I agree with Starpuck, reading your challenges is like reading Harry Potter and imagining you are at Hogwarts.

I live on the 3rd floor and my wifi has trouble reaching my porch. I think the yard may be a tad out of range, hehe. I may put up some money to make my phone hotspot-enabled and try that out though. The yard gets a lot more sun than our porch so it would be nice to work down there and maybe I could get the connection okay enough to stream these workout classes. 😄

I am not techy at all, so no idea how they work / if they're applicable, but I think they make wifi network extenders / boosters of various types that miiiiight help your sitch (again, zero idea how they work, but throwing that out there if hotspotting and paying for data's looking pretty expensive and you're hunting for a budget option).

In other news, today starts a week totally off work for me, and I'm really excited to channel my inner you and play with a buncha baking recipes (including those biscuits you did a while ago!).

Day 10.5

Friday was gorgeous. My work day was pretty brief because it was the day before a holiday weekend and folks mostly stopped working around 1. I was interviewing someone that afternoon, so I worked until about 2:30 pm, then did a leg workout, showered, and read outside until QP got off work and picked me up. The leg workout is below

  • 5 jump squats
  • 10 squats
  • 15 reverse lunges
  • 20 calf raises
  • 25 SL glute bridges
  • 30s wall sit
  • Repeat 5-7x (I think I did 6?)

🦵Workout above

💪Chin-ups: 6, 6, 5, 5, 4

🙃30 minutes of straddle press practice and pike press drills (with lots of breaks, of course)

🌳Lots of outside time in the beautiful weather including enjoying beers and lawn games w/ QP & his two housemates

📚Read in the sun after the burning time

♨️Grilled burgers and asparagus dinner

Day 10.6

Saturday was very relaxed. It felt like 3 separate days, probably because of all the napping, haha. I didn't sleep super well and we got up really early, so one was like a mid-morning nap and then the other was after my long walks around the neighborhood. The temperature dropped about 20-25 degrees while I was out, so it was nice to wrap in my comforter and take a deep nap when I got home. My CSA box had all of the fixings for stir fries, so I made a big one with tofu, local mixed mushrooms, asparagus, carrots, green beans, scallions and rice noodles. I spent longer cooking than I anticipated but I also wound up making a ton of food.

💤 Took 2 naps

⛏️Played Terraria with friends

😅Zoom core and shoulder workout

🚶‍♀️Long walk x2

🥗Picked up a CSA box of local veggies and other food goods

🍪Baked dried cherry and chocolate chunk cookies in the morning

Day 10.7

My long run went well until mile 7 or so when my knee started hurting again -- similar to the way it was hurting when I first trialed the new shoes. I was not wearing those shoes though, so I guess it isn't JUST footwear dependent. The fact that it starts hurting so late in my runs makes me think it could be fatigue related. I'm going to look into finding an online stride consultant/running coach or someone to help give me some pointers.

🏃‍♀️Jogged 9.2 miles

🚶‍♀️Recovery walk

🐚Picnicked in the park with my two besties, which included fresh shucked oysters

🥧Made rhubarb crumble pie bars

💻Zoom date for a late night

Jogging 4/4

Pulls 2/3

Handstand 5/5

Flexibility 2/2

Leg: 1/2

Short on a leg workout and a pull workout, but got in all my running and did dedicate more time to handstands this week.

I'll be interested to know what you find out about the knee, as I have a similar problem but from walking> I don't dare try running.

I have a friend who is a physical therapist who focuses on runners. If you would like information, let me know.

I doubt they look like crap, haha! I am just going ALL in on the new-ish emoji support, haha.

Ohhh, that could be good. I was just thinking about maybe trying to reach out to one of my physical therapists locally but no one I've worked with in the past is specifically runner focused. Send me their info!

I'm just so far from the yard being on the 3rd floor. But I am buying a new modem/router to support the faster internet plan I'm getting us since one of my roommates is moving out and we now qualify for "new user" deals. ;)

WFH Day 11.1

Memorial day in the US meant it was a day off for me and many. I triedd to do some errands but they were fruitless but I did get a couple of very nice long walks in, ranging the city. I pinged GC for some beers finally. We drank in a park overlooking the train tracks, which is 100% meant to be drank in, then swung around and continued drinking in my backyard. No dinner was had and I went to bed very early, haha.

🚶‍♀️2 very long walks

💪Chin-ups: 7, 5, 6, 5

🙃Outdoor handstand practice

🍻Cheers for beers

Day 11.2

My knee still felt a bit funky and my new shoes had not yet arrived so I didn't go for a run. I also was just in a bit of a MOOD all day. I did get in some forest bathing after work, which was really nice but as soon as I was back inside it was all LISTLESS and ENNUI again. I took a nap and eventually replied to pings from my buddies to come online and play. It was unsurprisingly much better than moping around. 😝

🚶‍♀️Short-ish walk

🌳Tromping around in the woods with one of besties who just got a car

💤Naptime

⚒️Terraria with the bois

Day 11.3

I took Wednesday off for a beach day with my bff. We drove down to the Cape but they had a localized pressure system that drove their temperature down 15 degrees from the rest of the coast and covered the skies with gloom, so we relocated to a different beach and hung out for the next 4-5 hours. The water was frigid, but I still went in a few times to cool off. I was worried about getting burned with this many hours in the sun and kept reapplying sunscreen and pulled out my cover-up eventually. I made it out mostly okay, but my chest got a bit burned in the end. Dang you, chest.

We got emails on Tuesday saying that my lifting gym was making preparations to open for outdoor training sessions because that type of activity got moved to phase 1 of the MA reopening plan! SOOOO after the beach, I changed and hustled over to the gym. There are a few days they're planning on having outdoor training available and moving a few racks and benches out to the lot. You get your own station that is pretty far away from other folks, wipe down all of your equipment, mask up as needed, etc. The only time you'd be near someone is if you need a spot/are spotting. It felt like a pretty safe approach to getting a workout in for me. And I was ELATED to be lifting again. Fully giddy.

I did a few sets of the big three. All of them were challenging as hell, lol. It has been like 2.5 months since I last lifted so, I was not surprised. The big goal was not to overdo it TOO MUCH. I think this was probably too much volume, but OH WELL I DO NOT CARE. I SHALL WELCOME THE CRIPPLING DOMS WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE.

Squats: 5 x 3 x 185#

Bench: 5 x 5 x 125#

Deadlifts: 3 x 5 x 225#

WFH Day 11.4

Worked a bunch, sweat a bunch because it is hotttt and humid, ran out for a couple errands in the afternoon, and wrapped up a bit later than normal. My 3rd new pair of running shoes came in and I went for a test run. They feel really nice and fit my feet well. The jog was not easy, but the shoes seemed nice. I maybe figured it out! As the knee pain problems have been across different shoes, I'm still going to try to get a professional eye to help me out. But at least I have road shoes again!

💪Chin-ups: 6, 6, 6, 5

🏃‍♀️Jogged 3.5 miles at ~9:15 min/mile

🚶‍♀️2 walks of medium length

🐉D&D with the our favorite bugbear bard

D&D Things

Did I update you at all about my dear, avg of -1 modifier bard lately? A few sessions ago, she picked up a jeweled eyepatch and a +1 sword (and has 10 ft melee range from being a long-limbed beastie), so she's now basing her entire fighting identity around a falsified swashbuckling past. They leveled up to level 3, so she signed up for a couple College of Swords correspondence courses to specialize in melee (because it has the least impact from her awful modifiers, lmao). She doesn't like being half blind so she wears the eyepatch slightly above her eye, of course -- like those people who wear their masks with their nose out.

We met a bunch of dragon fanboys who want to like be best friends with some nearby baby dragon and escorted them to the dragon, planning on playing a whole "hey dragon, you should eat these guys because they're like weird and obsessed with you" game. But when we got to the dragon, they go "we also got you these adventurers!" And we're like "NO THAT'S OUR BIT! WE WERE GONNA SAY THAT!" And closed the door on them with the dragon. We'll see what happens next week, ha.

Oh gosh, your Memorial Day weekend and following just sounds so nice!  All that outside time, the hang out time, that picture in the concrete is so dangy artsy I can't stand it lol.  LOVE IT!    D&D, the lifting gym reopening for outdoor stuff in a really well planned way.    Awesome.  Awesome awesome awesome.

Do keep an eye on that knee and don't rush things or push through body talk.   I refer to spots being 'chatty' when I get twinges, so now even my chiropractor has come to understand my lingo., "How are you feeling?"  "Oh good, except I have a chatty  hip."

Day 11.5

Busy day of work and errands. I got to lift again, and I'm just going to keep being excited about that. I did triples instead to tone down the volume a smidge because I was still so sore from Wednesday. I lifted in the shade of a blooming tree with a nice, steady breeze. It was actually gorgeous despite being in a parking lot, ha.

Squats: 4 x 3 x 215#
Bench: 4 x 3 x 130#

Bulgarian split squats: 3 x 10 x 25# DBs

Half kneeing single arm OHP: 3 x 12 x 25# DB

🏋️‍♀️Lifted!!!

🚶‍♀️Walked a bunch

🌳Hung outside for a while

🍤Cookout with QP

Day 11.6

Saturday, we got iced coffees and made breakfast and then I hopped back home to shower and change for a social distancing birthday party in the park and went to my friend's place after for a fire pit visit with s'mores, more beers, and talking with folks I hadn't seen in months. We were all pretty far apart and adhering to the social distancing recs for the most part.

🎊Birthday in the park

🔥Social distancing fire pit with s'mores

🚶‍♀️A bit of walking around, but way less than normal

🧘‍♀️Morning stretch session

💻Video chatted late into the night

Day 11.7

Much of my Sunday was spent protesting. Afterwards, I took a nap and ordered Chinese food entirely because I got a craving after some person with brain worms told us "if you don't like the country now, just wait until China takes over." Ha.  Weirdly, only this instagram post is refusing to embed... but little protest sign with the classic children's book statues in the park: https://www.instagram.com/p/CA3db-VA64K/

🏃‍♀️Jogged 3.5 miles -- I made the mistake of having a kind of oily and very onion-y breakfast that seemed to give me some kind of upper stomach indigestion and heartburn while I ran, so I stopped early. Oops. PB&J only for future morning runs, haha.

Police brutality protest

🧹Cleaned the pantry

📝Journaled

Jogging 2/4

Pulls 3/3

Handstand 5/5

Flexibility 1/2

Leg: 2/2

So! I will probably not be trying to jog 4x a week going forward, haha. Now that lifting is an option, I'll aim for 2x per week jogging instead and lift 3-4x.

Maybe KB Girl's magic knee fixer will help both of us!

Sooo sorry for disappearing right after I offered :(

Reading your updates i'm not sure the magic knee fixer will work for you, but it most certainly doesnt hurt to try. I'll film it tomorrow or hunt down an old video.

Maybe/hopefully it’s not even needed anymore, but if you do still have pain;

its a good exercise to do regardless- it’ll never harm you.. but it works best if you have pain and can find the pain so you can do the exercise and see if it makes the pain lessen or even go away entirely. Then you’ll know for sure that it’s worth your time.
