Zero week. Zero motivation.

Really zero. Moving is too much effort for too little reward. Sleep is too much effort for too little reward. Ditto watching TV. Making food. Mere existence is haaaaard.

What would Iroh do, guys?

I accidentally slept through my alarm this morning, and missed the family call again, but I actually slept and felt rested, so I'm not sure I care. (I have a 28 hour sleep deficit for this week. Sleep has been terrible.)

I did 10 minutes of housework today, and honestly feel very accomplished, because I'm functioning on, like, a 28 hour sleep deficit, and it's hot, and I don't wanna. Maybe I will do more later.

I also got groceries and put them away, so maybe that's another ten minutes. There will soon be reward ice cream.

I got a late start on my jobs for today, because I had a long Father's Day video call with my parents. I got them started on Overdrive, just to put another digital tool in their post-plague toolkit. Their local library is probably pretty safe and all, but even if I can cut down their trips by half, it's less exposure for something that's a big part of their quality of life. Right now, we're all prepping for the long haul.

And I finally decided on a gift for them, once I found a good mail-based exchange program for Sodastream CO2 canisters. I also ordered my own refills, because my canister is nearly empty, and this is having an effect on my hydration levels, man. Cold water is okay. Cold fizzy water, though, I can suck that down all day. (Plus I have soda and tonic flavoring for literally ten gazillion liters. Well, okay, more like 80 liters. A lot.)

I batch-cooked yesterday, and put it away today, labeled and dated. I've decided dates would be useful.

Right. Back to the task mines.

We had looked into Sodastream at one point but decided not to do it because of some reason I cant recall.  What do you think of yours?

I have a different but similar brand that uses the same canister. (Honestly, I think they're probably essentially the same, it's not exactly rocket science.) I really like mine. Way, way more efficient than buying carbonated stuff. I don't have to carry tons of bottles, take out tons of recycling, and I have basically anything on demand; sparkling water, soda, cocktails. It lives on my bar.

It is a gentler fizz then cans of soda, smaller bubbles, like Italian soda. I prefer that. Some Sodastream models seem to have an adjustable level. Their cola flavor is not Coke, but other than that, it's fine. I'm not a huge Coke drinker anyway, I just got that flavor as a drink mixer.

Hmmm, that's very useful feedback. We are currently in a fizzy drink phase but the only flavor we like is Schweppes Peach Water.  It would be nice to have alternatives, not to mention less recycling.

I did super well on my list yesterday. I did super badly on sleep. Super badly.

So I ate badly (not really badly, just badly for me), napped, worked, napped, worked, napped, worked, and now I'm winding down to do it again. My plan for now is just sleep when tired, then do stuff until I'm tired again. Night and day mean nothing.

I do feel loads better now after some rest (and some work), and there are slow improvements going on with my job list. I'm using Habitica to test a prototype chore schedule. It's based on Unfuck Your Habitat's weekend cleaning schedule, but doubled up, so I'm also doing two jobs a day during the week and again on the weekend. That won't be forever, I have stuff to catch up on. It puts about the right amount of carrot and stick on things, and having it formally scheduled out helps me trust the system more.

I think more exercise would help me sleep better. I lost a lot of walking when locked started. I don't have great outdoors options. I have a number of good indoors options, but none that are good long, slow movement during the day, which is one of my gaps, or things I can do while doing light work. They're all workouts that need my full attention. I can pace a bit, but my pacing space is limited. We'll see. I don't want to add another scheduling thing into my day, not while I'm having such schedule struggles. I need to find a way to make some extra light movement slip in organically, like walking on my conference calls or something. Maybe I will try the outside a few days a week; I should have enough masks for that. I might mop my floor more often for the light exercise, once my job list is a little more under control, although that's depressing. Maybe I can find some sword drills or something else with footwork. That's a little more space efficient than pacing.

Week 1 Day 1

Okay, I talked myself into doing the thing I was gonna skip, and I don't regret it. It's short, it's really good for me. I was all, "it's late, I should get to bed, I didn't get enough rest for extras". But then I remembered that night and day mean nothing, and I do what I feel like, and I felt fine. And more movement is good. Plus, if I lure Chris back and have to admit I missed the one big piece of physical training on day 1, it'd be embarrassing.

I also worked a little on doing things with concentration. But not elegance.

Calligraphy: done

Painting: done

Rock garden: done (less than planned, but enough to qualify)

Sword: done (yoga)

I stretched out nicely. That lower back thing definitely is partly muscle tension. It's painful to put pressure on when I start that yoga routine (it starts with a dead bug pose that had a nice spinal massage if you rock a bit), like one giant foam rolling knot, and much better by the end. So there must be something it's compensating for, probably in my sitting posture or something.

I took a nice cold shower. Now I'm gonna hydrate a ton while watching gardening videos, then catch my next nap.

Week 1 Day 2

Calligraphy: done (on a technicality)
Painting: skipped
Rock garden: done (less than planned, but enough to qualify)
Sword: done (strength)

I'm much more rested today, on the "work when awake, sleep when tired" principle. (Though my fitness tracker has been doing a bad job of registering my sleep. I think it believes I've forgotten how.)

Despite being rested, I basically didn't wanna at all today, so... didn't. Well, I did some of the things. Small improvements were made.

Right, shower then the next nap.

GUYS WHY DO I HAFTA DO THE THINGS I DON'T WANNA DO THE THINGS.

It does not help that despite fairly responsible sleep and time use today, I have still ended up with more things than time to comfortably do them in.

(Part of this is probably sleep deficit. I just want naps all the time, including now.)

Well, I'll do a new thing. New things are good, right? Then I'll come back to the old things.

Still don't wanna do the things. At least not the scheduled things. Have pushed myself through some of them.

In the interests of habit startup, I've moved the painting and writing to alternate days while I get used to it.

Cleaning and organizing is the worst, guys. The worst. Oh my god, every day is just an endless slog of chores. How can humans live like this.

ADHD is, in many ways, an issue affecting the levels of chemicals that cause the brain to feel reward. (That's why it makes habit formation, boredom, and procrastination so difficult to work around.) So that one may be a biochemically lost cause.

That makes me sound very wise, doesn't it? I wish sleep were more feasible, I had two hours of it last night. And that took a lot of effort to obtain. (Though I cannot, in truth, say I was following that pattern in a totally wholesome way.)

That makes it more complicated, I'm sure, but not a lost cause. Being kind to yourself is only tangentially related to rewards. Sometimes it might be as simple as remembering that ADHD makes every day more difficult right now, and to acknowledge that on a bad day, just barely managing to do the bare minimum might be a huge victory.

Or maybe instead of being kind to yourself, be patient and understanding with yourself? :)

This week's book is not on the list, but it's a book on rest and rebalancing the work/rest thing. Mine is pretty out of whack, so that's handy. And if there are any fictional dudes who get that, it's the Avatar dudes. Most of them, anyway.

I'm also moving some of my task list to a "good habits" list, so it's less irritating if I decide to go with a different project rather than slog along on a schedule. It's not responsive enough for flow and training some good "do without doing" instincts.

I've inspected the neurochemical wotsit that's failing (and which we have yet to find a working medication to address), and it looks like there is a small cluster of things that might be useful to supplement. One of them is vitamin D, which I'm low on even when I'm not in my apartment all day long, so I definitely need to get back on top of that. (It may be one of the things impacting my sleep as well.) The other is some of the amino acid precursors, which is not the most tinfoil-hat thing I could supplement, so I'll give it a shot. It'll work well as a reinforcement to my restarting intermittent fasting, if nothing else.

So this week is basically tons of hydration, tons of vitamin D, and some light exercise more aimed at sleep than training.

I'm relaxing my diet a little, because I've been having trouble feeding myself, and it seems to be partly being overwhelmed by stuff. A day or two of PB&J, hummus, and ice cream won't kill me.
