Chesire's Stewardship

Chesire

Recommended Posts

I'm no longer working and not going back for the foreseeable future.  Therefore I need to fill my time or go mad and feel like a useless lump.  And so a new challenge is born.

I'm learning how to be a housekeeper, homemaker, house spouse... ugh These do not speak to me, so I am choosing steward.  Sounds so in charge!  I want that.  But I need time to figure it out.   Just so happens I have a few weeks to devote to it right now.

I know this will be a developing and adapting challenge as I progress and start to learn what does and doesn't work.  The major things I now I want to tackle to begin with are:  a schedule for house upkeep, a plan for bigger tasks that I can tackle myself, budget-friendly meal planning, avoiding too much sluggish time.

I'm finishing up the darebee Hero's Journey - 10 days left!  I will do a rest week after that but then I want to further my calisthenics work.  I think I'm focused enough now to develop a plan. And I plan on doing the NF 5K, cuz why not?

That's the basics for now.  I'll probably fill it out more in the near future.

Organized planning happened!  I'm treating my stewardship as my job and that means I need to get paid!  Took inspiration from @Terah making change-Thanks! Still going to keep this fun so quests, missions, and traps incoming!  Each one earns or loses me money for the week.  Guess I'll be tracking better too.

Some basics I've established for this challenge are; this is based on a 6 planned days, the 7th is as I see fit, domain quests are specific to household upkeep and budget awareness, and they are generally addressed after the physical missions.  Speaking of which, Constitution Missions are things that are specific to my own growth and pleasure, and they are broken out into mental, physical, and health missions.   And then! the traps.  These are requirements that if I don't fulfill i will be penalized.  Finally, I have several bonuses lined up.  They are things I would like to stretch for but aren't necessary.

Those traps are pretty expensive losses, relatively.  The earnings are only 50¢ or $1 each, but those traps are larger and add up more quickly.  Now to be sure I side-step them!

Today is officially day 1, and how to do I start this?  A dinner* with my parents and another couple.  You know this will devolve to a celebration of just seeing other people and therefore too much alcohol!  But it is planned for, so I'm good for it.

*precautions have been taken, of course

Following! Steward of your own house sounds SO MUCH BETTER than "homemaker" or "house spouse" It's wild how much different it is trying to get yourself to do things when you don't have things like work to keep your routine in check. This is set up great, I can't wait to see how you go! and also all these craft projects you have going! am excite!

There wasn't "too much" alcohol!  My friend and I decided to do a mocktail challenge for dinner in the effort to reduce wine damage, and it worked!  I made a ginger lemon shrub to mix with sparkling water (aka drinking vinegar) and it was delicious.  The vinegar bite was substitute for the alcohol tingle so it satisfied in that way, and the the whole thing was wonderfully refreshing on a hot day.  Success!

Woah, there's really so many goals! Do you keep them all in your head?

I was overwhelmed when I wrote them all down!  But ultimately it's only a handful of daily activities, a few once or twice a week tasks, and the rest are a push to follow through and finish something.  And once I get settled in to the routine, like mornings are for fitness, then dog walking, then shower, then...... etc, it should follow through, hopefully.

Speaking of which...  time to go see what happens today on the Hero's Journey.  (I hope it isn't kickboxing related)

Clearly vacations aren't happening this year, so we decided this weekend is going to have as much backyard vacation attitude as possible.  Lounging out in the sun, books, games, snacks.  What's a vegetable?  We don't need no stinkin' vegetables.

Quick recap of the week before I get into vacation mode.  Going pretty well so far.  The difficulties are generally not surprising to me. Come Friday I really just don't want to do any housework.  My creative energy goes in waves and I don't quite know how to work with that.  I don't want to force it and dislike the thing.  We'll see.  Fruit is hard for me.  It always needs more effort of thought than vegetables, even when on my meal plan.  And alcohol, I'm not seeking zero alcohol, more like conscious decision making about it, but it's hard to stop and think about it when MrC offers a drink while he is pouring his.  Habits are hard to break.

That sounds like a lovely vacation :). I have similar problems with fruit when at home. When at work, I just eat all the food I bring, but at home it's somehow more difficult to eat fruit. At some point I want to see whether it's the preparation, e.g. to pre-cut all fruits in the morning so that it's an easier snack.

Have a nice vacation!

Saw a good comic once with a carrot with a small leaf (frawn? i think thats a thing) but massive carrot underneath, and then a carrot with a big leaf/frawn and tiny baby carrot body. I always do one bed of carrots and one bed of beets because I love the mystery of the root veggies. Of course, it can be disappointing when thats what ya get. Hopefully youre just thinning them?  I know I am nowhere near picking time but I am in upstate NY

Exactly.  And I wasn't really expecting much since the seeds were several years old. I also used radishes early in the season to loosen the soil since I had the seeds left over to from 2 years ago.  bonus: pickled radishes are delicious.   Had a pretty good turn out from peas and spinach this year!  I suspect you are in a slightly cooler growing region to my southern NH.
