I also forgot in yesterday's update that I got up at 6 am because my (other) cat was doing laps around the bed to indicate that she was hungry, and instead of going back to bed after shoving food at her I stayed up and watched the sunrise. It was very peaceful and nice and I sat on the patio for about an hour until the mosquitos found me. 

 

The cat, of course, went immediately back to bed. Because cats.

6 AM again. I love these little fuckers like my own life, but I have GOT to feed them before bed so they don’t wake me up pre-dawn so often. Although the extra quiet time is nice.

what is it about Friday that brings out the level 5? I do not know, I only know that I am there. 

 

- I talked to my mom today to plan the weekend, and I mentioned that I plan to return home of Monday night. She got all salty that I wasn't staying until Tuesday, which would be four full days, and I had to really restrain myself from pointing out that I am driving nine hours each way every other weekend to see her, while her OTHER offspring, who lives 40 minutes away, hasn't been by in months, but that would have gone nowhere so I bit my tongue. Also, there is a hurricane headed for Florida. 

 

- then my boyfriend announced that he told two of his friends that they could stay overnight tonight because their house is being rewired, and did I mind making up the futon in my office for them. 

 

- "well, actually, they're coming for the whole weekend, but you won't be here so it won't matter..."

 

- "...and they're bringing all their pets." (2 dogs, 2 cats)

 

- Plus the DOMS in my chest seems to have progressed to a full blown injury - I think I strained the point where my pectoral attaches to my breast (heh) bone. So that means setbacks. [SIGHS DRAMATICALLY]

 

- I'm trying to finish work before I hit the road at three, and I can see I'm not going to get there. Some of the stuff on my list has been there since Monday, which is NOT a good feeling. But this week was exceptionally nuts - I was answering the work phone until 8:30 last night. ("So, I ran a lap at a track like five years ago and my girlfriend plays table tennis, how do we sign up for races? Do we get to do mountaineering?")

 

- My cat (cat #1) just threw up on my shoes

 

plus I'm trying to decide if I should pitch to my boss that if he expands the business, he should just put me in charge of the new stuff as well and pay me more money, rather than hire a second person. It's really the logical thing to do, and I could really use that extra paper, but it's going to up my workload a fair bit. But I'm trying to find a way to make extra money anyway - scuba certification does not pay for itself - and if I could get it all in one place it would be simpler. 

 

Adding to the sand in my underwear, my boyfriend and I have been doing much better getting-along-wise lately (other than him finding my coronavirus paranoia tiresome) but last night I was talking about the trip I want to take to the Keys to get my dive cert and he was all, "just get it here, it's so much cheaper not to travel and to get certified in a pool" and I could not make him comprehend that I really, really want to GO somewhere and you know, DIVE, not just do it in a swimming pool and watch dive videos on TV, and it escalated into a minor argument, and anyway I think my boyfriend is an alien because how does any normal human not realize what a stupid idea that is.

If i (someone who has been a professional couch potato for more than half my life), in his late 30's can do:

 

a sub 2 hour 1/2 marathon

finish a 20 mile 200 obstacle race

do a powerlifting total of ~ 5 times my bodyweight

 

Than it might be you that underestimate the average male body...

So I definitely think you should to the keys and eat key lime pie and do some Jimmy Buffet karaoke AND go diving. But, if there is a good dive instruction option near you , you might consider taking the class locally. There might even be some deal to take the class locally and do the check out dives in the key. The potential bonus of doing the class near you is that you can spread it out over a longer time and (in my opinion) have the training sink in a little better than if you learned it all in a few days. [on YOUR side though, with whatever you want to do].

This is a...reasonably well thought out and sensible suggestion?  

 

Most of the dive places have some option where you can start the book larnin’ portion ahead of the trip, rather than waste margarita time learning about surface intervals and nitrogen narcosis. So I’ll probably at least do that. 

 

And of course this all assumes we haven’t plunged into a new dark age and resorted to cannibalism by December.

Ok, but about halfway through, the reclusive mystery writer has to drop out of conversation and as the private investigator who freeloads goes back into the navy when his best friend gets married you have to strongly hint you were the owner all along.

GOD, HOW IS IT WEDNESDAY ALREADY

 

I have no idea how I'm doing this week. Is this a challenge? Do I even have goals? Who am I?

 

 

 

 

Where was I. I'm not going to break down every day because no one has that kind of time. I was at my mom's for Sat/Sun/Monday, that went well except for not sleeping well and this rib injury sucking. I did one workout while I was there and took my work stuff. Sunday was my mom's birthday and I took her for a drive to the beach, which she liked very much. She hasn't left the house except for doctor's appointments in eight months. We stayed in the car, no being around other people.

 

A bunch of her friends came at various times over the weekend to celebrate the birthday (socially distantly, masks and all that). Every single person brought toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

 

The hurricane went off west to ruin Mississippi and Texas. 

 

Monday night I drove home, it rained every fucking second because of the outer bands of the hurricane. Got home at 1 am. 

 

Tuesday I was back in my office, but frankly I was not at my best. No focus blocks happened. I hung out with the Mantis in the afternoon which was fun. ETA: I also made a huge farmer's market run and bought myself some of those white orchids that always make me feel like I'm in an 80's movie about a drug dealer. 

 

Tuesday night boyfriend and I had just settled down to sleep when we heard a weird crack noise, turned on the light and there was a giant crack running across the bedroom ceiling over our heads. There has been a leak issue in the roof ever since we moved in and we had part of it replaced last summer, and there's actually a tarp on it now while we wait for more repairs. We've had the ceiling fall in in the living room and the downstairs den. Boyfriend wanted to switch and sleep with our heads at the foot of the bed, but I insisted on moving down to the bed in my office (the friends that were supposed to come for the weekend didn't come so it was still made up). Ten minutes after we moved downstairs we heard rumbling and the ceiling fell in, so I made the right call there. He spent the day removing plaster and stuff while I worked in my office. 

 

My nutrition has improved slightly, but I haven't been able to work out which bothers me. Hopefully I will start back up tomorrow. 

 

Wednesday: 

 

Hyper weasel: I have not meditated at all and I am filled with angst about it. 

 

Sleep weasel: I've been sleeping like hell and I'm taking benedryl to help me sleep. I always thought I was the only person who knew about this off-label use but apparently it's not a secret. I feel bad about it, but not bad enough to sleep shitty.

 

Multitasking weasel: fuuuuuuuuuuck

 

Boundaries weasel: this is okay, I was on the phone too early this morning but I'm still better about it than I was.
