woah, it's so big!! :D  I know the "Americans have big living spaces" convo happened already — I'm a born'n'raised American, lol.  however, growing up in a trailer will taint your opinion of space for the rest of your life.

it looks immaculate.  I think the cleaning paid off.  the house looks gorgeous!!

There is never a sudden revelation, a complete and tidy explanation for why it happened, or why it ends, or why or who you are. You want one and I want one, but there isn't one. It comes in bits and pieces, and you stitch them together wherever they fit, and when you are done you hold yourself up, and still there are holes and you are a rag doll, invented, imperfect. And yet you are all that you have, so you must be enough. There is no other way.

So I should probably update my thread.

The inspection happened Monday (yes, already!). It was pretty decent, however we apparently had our dryer vent (pipe?) come unconnected (it's in our crawlspace, we don't hang out there), so we've got some clean up to do. The buyers requested us to fix it, which is totally legitimate, so we are waiting to hear back from a company to take care of that.

My husband's aunt and uncle came up on the 15th with the purpose of convincing my husband's grandmother to move back to Georgia with them. She's showing definite signs of decreased mental function (dementia is not out of the question). His aunt and uncle have a rental property next door to them where she can have some independence, but with greater oversight (his aunt works from home and his uncle is a semi-retired nurse). We were a bit concerned that she wasn't going to go, but she's come around and is planning on leaving around August 1st. This is actually good timing for us, because we are going to move into her house while our house is being built. We are paying rent still, but it's less than we would pay anywhere else.

We're struggling a bit to be supportive and help get grandma ready to go while not making it seem like we are pushing her out to rent her house. We had some potential other rentals that we were exploring in case she didn't decide to go, so it's not like all of our eggs were in that basket, but still. I'm very glad that she is going down, not because of the rent piece, but because she's got to have more support than everyone here can give her.

This has been our first full week without any kids at the house. It is so weird. Like, it's so quiet and everything is funky. We went the grocery store, because I'm trying to still be responsible and save money as much as I can. Then, we had a horrible storm come through, a transformer blew, and we ended up without power for hours. Even without opening the fridge or freezer, the temperature climbed higher than is safe for meat and dairy, so we ended up having to throw away basically everything. I guess the good thing is that at least I only shopped for two of us and we needed to clean them out anyway.

Honestly, it sounds like it's going to be a good solution for everyone. You have a place to live in the meantime, she's going to be closer to caregivers, and said caregivers get a break from "What are we going to do with this house?" while you live in it. Especially if the rent is fair and you know these relatives won't kick you out with little notice. (not that my bitter notes come from personal experience. ;) )

I hate throwing out food after a power outage, but y'know....food poisoning isn't fun either. :D But there's still a part of you that's like "Man, I really wanted to eat that."

I was just looking at your thread about the food not tasting good and figured you'd have some solidarity. 😄 Yeah, it really sucked, but I didn't see the point of taking the chance on it. I'd rather deal with having to purchase more food than potentially get sick off of it. We were hoping that since we didn't open the fridge, it wouldn't be an issue, but it was long enough (and hot enough outside!) that we didn't really have another good option.

Luckily, the relatives wanted someone living in the house over the winter (I know you understand this!) to make sure that nothing goes wrong when it gets cold. And they already know they don't want to see the property while grandma is still living. So we aren't too worried about that - I know that isn't something every family can say!

That is really awesome.  Yeah, it's always nice to have someone home when something decides to leak, and just to make sure the pipes don't freeze!  It sounds like a perfect arrangement!

Yeah, I will always back you up on throwing out food. Especially if it's gone bad or if you just had a terrible recipe :D :D:D  What my mom does is she keeps a bag of ice cubes in the freezer, and if the ice is still in cubes, she knows the food in it is okay, but if it's a block, then she knows it got too warm at some point.

Is the quiet still weird?

We do the same with a quarter on top of a frozen cup of ice!

And yes, the quiet is still weird. If anyone wants to come stay at my house, you are all invited.
