Chesire's Hero's Journey to a wedding

Recommended Posts

I started the Darebee Hero's Journey because I needed someone to specifically tell me what to do and push more than I do on my own right now.  Going to keep running 2x week.  I have a 6K virtual race this month and would love to be able to finish in less than 40 min.  And continue working my way to a proper pull-up.  Also continuing with the daily dare

Need to track/plan food for a bit to relearn how to eat enough and well when I don't work.  Drink more water and watch alcohol.  The usual.

Maybe clean house?

But the really real thing this time is my brother is getting married 5/30.  They are able to do a small ceremony because the state allows for 10 people to gather close-ish (aka wedding party, officiant, and photographer) and another small group (parents and a few close friends I think) can physically distance to watch.  The reception will be next year as a "We Did" party.

I said I would make my own dress as Matron of Honor.  The pressure is real.  A. to get it made and fitted properly in mock-up. B. to work on really nice silk.  C. to learn to do my own make-up (I think I will need to do my own) C. Hope like hell we can still used a hairstylist.

Very cool, I did that Darebee program for a while and it was really nifty. I hope you enjoy it!

Best of luck with wedding stuff too, I'm in awe that you're making a dress!

200 jump squats sucked yesterday (but I cleared the bridge) and they still do today.  I had intended a run for today.... maybe not now, we'll see how dog walking goes first

Alcohol it tough right now.  I have turned too heavily to it in the past and some of those signs are showing again.  Between 4pm and 6pm is my tough time.  I will try to replace with mocktails of some kind most nights.

Did run.  Am regretting.

Hopefully *fingers and toes crossed* I will have a final mock-up of the dress done today.  At this point I've Frankenstein-ed 2 patterns (to reduce line-backer shoulder look) and sorted fudged in a 3rd for the skirt (mermaid skirts not good for my shape.)  And this all sounds like I know what I'm doing, when in reality I'm just taping things together and hoping.

Legs are still sore from 200 jump squats and running the next day.  Thankfully no leg work on the schedule until Monday and I won't go running on the weekends, the park is too busy to keep space.

extra stress that isn't mine but I get to share.  Yay!

Spoiler

MrC's work has been stressful because just before the USA acknowledged the madness he was in for a promotion he didn't want.  Now all promotions are on hold, but he still is kind of has 1/2 the responsibilities since his boss was shifting positions (hence Mr's promo) but is now in limbo too.  MrC hates not knowing what's happening and spins himself up into a continual cycle of demanding unavailable answers from the universe.  And thus I become the voice of calm and reason for him.  Or murder him.  I've chosen the former, far less paperwork.   Mostly he needs a hobby for distraction and focus but can't focus to find the distraction he wants.  Not my circus but I still get to care for the monkeys.

And I have an official goal for fitness.  I will do one full strict pull up by the end of this challenge.   I got my calisthenics band for assistance in the mail and I've chosen the pull-up bonus work on the Hero's Journey.  Plus I can add in a touch of the School of Calisthenics training I was doing two challenges previously.

I do zero week tracking and I was looking over changes since the first challenge of the year especially for left arm/shoulder as I had very minimal strength after years of an issue and PT.  Anyway...  the point is holy crap tracking is worth it!  My active scapular hang has gone from 5 seconds to 22 seconds and left single arm plank from barely able to get up in a knee plank to 23 seconds!  Shoulder ROM overhead is getting so much better too!

I think/hope my mock-up for my dress is done.  Have a "consult" with a friend tomorrow to determine if its time to cut silk.  eek

Things progress decently.  I have 10 days until the wedding.  That really means 7 days for working.  Fingers crossed I will be done this coming weekend.  Eek!

Besides that had a really good run yesterday.  My best time yet and longer than previous.  This is noteworthy because the night before we celebrated our anniversary with a delicious and not terribly healthy dinner and wine.  And I managed to limit my wine amount!  2 wins!

Dress is done!  with 72 hours to spare!  and matching mask.   I am so uncomfortable with this event because of the plague.  The ceremony itself is fine; I only need to step close to take a bouquet and pass a ring.  It's the celebration afterward.  It's still a small family group but I don't know how well other people have been distancing.  Fingers and toes crossed that the weather is nice enough that I can eat outside.  If it weren't my brother I would just ditch that part.

Great! How did it turn out? Are you happy with it?

Outside would really help to combat virus spread, so I hope for you too that the weather will be nice :).

How do you like the Hero's Journey workout plan so far? Are your legs recovered? I was considering doing that program as well, but I chickened out and went for foundations light. I first need to consistently fit exercise in my schedule again before going hard ;). Hero's Journey is on top of the list as a program to follow up with though.

I am so happy with it!  This is the first time I've been actually happy with clothing I've made.

It's pretty good. Keeping the story in mind as I've done some of the workouts has helped me push through a few of them.  I'm not a fan of combat/kick-boxing/taebo workouts because I always overextend and hurt myself, but if I imagine I am taking down an assassin....  that's fun!  and don't overextend.

I've also not forced myself to stick with a particular level, but did what either brain or body allowed for the day.

Legs have recovered and proved very able!  I signed up for a virtual 6K for the month of May.  I actually ran (almost- less than 10 sec walking 2x) the whole thing!  At a faster pace than I've done in years!

I meant to go look the foundations light plan after you posted that the other day.  Consistency sounds the best place to start for sure.

All kinds of good news then :D. I'm glad that the first piece of clothing that turned out great is a dress for such an important event :).

Running a 6k is impressive! Especially if it's at a faster pace then you did before :).

Wait, no.  Not revenge.

It happened!  They got married!  And now, what do I do?  I hadn't realized just how much this was filling my brain. Well, yes, but not really.  Ya know?

So I feel strangely light and my brain is delightfully empty.  I'm going to take a day and just enjoy that.

The state they had the wedding is in partial opening mode, with beaches open but I swear you are still supposed to be distancing and wearing masks. Hahahahah!  You wouldn't know it.  If I had to guess, I'd say less than half were wearing masks, and keeping space on the beach looked impossible.  We commandeered space on the large main entrance and walkway by virtue of her very outgoing friends simply telling people to move for a wedding, and kept it by virtue of tuxes and dresses.    (We had/could think of no where else to go to do it that wouldn't have been just as busy in some way.)   But it went well, and I am so glad it is done.  The stress of all the current mandates that we were teetering on the edge of breaking and worry that someone would be an ass about it was heavy.

LMK if you want pics.

I'm going to play in the garden and sun snooze with the doggly.

Whatever you'd like to post, go for it! :D  Mission accomplished. Maybe a challenge photo album is in order? ;) something to track your journeys ifffff that sounds like something that resonates with you. Congrats on the victory and have a great week!  :)

So, I realized asking you to ask me for pics was weird, but in my defense I always feel weird putting pics out there like "hey look at me!"

And as soon as I see any of them..... the challenge of a super small wedding is no one took cell phone pics!

This week is going really well.  I thought I might be bored with no work and no planning to do, but boy was I wrong.  Still don't have enough time in a day.  How the h*ck did I get anything done while working?  Le sigh* clean floors are lovely.

And so far my garden has given me a pound of spinach.  Our first veg CSA order just arrived.  Why we got 2 lbs or so of apples, I have no idea.  We don't eat many apples.  Time to get creative.  MrC found a recipe for potato, apple, and bacon salad that speaks to him, so that will take care of some of them.

Tonight is a zoom recipe challenge.  3 households are making the same dish from recipes we each found (Tacos al Pastor.)  We will do a pre-dinner cocktail call, sign off to eat (because eating on camera sounds like a nightmare to me), then sign back in to report our reviews.  Should be fun.
