That actually does make some sense to me.. when you consider virus spread there are two factors to consider, one is amount of people together at the same time, which is likely going to be a lot more in restaurants.. and then there is the amount of time spend together- in a restaurant you'll stay a lot longer, air circulation will make sure everyone breathes the same air and you're there long enough to breathe in an infectious amount... and unless you're going really fancy i think you wouldnt be at a hairdresser that long.

Let's say that a wash and haircut, with a blow dry, takes 30-45 minutes. During that time you sit in a chair that someone else was sitting in before you, probably touching arm rests that they touched. The hair stylist washes your hair, which requires you to sit in another public chair and lean your neck against the same sink as every other client. Both wash and cut requires another person's hands to touch you while they stand close enough to you that you can smell their breath. A lot of hair salons also have the stations less than six feet apart, so you're also failing to social distance in that respect as well. Don't even get me started on the manicure station or the wax room...

I used to work in one, and I know for a fact it is be impossible to maintain proper social distancing at least in that particular hair salon. A lot of them have a similar layout, because they all try for the most effective use of floor space. I do not consider them a low-risk location at all.

Though my main point was that either open both, or keep both closed. Letting one of them open but not the other, makes it seem completely random, and that's not going to convince a lot of people to follow the rules.

I had a lot of trouble falling asleep last night, it was after 02:00, not nice. My heart rate was high, so all stress related. Just thinking about all the things to arrange and about all the frustrations around how people and governments both local and around the world are handling the Uncertainty.

Despite the (extra) lack of sleep we had a nice day. One of our friends kids had her birthday, so we made this scavenger hunt for her which led her back to her own house and while they were outside we used the key we have to decorate a bit and leave cake + a present. It was nice to do and well received, win win. Later Emma and I went to the gym (while Jaap read a book and let Sophie sleep on his chest, she naps best that way) and we had a really good time. I wasn't feeling it at all, but we put on music and had a dance party (forever grateful to Mad Hatter who gave me this idea years ago to kick start a blah training session). In between the first sets we danced some more, later sets were spend gathering pretend camping gear and pretend sleeping and more things like that :)

I had been craving sushi ever since seeing Raptron's picture on insta, and then Jaap said shall we nope out of cooking and get some fries.. and then Emma said, "no lets get that fish with rice stuff" so i didnt even have to bring it up and i still got sushi! Not as nice as Raptron's i'm sure.. but i still think it's really cool that my 3 year old likes sushi. In bed we always talk about our day a little bit and she asked if we could eat sushi every day.. which led to me explaining the concept of money x)

A good day.

Lifts;

- hand elevated pushups 5x5

- ring rows 4x5

- backsquats 2x5 @25kg, 3x4 @35kg (felt much better than last time)

- step ups, 3x5/5 with passive hangs in between

- hip drive 3x10 with active hang pulls in between

- deadlifts 5x3 @65kg, felt fine, last set a bit hard to keep upper back properly engaged

- and i did my essential mobility work (ankles and upper back/shoulders) and it's quickly coming back so i am pleased

the end.

This sounds like SUCH a nice day! Yay! I'm glad for you. Also jealous of your sushi. It's my goal for my kid to keep eating everything, too. She's been really into curry since the first time she tried it at about 8 months and she eats it spicy, too. I've exposed her to all sorts of ethnic food. Not sushi yet, though, because it's too expensive to get thrown on the floor. 😂

huh i had no idea hair appointments could take that long :D

I thought the hair salons here are supposed to occupy every other chair or something like that.. but yea.. it's not in any way or form a safe location either, regardless of wether they're slightly more safe than restaurants, i suppose.

Maybe you just have exceptionally nice hair, naturally? 😋

Honestly, it's color stripping (when necessary), dyeing, toning, re-toning, etc..... that takes a century. My wife used to get rainbow hair - like 4-6 different colors in a go - and her appointments would frequently be 5+ hours.

Ahhhhhhhhhh see, I love spicy food, and starlet eats what I eat most of the time, so she's been exposed to it from the start. I don't make it really fiery, but I do make it with a noticeable kick and she's very into it.

Ehm well.. let's just say that all the genes that make you want to be pretty went to my sister (she's a beauty specialist (?) yea i dont even know the english words for these things)

I've never dyed my hair x) or let someone do that for me, hehe... ok I usually go to the hairdresser maybe every other year? i am obviously not an expert.

Have i mentioned that Emma wants to be a cook when she grows up? first she said mother, so then i obviously explained that you can be a mother and also.. you know.. more. Now she wants to be a mother and a cook.

well yes that's the other thing.. and people think i'm silly for not bringing Emma to daycare right now. It actually breaks my heart a little to think of trying to force all the kids to social distance.

I have this very strong desire to look nice for myself (distinction from when it used to be to please other people) and my hair is the thing about which I am particularly self-conscious, so I am constantly trying to do something to make myself feel better about it. Hair is very involved if you let it be. I should be more like you, definitely.

This is awesome. Have you ever seen any clips from the show Masterchef Junior? It's a US show but maybe you've seen some? It's so wholesome and adorable. I am now imagining Emma as one of those kids in a couple years.

Yea i sometimes try to remember that first impressions etc are a thing so i try to look somewhat presentable.. but for myself? nah. i dunno.. i'm just odd? i can still count on my fingers how often i've worn make up.

I do often really wish i looked more like an athlete, just to feel more like one you know? and also it might be good for business.

There is an australian version and even a dutch version :) the dutch one sucks, but australians make the best reality tv.

I adore the show. We have actually been watching it every week during our "movie night". We started movie night during quarantaine, it's also an actual movie/tv night, it's just that Emma also uses the english words for it, which is cute. And we watch it in english. We watched it during sushi actually :D and then she's constantly asking what words mean, like "guys" "proud" etc.

My thought was that it's not enough micro managing, but we probably agree and it's a word thing... these rules come from high up, so they should be sort of guidelines.. and then the local government can use their judgement and look at individual cases and adjust (micro manage?) where necessary. For example the statement from high up is that on july first restaurants can have 30 people in their buildings.. which as a blanket statement makes no sense- not all restaurants are the same size.. so they should say something like "half the usual spots with a hard cap of x per square foot" or something like that.. and then local government can do checkups and help people figure things out.

Yes, it is a word thing. I think it comes from trying to just lay out laws, and not look at individual situations. Local government control is better, and even better than that is trusting the businesses to have sense enough to figure it out without all sorts of mandates

Aesthetician?

I've been doing full makeup every day since quarantining because I never did it for anyone but myself, and I like it. It's not about wanting to look "pretty" it's more about wanting to be perceived a certain way. A form of self-expression.

Same with coloring my hair, so I am currently working on coming to terms with the fact my roots are not at all the color of the rest of my hair, and it irritates me. It looks... poorly planned. Disorganized. It bothers me. I'm debating if I should try to touch up the roots myself or just leave it be. But it's not urgent, because it only bothers me when i see it in a mirror.

Yeah mine takes at least an hour to wash, cut and dry. Probably double if I wanted it coloured or, IDK, styled or something. I don't go to hairdressers any more, though. I'm sick of them ripping combs through it with brute force. Also sick of paying so much when I can just trim it at home. And also, I don't dye it any more because I figured you can have it long and healthy, OR long and coloured.

One of the reasons my hair appointments used to cost a fortune is that I refuse to compromise and choose between the two. ;)

I just learned that the salon where I worked and where my current hair stylist works, is filing for bankruptcy, so that sucks.

Me neither! While I'm going slightly more often than you (1-2 times per year), it's always less than half an hour for cutting and drying. Maybe it's because I visit budget hair-salons? I've been in November, so no hurries for me, but many men are really glad that they can get a haircut again! I think they're now working with 1 hour time-slots per person including disinfecting, and you may not enter the building before your time-slot.

yes I was never going to accomplish not making that sound offensive somehow. I first typed “all the girly genes” and then quickly erased that for obvious reason. I get that it’s not just about wanting to look pretty :) Not that my opinion even matters, but I think it’s really cool when people have a certain style or have the skill and put in the time to do nice hair.. or when they are capable of dressing nice.
If those skills could come magically I’d take em, but since they don’t, I’ll happily do without.

Saturday we did the second session on managing stress. I think it went well. I also had two 1on1 appointments for nutrition coaching. In the afternoon we went for a bike ride because I wanted to get some movement in. I also had a very pleasant time tucking Emma into bed. Nice chats and lots of cuddling.

690B43EB-F8E1-401B-83F6-5E8EA9BBFEB2.thumb.jpeg.c3ff44c69b4d24712960894f8ba58ed7.jpeg181C4BB6-CCDE-4662-A390-0500BD58F190.thumb.jpeg.816a4b4a9284adccea30521a5e692efc.jpeg

you probably shouldn’t do this with a baby in another country?

Sunday I first did an online kettlebell class and then did my first outdoor kb class. It was very nice to see everyone even if it was hard because we couldn’t hug etc. Since we had grass we practiced some KB juggling which was nice. I joined in on part of the training, I did several sets of 5/5 swing snatch and then a set of 30/30 snatches with the 12kg and finished with a 10/10 set with the 14. It’s nice to hold something other than the 10kg for a change.
In the afternoon my baby sister came for a cup of tea in the garden at a distance. I hadn’t seen her in 9 weeks. She hadn’t seen me not pregnant yet. It was nice to see her and also difficult.

Then Emma and I went for a bike ride and made stops at several playgrounds (I dunno how it is elsewhere but my town has a playground basically every other street).

Small confession; I’ve almost doubled my already ridiculous amount of sugar in tea and I’ve been eating a ridiculous amount of cookies and other sweet things 😅

but whatever. One thing at a time yes. I’m happy the movement goal is going well.
