I don’t want him to get into his head that he can grab my phone or tablet and play/watch/etc. media anywhere. There will be a time when that changes, but I’m just trying to put in any boundaries that I can XD I totally understand and also appreciate your understanding my way. Our kids range from about his age to almost 7 so the dynamic is a little different. Our TVs are in our finished basement and our kitchen. Our main living room has books and games and we have a projector and homemade screen that we occasionally set up in one of our TV free rooms or once in a great while our bedroom for special movie-theatre style occasions. Their bedrooms are for reading and resting. In our other house, the only places able to take a TV were the main rooms, the basement, and the bedrooms. I’m glad to not have a TV in those rooms anymore. Almost all of our kids’ tablet time is school related, and the school tablets went back last week. Also thankfully. So now it’s the laptops (mine, which hosts their private Minecraft server, is passworded so that let’s me be the gatekeeper there) or the TVs with consoles. Which I can currently switch to some random input and prevent them from playing. My ears perked at Mr’s line of work. 1 Quote Adventurer, Half-Dwarf Chaotic-Good Paladin Ne me dites jamais les chances! ¡Nunca me digas las probabilidades! Ann of Owlshire
Various and sundry nearly end of challenge updates: Enting goes between going to bed at 6 and going to bed at 10, but we’ve learned how to spot which are which and plan accordingly. It can still be exhausting, but hey, it is what it is. He is also back at nursery 3 mornings a week which I expect I’ll eventually feel some relief from. We sort of dealt with screen time concerns for now: we went off cold turkey for a few difficult days, and now he’s allowed to watch My Neighbour Totoro. He can watch it as much as he likes, outside of “no TV” windows (the TV gets turned off at 5PM each evening once Mr is off work, and I try wait until a couple of hours after wake-up before the first screening). The result is that while we run it probably 3x a day, he’s not as invested in being glued to the screen and only really watches a couple of hours a day which I can live with. Also, I love this movie. The house is on the market as of 10 days ago. We’ve only had one viewing scheduled, which then got postponed to next week. Current guidelines are that only people in a position to buy (have offers on their places, already sold, have cash, fully approved for a loan, etc.) are encouraged to do viewings, so I’m trying not to worry too much about the slow start. (You may recall we did some viewings a few weeks ago, despite our house not being on the market. At that point, the new guidelines were fuzzy, so we were invited to some places we had Registered Interest on during the tighter bits of Lockdown. Now that the rules are clearer, we’re stonewalled until we get an offer on our house.) I’m trying to keep it in a state that it can quickly be tidied up for viewings. Trying. Walk to Mordor - I started at Bag End, and should get to Bree by tonight, if not early tomorrow. That’s 135 or so miles. I’ve been tracking all steps/mileage done during the day. But my going out for more walks has been helped by Rowan suddenly wanting to be carried a lot, which may not last. He also likes to fall asleep up there >_>; I thought I might take next challenge off, but actually I have an idea and a theme and so the road goes ever on.... 4 Quote Sometimes you have to wander to find your way home… 🇺🇸 Adventurer 🇬🇧 🌳🦉🌳 Epic Quest: Tales of Owlshire Link to comment
Snarkyfishguts
Keeping tidy for viewings with a toddler is a huge accomplishment! i wasnt allowed to watch a lot of tv either as a kid except for raggedy ann and andy’s musical adventure. I woke up at 5:30am and my parents put that in and went back to bed. When it was over some days they’s let me watch it twice and sleep in 😂😂 You are making excellent progress on the walking miles! You are kicking butt! Dont let the scouts get wind, they’ll try to recruit you! 😂😉 1 Quote Link to comment

Of my many childhood-originated failings, I don’t even think that was on the top 5 But I didn’t have a tablet or a phone or computer and video games came later, and... yeah. I don’t know. It’s just one of my bugbears, I guess. (As usual, Other Parents of NF, my Parental Ticks are not judgement on how you are raising your children.) I’m surprised by how many miles I did this challenge! It wasn’t even intentional mileage, just trying to get a record baseline in place. 1 Quote Sometimes you have to wander to find your way home… 🇺🇸 Adventurer 🇬🇧 🌳🦉🌳 Epic Quest: Tales of Owlshire Link to comment
