Salinger

Salinger's thirty third challenge!

Recommended Posts

Hey all.

Here is my new challenge.

I am focusing on eating right, eating home cooked food as much as i can.

I have had tests recently and have high cholesterol, bad liver, and perhaps PCOS. Feel like i'm falling apart.

Losing weight will help all these issues though.

I eat takeout too much, because i'm lazy and tired. That needs to change/stop.

GOALS:

- Eat home-cooked meals (5 days per week at least)

- Find new recipes (i am getting Hello Fresh deliveries which will help with this)

- Take a photo of meals and upload here (accountability!)

These are my main goals, of course, drinking less alcohol, moving more, keeping on top of work are also goals for me but im trying to keep it simple and straightforward for now.

Peace x

I feel this. Since my husband will be gone the next week and a half (after Tuesday) I am trying to challenge myself to not eat out but once a week while he is gone.  I loove that you are simplifying your life by getting hello fresh!  There are TONS of recipes I want to try that he has no interest in, so that's my motivation :) We can do it!

Sorry that you're faced with all these health issues, but you have a good plan!!

yasss, lets do this! I Loe that you don't take too many goals up at once. For me that always ends in big overwhelm and frustration. To cook for yourself is a huge deal when you work full-time. Its not because you are lazy, its just a lot of work after a hard day of work. Glad you have hello fresh so you don't have to have too much additional shopping. Grateful that you are in this challenge as well! :)

I like how you’re taking it one change at a time. Good luck! It may help to do batch meals, so you can just eat “leftovers” too.

My eating fail when my husband is away is eating lots of convenience food like instant noodles and chilled pizzas XD

Hey Liz!

I'm here, again to spread my (dubious) knowledge and (not so) bright ideas :)

Great you focus on what's most important right now. Keeping it simple surely helps with not distracting yourself from main goal :)

Hi its 8pm here. Im so tired. Last night i over indulged in drink, what a fucking surprise?! Today i have felt rough all day, napping a little, and not doing much else at all.

Im starting to panic about finances, and work load and health.

I need a few days off the booze now. Its a friends birthday on Friday, so no drinking till then...it will do me good.

Bit of a nightmare as the back of the toilet seems to have come loose and i flushed it and it started to FLOOD... ive contacted the landlord so just waiting to hear back. Jeeez.

Got a million emails to respond to and stuff to do work wise but think ill leave it till the morning when i am fresher.

I have the doctors appointment in the morning which i am absolutely dreading. :( scared.

All in all, a quite disappointing start to a brand new challenge :o xx

Morning all. 9.45am.

I slept good last night, went to bed around half 9, slept till 4am, then fell back to sleep till 8am. Been up for an hour, working. Replying to my emails i had gotten over the past few days.

Busy day today - i lost yesterday due to the hangover. And so i need to do double the work today to get back on track.

I do feel a bit better, more refreshed this morning - NO hangover which is nice.

Tired though, but no change to normal.

I cancelled my doctors appointment, i actually rang them and spoke to the doctor who told me not to worry, she emailed me some info on high cholesterol and stuff. Diet mainly for changes to that. I felt too panicked to go in :( stupid tbh but im grateful for the doctor calling me and reassuring me. She said to call her next week and book in an appointment.

Ok ...

Tomorrow my Hello Fresh food arrives. i have two days left of last weeks (because i didnt cook everyday last week...) so tonight, i think i will make a chicken curry! yum.

I need to ensure i eat properly all week now, and use up the food that arrives. I also have a steak in the fridge ... so perhaps a steak and salsa sandwich for lunch one day!? mmmm

Just need to do better, its not life or death (at the moment) but my family has heart problems in its genetics...i HAVE to look after myself more. And eating correctly, eating home made food, is a good starting point i think.

xx

Hey all, 4.45pm here, been wet AGAIN rainy, boring, with fleeting sunshine. But cold... chilly...

I cant seem to eat anything without feeling very nauseous after, all i had for lunch was ham salad sandwich and i feel sick... 2 hours later still. ugh.

Its like the only thing i can eat/want is cereal or toast!!!???

I will still cook a chicken/veg curry later tonight using my hello fresh stuff. But just explaining how i feel.

Today  has been very busy, i'm quite pleased. Ive done a lot of work, emails, project writing, meeting over zoom, more emails, research, website building. etc.

I feel very anxious though, and a little sad. :( im unsure WHY. I feel panicked and confused...like for instance, tomorrow my colleague wants to meet to launch the website ive been building for him. He said he has some champagne and beers for us. I have a panicked thought that i shouldnt drink midweek. blah blah .... i dont know why im making it into a big fucking deal. ugh.

Ill decide tomorrow probably.

I should call my parents. Im also very upset as my dad told my sister that he thinks im avoiding him 😢 which makes me real sad. Im not, but probably subconsciously i might be a little???

Anyway. My tutor from university, an American artist, and writer, had his third book published today and i am in this for a few pages.

Pretty cool hey??! :)

I am trying so hard to be kinder to myself, to eat well, to work hard.

I think ill have a bath tonight at some point. That usually helps me to feel a bit more relaxed. and cosy. and warm. xx

Sending you all the biggest hugs, Sal ❤️ Great goal(s), and i believe in you! You can do it, one choice at a time ❤️ No matter what you're feeling, it is completely okay to have feelings, and they don't mean anything bad about you, nor are they a failing. It's good to acknowledge them.

Today is a busy one again. Finishing touches to the website build, and then it goes live at 5pm.

My friends birthday is on Friday, it will be 28C - so a real hot day! I Have bought her 4 poetry books that i love...(Allen Ginsberg, Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf & TS Eliot) she has just started some poetry course, so i thought it would be a nice pressie, to inspire her hopefully.

Hey!

Congrats on being in your tutor's book :D

About eating and feeling nauseous - this may be a case when you eat too little. I had similar problems, but only in the morning. The most important thing is to eat anyway - something small and light will be enough - just teach your body to eat. On the other hand, it may be stress related, and stress is something you have in abundance (sadly). Or it may be anything else - hormones, liver, cholesterol, even blood pressure.

But as a first call, I'd bet my money on stress. Curry wasn't an issue, right? Maybe because you were more relaxed and happy with yourself (for doing lots of work) in the evening...?

No matter the cause though, you need to eat to fuel your body. If big meals are an issue, try smaller portions, but more often.

Great idea on those poetry books :)

Hugs!

Morning Aramis :)

Thank you!

And you are probably right about the stress...i also think ive built this up into such a big deal that it makes me anxious. Im slowly getting into it though... the hang of things, cooking again. and enjoying cooking. I hope it continues/gets easier !

I'm sure it will - and as cooking gets more habitual, the food will get less scary :)

Your flowers are stunning!! Also I really struggle to eat when I'm severely stressed and anxious - I get very nauseous and have to force food down.  ❤️  I hope today has been better!! Love you Sal!
