My goal this challenge is just going to be to re-establish routine of socially distant softball, martial arts, running and gardening. :)

today I got 2/4 in with a run and then lawnmowing, trimming, tree trimming and weeding of weed trees. I am tired.

Hiya!  You may be late, but you beat me in getting your challenge up. :)

Glad to hear you are back at work and cleared for doing your physical activities.

I envy you your government right now. Things are opening up in your province because they are getting covid under control. Things are opening up here because our government is stupid and doesn't care who dies.

I normally do my run on the weekend but today I felt like going for a run so I did.

I did the same distance as Saturday in about 2/3 the time. Difference? Today it's 22C out, Saturday it was almost 40C with humidity. XD

I have (re) discovered that while I don't always feel like exercise I do always feel better after exercise. :)

I do not blame you. Watching what's going on South has felt increasingly like watching a slow disaster. I can't even imagine what it's like to live there. I am so sorry your government is placing corporate profits and election year image management over managing the crisis effectively.

Honestly, after having watched Chernobyl, it's like living that out. A whole bunch of incompetent governance and an embarrassment of a country and government that really doesn't like to be embarrassed.

Monday: I wanna do some gardening!

Weather: *cold and rainy*

Me: Boo. It's good running weather at least?

Tuesday: I wanna go to martial arts!

My ride: falls through.

Me: Boo. I will walk home instead of cabbing then.

Wednesday: I wanna go practice softball drills!

Practice: *falls through*

Me: Boo. Guess 10.5K walk with my partner then.

Thursday: I wanna do martial arts and softball tonight!

Weather: Have a cyclic severe thunderstorm line projected to keep your weather in thunderstorms from 30min before class to 2 hours after!

Martial Arts: *is cancelled*

Softball: *rescheduled*

Me: Boo. Guess I'll do some weights at home?

Seriously none of my workout plans are working out this week but at least I am being active?

Yesterday I went for 2.5 hour "hike" with a friendand my partner. Mildly disappointed that what was advertised as a hiking trail was really more of a groomed walking path. 😕 I had wanted to tackle one of the more challenging trails that would hopefully have been some actual hiking but I got outvoted. Next time I will push to get the more challenging trails in.

(Also: seriously, Canadian parks, quit claiming groomed walking paths are "hiking trails". IT'S NOT A TRAIL IF YOU'RE WALKING ON A GRAVEL FRIGGIN ROAD. It's a groomed walking path. There's a difference! Yes this is a pet peeve of mine.)

Having seen Chernobyl, that's a surprisingly apt analogy

I remember Chernobyl. (I lived in the part of Sweden that was hit with the majority of the fallout and, while a child, I was old enough to understand what was happening.) Good grief was that poorly handled by the Soviet government!

Also, hello again! Sorry I'm late to the party! :)

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

Woohoo. My back injury recovery self out-hiked over rough ground two ppl who are reasonably fit, WHILST loaded with a 30lb rucksack of water, first aid supplies and emergency food they didn't have.

I am feeling more than a little smug rn.

I just need to get my back tolerant of full pushups and oblique peels and then I am at 100% I would say.

Also: weirdly, I can do spinning jump kicks but can't do full push ups. Can hike with a 30lb pack over rough terrain but can't do a side peel. Backs are weird.
