dancezwithkittehz is an overbooker

Goals in progress as I might come up with better ideas before challenge start buuut yeah! I'm going to stick with some of the basics from last round that are working from me but I plan to add things to try and keep myself sane as I am somehow managing to overbook in spite of not being able to go anywhere. I need to figure out how to find balance and not get burnt out! I'm not quite sure how to make goals about doing LESS haha.

GOAL 1 - Track calories, eat a damn veggie: Track calories every day with a goal of 2k-ish cal overall, ideally 100g of that from protein but I am happy if I am hitting at least 60+. Make sure at least one thing I eat is a vegetable or fruit.

Goal 2 - Downtime required!  - I must have an evening of down time (or a 5+ hour block of down time for a weekend day) two days a week minimum. I will also do daily check ins on current stress level so I can take an extra day if I am feeling overbooked!

Goal 3 - Home/Self Improvement - Work a little bit on all the house projects I have planned. Aiming to do at least 30 min a day but at least 3 days per week is OK.

Current projects: 1- I'm trying to finally make my wardrobe reasonable so I can actually FIND things. I have so much clothes SO MUCH. Partially from never wanting to get rid of things in case I need them for a dance costume later and uh, considering I have trouble finding anything now that is NOT WORKING. I'm never going to be minimalist because clothes are a big hobby for me but I am aiming towards keeping only my favorite things that I actually USE and that fit (too many "this might fit eventually. No. No it probably won't. Considering I have lost a lot of fluff and the things that didn't fit still don't fit because my bust and widest spot on hips do not go down that much.) 2-  paint my room (I bought paint and supplies at Sherwin WIlliams with curbside pick up). 3- After painting rehang curtain bar thing and replace my sad shredded curtain (bad kitties!) with new blackout curtains.

Goal 4- Knee rehab- Do loop band exercises every day for muscle activation to keep my knee from doing whatever it was doing to make it mad during squats. Banded walks, and banded leg extension back and side in both parallel and turned out position (whatever they call those anyway. I call them tendus with a band on my leg because that's basically what they are buuut dancer so yeah.)

Goal 2 - Don't overbook  - I have no idea what this is going to look like, Thinking about it! Last challenge I got to where I have plans almost every night and that's too much for me! I think first obvious spot I can do is cut back on dance days so it's not using 4 nights a week. Leave time for downtime? I dunno. THINKING!

Maybe schedule some self-care time, in whatever form that means for you? Like if you "schedule" an evening for reading, but you really end up taking a bath and watching a movie, nbd.

I don't think I've ever NOT overthought everything. Hahahaha.

But yes CLOTHES PURGE!!!!! I want to be able to fit everything in my closet AND be able to actually get items out of the closet without knocking everything off their hangers because everything is too smooshed. Also trying to figure out how the hell to organize deep drawers to actually be useful. UGH.

Could work maybe. My issue is I'll decide to say YES to dance class on the internet night with my friends yay! But now they want to do 4 nights instead of just 2 and I am thinking "but I like dancing with my friends", but also between that and other social things I have scheduled (zoom happy hours and D and D, etc) I am like TOO MANY THINGS AAAAAH.  I guess there is such a thing as too much of a good thing!

I think I need to figure out my threshold for NOPE too much, but I think that also varies from day to day.  I was good and decided to skip dance this Monday because I knew I needed down time so I am capable of pulling back but I need to figure out how to not overbook in the first place. I feel like this is an ongoing struggle for me in the past 5 year or so particularly, wanting to DO ALL THE THINGS but not knowing how to do that without hitting a wall of HAHA NO YOU ARE DONE GO VEG NOW.

I think I may make GOAL 4 be a goal to use my left hand to mouse a certain percentage of each day so the tendinitis in my right arm from using a normal mouse the first 2 months of work from home goes away. Ugh. Trying to decide how to track that. Or maybe hide my normal mouse from myself for certain part of the day? Some things are HARD to do with trackpad though so I want to have the mouse there if I need it. Hmm.

Also, my dumb ass FORGOT to grab my roller mouse on Monday when I had to actually go in to the office. I don't foresee needing to go up there again for a while and I don't really want to make a 2 hour round trip just to grab my mouse...but also thinking about it because that thing is awesome and I am way more used to it than using the laptop trackpad. I would think about buying one for using at home to save the drive IF they were cheap, but I'm not dropping $250 on a mouse. After we go back to the office someday I won't need one for home since they would be shit for use for gaming which is pretty much the only thing I do at home normally.

Next on things to do is figure out a plan to actually get painting done. I was super stoked on this last week before the grand overbooking at the end of last week. Haha. Definitely seriously considering painting just a small part of a few walls for starters to cover what you see on the wall behind me on video chats. I may get a weird line between the sections I paint that way but I think I have decided I give few fucks about that. I will take one or two weird sections that don't mesh perfectly over DARK RED WALLS EVEYRWHEREEEE. (Dear 20 something self, WHY?! It's soooo dark! Actually dark and cave like was totally my jam and I also kept foil on my window to block out all sun at that point sooo yeah.... Goth kid problems.)

I managed to scrubby scrubby most of the walls without having to get out a ladder! SUCCESS. Of course still trying to figure out how the hell I am going to tape off and paint the apex of the vaulted ceiling. I did it before. Or someone did it. I can't remember if our ladder is tall enough to get my short ass up to a super high ceiling. I may have made a boyfriend do it back when we painted this the first time. If all else fails I will make my brother do it since he is somehow a giant.

Also looking forward to climbing on top of all my built in shelving to clean and paint up there. That I know I can do except I actually use that for storage now rather than as a weird high perch to hang out on....(yes. yes I have put a mattress up there and slept at some point in my teen years. Lol)

Fwiw, my first computer job was 10-key data entry. Rather than overload my right hand with 10-key and mousing, I just started using my left hand for mouse. There are a couple computer games that it makes more difficult, but I have had no problems since about day 2 of that first job (like 14 years ago). Best part - if you reverse the mouse buttons (easily done under mouse settings in both windows and mac), people won't try to mess with your computer because the mouse confuses the heck out of them.

I'm pretty OK at using my roller mouse with either hands but traditional mouse I don't love with my left hand and also, that would just give me tendinitis in both arms (That's how I ended up with the roller bar mouse in the first place. Paid for by my work ergonomic funds luckily!)  Roller bar mouse (or I am finding trackpad also) keeps arms in a more ergonomic position so I am not fatiguing either my elbow or wrist (or both, definitely have done both before.)

The problem isn't that I can't say no to them. I'm really good at that luckily haha. It's that I want to hang out with them and dance so I say yes every time, but if I do it that many nights it gets me into burnout mode haha.

I am thinking I will do a "must have an evening of down time (or a 5+ hour block of down time for a weekend day) two days a week minimum" or something along those lines,

Debated starting painting today but can't decide if doing a coat of paint and then hanging out in the room after that while it dries would be a bad thing... Considering maybe moving painting to weekend when I don't need to be in my "office" corner in my room.

I also think I should give the walls another scrub with actual cleaning products of some sort (I scrubbed with water for starter and to remove any dust/ cobwebs etc.) I'm not going to do a TSP cleaning because that sounds like I definitely would need to be able to give the room a thorough airing out without being in it. Another DIY article says dilute laundry soap with water and scrub down walls with that so I might go that route, or at least do that to the lower parts of the wall that actually come in contact with hands sometimes.

In other news I have figured out even lazier ways to make quick pickles and I has the happy. Thin sliced cucumber + splash of sesame oil + ...I dunno a tsp? ish of salt ( a handful of salt that fills the center of my palm but not the whole hand because I love salt but jesus christ I should not do an actual handfull but HEYYY now I kind of want to try making insanely salty pickles, OK this note is getting a little excessive) + enough rice vinegar to cover everything and toss and let sit for 10-15 min/ however long it takes me to cook whatever I am eating for my main meal = yum!  I also usually throw on some shichimi togarashi because YAY SPICE. I used to do a similar base recipe but actually bring the water/ vinegar/ salt solution to a boil and then throw the cucumbers in for longer and let it cool and stuff. I think that's probably still a good idea for if I want to throw them in a jar and let them last a little longer, but if I want to make a small batch for my impatient self to eat NOWWW NOWW NOWW then lazy method is great. (I really want to do a class on actual canning someday so I can make non quick pickles but I am enough of a quick pickle whore to not be in a rush 😂 )

Oh wow, I did not know you could do this.  I have been struggling to get anywhere with Elder Scrolls 1 because the setup is best for me with left hand mouse and right hand direction pad and trying to figure out the backwards buttons on a right handed mouse was driving me insane.  I may need to go back and revisit :D

I have long maintained that BURPEES ARE THE WORST. But, uh, I think I was able to fix whatever weird shit I was doing with my squats this past week that was hurting my right knee by doing a burpee and my body just knowing where the hell it needs to go to lower into a low squat (why suddenly I couldn't do that while goblet squatting I don't know but hey I'll take it. Lol.)

In challenge updatey things --  still trying to finalize goals. Must figure out by Sunday. AAAAAH.

Noooooooo. I guess unless it turns out I need to do those to try and rehab my knee but I HOPE NOT. Haha.

I also realized it felt better after doing some dance warm ups with my friend so I think the key here is maybe I need to warm up with things super programmed into muscle memory to have correct form?  I still don't get why KB squats/ squats are ALSO not already in that category but whatever.

I took a few days away from attempting squats over the weekend and did two dance nights and my knee feels much better after some rest from doing whatever stupid thing I was doing to make it mad in squats.  I also found my exercise band loops which are actually super useful for leg muscle activation stuff (still can't remember what I did with the "medium" one that I kept at work and then brought home when we moved to WFH but I know where the heavy/x-heavy ones are so those will work.) I guess maybe at this point in my old age warm ups are IMPORTANT or something.

OOOOH. Maybe banded workout stuff to make my knee not dumb should be a goal thing for this round! Since I still can't think of specific measurable goals for trying to use my mouse less.

Challenge Update Week 1, Day 1 (Sunday)

Goal 1 - Track Calories? ✔️Yes
Ate a veggie/fruit?✔️ Yes

Goal 2 - Downtime?✔️ Yes. Did 1 out of 2 required downtime days per week

Goal 3 - Home/Self Improvement - 0 out of 3 days minimum per week so far. I mean. I taped my wall a little bit to prep for paint but not enough that I will count it

Goal 4 - Knee Rehab -  0 out of 7 days so far. I did not do this on Sunday, BUT I did decide on this on day 2 of challenge (Monday) and I don't have time travel powers (sad)

In totally un-challenge related news. I had a pretty lazy day yesterday BUT I beat the first Halo (yay! Alsoooo so stoked that the Halo 2 port to PC is supposed to launch tomorrow supposedly!) Also I suck at driving the warthog and definitely had to try the final part a few times to get all the jumps and not die. Lol.

I also was in super domestic mode to make my mom stuff for mothers day. I made a super basic whole roasted chicken (and it actually was delicious and I normally hate chicken), made a sauce for it kind of based on poulet a la moutarde I've made before except I couldn't get all the fond from the chicken since I had to cook the sauce separate on stove top and then scraped what I could from the roast pan to finish up the last few minutes of the sauce reduction. I also made some bread because it FINALLY WASN'T HOT and in the process realized how much I need to get a kitchen scale for accurate baking measurements (ordered!)

Also, am I the only one who struggles to know if I should count onions as a vegetable? Like. They are? But I consider them to be like, flavoring that happens to have more substance? Because assuming we are counting onions as a vegetable then yes I had vegetables yesterday. (I mean. I also ate some green olives because YUMM SALTY VINEGAR DELICIOUSNESSSS but I also barely consider those a vegetable/fruit. )

Oooh, good question.  I usually consider it a vegetable when it fills the role usually taken by a vegetable (I use it for the primary vegetable when stir frying lamb, for example) but I don't count it as one when it is more for flavor (like in a meatloaf)

Oooh, good question.  I usually consider it a vegetable when it fills the role usually taken by a vegetable (I use it for the primary vegetable when stir frying lamb, for example) but I don't count it as one when it is more for flavor (like in a meatloaf)

I'd say that's probably a good scale to go by. Consider what your goal of "eating vegetables" is. Low-calorie bulk? Nutritional content? Taste? The answer will vary depending on your goal, but I think WhiteGhost hit it pretty well.

It was technically part of a sauce for this one as "flavor", but it was also a whole 12" pan's worth of sauteed onion so probably kind of both in this case? I also consider onion as a thing I am using for flavor but I also usually am using similar amounts of LOTS haha.

I mean. My goal for veggies is because veggies = fiber and nutritional content and stuff I am not getting from elsewhere but I also think they are tasty. I always count onion as a flavoring even when I am using a hoard of it (I should probably look up the nutritional info on an onion because I have no clue. Haha.) Cooked onions are SOOO GOOD. (I fucking hate raw onion though. BLEGH. Do not want. I can handle it in a salsa or guacamole as long as it's cut tiny and people don't go nuts, but a slice on a burger is EWWWWWWW.)

Challenge Update Week 1, Day 2 (Monday)

Goal 1 - Track Calories? ✔️Yes
Ate a veggie/fruit?✔️ Yes

Goal 2 - Downtime?  1 out of 2 required downtime days per week

Goal 3 - Home/Self Improvement - 0 out of 3 days minimum per week so far.

Goal 4 - Knee Rehab -✔️  1 out of 7 days so far.

I think I need to switch down to the red "heavy" band for my knee rehab stuff because I can't do as many reps as I'd like with the black band without burning out.

Some weird un-challenge related quarantine thoughts:

1. I realize I am singing way less than I do when I am working at the office and that's kind of a bummer. I realize that my car is my singing place and I'm not driving much these days. I realized this when I actually had to go into the office to do something last week. I like singing in the car since it's a private-ish place so I can fuck up and not care if people hear. (While I give zero Fs about people seeing me mess up dance and stuff I don't like practicing singing where people can hear me.)

(Related: I just got gas for the first time in 2 months. TWO MONTHS. Normally it's 1.5-2 fill ups per week. So crazy.)

2. Being stuck at home has been real motivation to actually put energy towards making my bedroom space into something I actually want to spend time in vs just somewhere to sleep in and store my stuff. I normally commute for work and I have tons of evening and weekend things out of the house, and when I am home I'm usually dorking around hanging out with my family in the shared spaces (co own a house with my bro and my mom also lives with us). I used to hang out in here alllllll the time back in high school/college and I can't remember when exactly I got out of the habit, but it is nice to have my own space that I actually like to be in!

3. I am definitely at the thinnest I have been in YEARS which is kind of weird considering it would be really easy to do the opposite of that. (Well. Not thin exactly. I weigh similar but I have significantly less fat but also way more muscle.) I've noticed in the last week more visible slimming of my overall torso though still NOT my stomach as much as I'd like GRRRRR but that's always my last to go. It's also extra weird considering I am definitely drinking a lot more than I was last year when I did a serious actual cut for once --which SUUUUUUCKED. I never want to do a big cut like that again if I can avoid it. Yes. It worked, but also my lifts and my mood were horrible for like 6 months while I did it. I'm going to aim to try and keep with a generally moderate and maintenance-y diet at all times which has been working for me and I continue to get sloooooooooowly smaller (and I CAN have been as long as I am smart about it and actually track calories.)
