Latrop's Life Long Health - Chapter 2

Life long health is my goal. I'm talking, running a 5K at 80 years old. I know it's possible. I've seen people do it. It's awesome

 

I got pretty busy right before the start of the last 5 week challenge and decided to take it off. I was still going to exercise and sustain all my previous work, just not set any new goals. Then lands COVID and my schedule was thrown into disarray. So now I'm starting up again with some new goals!

 

Goal 1 - Heart Health: Run 1 mile twice per week

 

Goal 2 - Muscle Health: Complete 13 NerdFitness workouts over the 5 weeks

 

Goal 3 - Spine Health: Complete 3 alignment workouts per week

 

Goal 4 - Mental Health: Meditate 5 minutes a day, everyday

 

Woot! Let's go!

I like your littler goals and your life long goal. My life long goal is to be hiking mountains and pressing kettlebells when I'm 80

I want to be one of those awesome 80's too!  For me that's 5Ks and pull-ups (can't do a pull-up... yet.) 

 

I'm liking your straightforward, clear plan.

Week 1 Update:

 

Overview: hit them all!

 

Goal 1 - Heart Health: Run 1 mile twice per week

  • So long term goal here is to be able to run a mile in <=10 min with my heart rate <=75% of max. Why? Because I want to keep my heart healthy and I thought that seemed a reasonable goal. And this week, I was close! I ran 10:45 min/mile with my heart rate <=75% of max. I think I'm going to keep going for chill runs, because it seemed to work. it's much more enjoyable that way anyway

Goal 2 - Muscle Health: Complete 13 NerdFitness workouts over the 5 weeks

  • 3 down, 10 to go!

Goal 3 - Spine Health: Complete 3 alignment workouts per week

  • Got em!

Goal 4 - Mental Health: Meditate 5 minutes a day, everyday

  • Done, but it definitely involved a very grumpy start to the meditation on Saturday night. Something along the lines of "why do I set these ridiculous goals. I should just go to sleep" lol

 

1 week down, a lifetime to go!

Week 2 Update:

 

Overview: another successful week

 

Goal 1 - Heart Health: Run 1 mile twice per week

  • Done and done. Wasn't quite as good on time as last week but I didn't hate the run either so I'd call that a success!

Goal 2 - Muscle Health: Complete 13 NerdFitness workouts over the 5 weeks

  • 6 down, 7 to go!

Goal 3 - Spine Health: Complete 3 alignment workouts per week

  • Done and feeling the impact between chiropractor visits

Goal 4 - Mental Health: Meditate 5 minutes a day, everyday

  • Continuing on. I've found if I'm grumpy about meditating that lying down during it helps. I hate sitting so when I'm lying down there are less things to be grumpy about

Outlook: got a bit of a late start to this week due to the holiday and not being home, but I'm confident I can get it done!

Week 3 Update:

 

Overview: on track

 

Goal 1 - Heart Health: Run 1 mile twice per week

  • Done and done. Running is getting so much harder as it gets hot out...

Goal 2 - Muscle Health: Complete 13 NerdFitness workouts over the 5 weeks

  • Only did 2 workouts last week, but I'm allowed 2/5 weeks of 2 workouts so still on track!

Goal 3 - Spine Health: Complete 3 alignment workouts per week

  • Done 

Goal 4 - Mental Health: Meditate 5 minutes a day, everyday

  • Continuing on. I set the goal so I'll stick to it, but probably will find a different mental health activity after these 5 weeks

Outlook: everything is looking good going into next week!

Success! 

 

I know I missed reporting a week, but I didn't miss doing things. All perfect scores!

 

Definitely seeing improvements as well. I just tried the boss battle at the end of level 5 and, while I couldn't beat the boss, I found I could do the first half of a chin up unassisted! Now on to that second half.

 

Also, a key learning from this challenge is that meditation is not for me. Definitely going to swap that out next month.
