Jupiter Gets Back To Basics

Jupiter

Recommended Posts

So, I'm really not feeling it this challenge. I really don't want to do anything at all, but I need to, so here I am. Trying to keep things really simple this challenge. Goals:

Fitness:

- Strength training 3 sets 1x week

- Yoga between 10 and 30 minutes 2x a week

Nutrition:

- Fruit 1x 3 days a week

- Veggies 1x 3 days a week

Intellectual:

- Revise 1-2 pages a day. I finally finished revamping my outline so I'm ready to start at the beginning again.

Misc:

- Read 30 minutes a day

- Cook up to 3x a week

- Track everything every day. I have stopped doing this, so I need to get back into the habit again.

- Bed by 10pm

And that's it for now. I feel like I've slid backwards rather than moved forward but I figure doing something is always better than nothing. So even though I don't want to be doing any of this right now, I'm going to make myself do it anyway (or try at least) and see how it works out.

Maybe look at it as a period of rest rather than a backslide. From what I've read, you're exhausted. Stress does terrible things to both body & mind.

I'm not saying don't do anything, but I am saying give yourself some grace. Breathe a little. *hugs*

I don't agree with all of the comparisons but I like the music one. :)

This was really interesting. I do believe schools today stifle creativity & independent thought. Anyone who dares to think for themselves or break outside of the box schools try to put you in is considered abnormal.

The music analogy was great.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah this is unfortunately true.

Yikes! this might've been my issue last challenge. I felt really overwhelmed, but I still pushed myself to complete it, but I didn't hit my goals at a level I felt satisfactory. It's good you're still participating in the challenge and doing something though, so you don't lose momentum. If it becomes overwhelming, I would say its okay dial back on your goals to something you know you can hit (for a bit of a morale boost) and adjust so you don't feel discouraged. Just finishing a challenge at all is an accomplishment to be proud of. 🖤 I think it helped me last one to dial back to a level I knew felt "safe" or comfortable, b/c "pushing through it" hasn't been the most effective tactic in the past, for me at least. Maybe this could be helpful to you too if that funk persists?

Sometimes you can breeze through life at 110%, and sometimes 40% feels like 200% and you're dying! You gotta let that annoying stamina bar recharge before you can sprint across the map again. :P As long as you don't give up or be hard on yourself at points like this, you will come across a second wind and will be slaying again soon! :)  Best of luck! 🤗

Work was slightly less crazy today, but still busy. The notable thing though is that after I clocked out for the day I didn't stay logged in to keep an eye on emails. I...logged off. Like, out of everything, pretty much right after clocking out. Caused me a little bit of anxiety to do it but also kind of freeing at the same time. And since I ended up with a few extra minutes I drew something. I have a how-to-draw-comics book that I bought a while ago and never looked at so I started going through it a little bit. I drew an eye, nothing fancy. It's not very good and looks flat and one dimensional, but I enjoyed it. Anyway, stats:

- Did my strength training workout (forgot to add that I'm back to my minimum reps. It was harder than it should be, but at least I did all 3 sets)

- Ate some veggies

- Revised 2 pages

- Tracked everything today so far

Still aiming to read some tonight before bed. And that's all I've got. Not bad all things considered.

It is totally okay to have a simple challenge. I have had the challenges where I don't wanna but I am trying anyway. Hopefully you get a simple challenge that allows you to rest and reset. Good luck this challenge and hopefully it goes well.

Thanks, appreciate it. :) Hope yours goes well too. :)

Yeah, I've gone back to what I consider a "minimum effort" so I'm hoping that'll help me rest and reset like Bean said so I can inch forward again.

Yesss!  This is the best kind of self care!  I remember the day I decided to turn off push notification to my phone from my work email.  It was THE BEST.  GREAT JOB!

Great job hitting your goals!!!

YESSSSS I've heard this for so many people lately, that they're really just plugged into work all the time. The anxiety is totally understandable, and hopefully will ease up more and more as it becomes a habit. Yay!!

Your first day was great! And, you know, your goals are still at the same level as they were a few challenges ago, even though it might not feel that way. If this is your new "10%" because other things in life now take up more energy, then I'd say it's a big win :).

You know I didn't really think of it like that, but yeah, you're right. Thanks! :)

Yup, that's exactly it. Especially since I'm working from home, it feels like it's harder to really separate myself from it. I'm hoping the anxiety eases up too the more I do it. Thanks! :)

So I was a little anxious coming in to work this morning. I had almost 70 emails and I almost thought there was a problem with one of my files, but turns out it wasn't much of a problem and they solved it without me (thank goodness LOL). So I logged out after I clocked out again. I was too tired at that point to be anxious about it so in a way it was easier to do LOL. I really didn't want to do anything after that, but after I read for an hour or so I got myself up to cook dinner. Out of everything I had planned to do today I really, really didn't want to cook anything. But I had chicken in the fridge that I needed to make, so I made it. I didn't even put spices on it, I just shoved it in the oven to cook. Good thing I bought soy sauce at the store this weekend so I can give it at least a little flavor. Anyway, stats:

- Read for an hour

- Cooked dinner

- Ate 1 serving of veggies, 2 servings of fruit. Ate the fruit more as an afterthought after I ate a bunch of crap. But at least I got in some healthy stuff.

- Revised 2 pages. Halfway through chapter 1 and so far I don't hate it. Progress.

- Was in bed by 10pm last night

- Tracked everything so far

And that's all I've got. Good night nerds.

Nice! Hopefully people will get used to this, and if a problem is really critical they can always call you. Hopefully they will continue to fix small problems themselves, and let you be offline when you're off the clock :).

Yay for cooking dinner anyways, even though you were tired!

Ugh, I just cannot get rid of this tired. It seems to be taking up most of my afternoon/evenings, to the point where I'm dragging by the end of the work day and can barely make it through the last hour, and then I'm useless for a while after that. And it doesn't help that work was awful today either. Bunch of stupid technical issues and people being dumb. On the bright side, I was invited to a friend's pot luck (it's a very small gathering), so I have that to look forward to at least. Anyway, stats:

- Read for an hour. Almost done reading Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder. I like the "Writes a Novel" version better but this one's still interesting and has some good info.

- Did yoga for 10 minutes. Tried a new video, which I really liked. It was short, simple and easy, which was exactly what I needed today.

- Ate 2 servings of veggies and 1 serving of fruit

- Revised about a page-ish

- Tracking. Eh, sort of. The only thing I didn't track was food (other than the veggies/fruit). I ate a ton of junk food today and I really don't want to see what those calories look like.

- 10pm bedtime. Didn't quite make it last night, but I was close.

Got an idea for a short story, but I'm not sure I want to do anything with it. I'm not very good at short stories, and I'm not sure I want to switch my focus from the novel right now.

Great! Do you have a link? I'm always looking for more videos like that as well.

Ugh :(. Do you take sufficient (mini-)breaks? Otherwise, let's hope it's the position of Venus compared to the moon and disappears on its own.

I'm having the opposite problem.  I just dove back into my novel for fun, and am so distracted.  But, I feel like I'm going to pursue it as a "for fun" kind of thing and focus my publishing attention on my shorts.  Why do you feel you aren't good at short stories?

I don't have a link handy at the moment but it's yoga with Kassandra, the 10 minute flexibility full body yoga flow video.

I have not been taking any breaks lately LOL, except for maybe a minute here and there. That's probably why. I need to start trying to fit them in again, but as busy as we are, I'm not sure how I'm going to do that yet.

Sounds like you've got a good plan. :) I've tried to get short stories published in the past and haven't been able to, so I just figured I'm bad at it LOL.
