The Jedi Chronicles Ep. 6: Rise of Jedi

Hey Hi Helloooooooo.

 

So my last challenge went to heck in a handbasket whoops. Due to some semi-unforeseen circumstances, I ended up dealing with a whirlwind of E M O T I O N S and on top of all of my COVID emotions I couldn't deal. I spiraled down and down, eventually stopping my workouts, being unable to sleep, and eating my emotions even though I can do better than that and I KNOW it.

Reading Give Yourself MORE by Georgie Fear and K. Aleshia Fetters has really opened my eyes to a lot of ways I can improve my game as far as taking care of myself physically, emotionally, and mentally. It's been a game changer and I absolutely recommend it. 

 

The past couple days or so I'm really starting to get a handle on myself again. I'm seeing where I need to make changes and where I'm doing okay, and I've come up with some goals (see my last challenge) that I want to achieve. And by that, I mean that I have behaviors that I'd like to integrate into my day and practice those behaviors and tactics rather than the ones that I've been doing. I'll spend my zero week getting back on my feet, and I'll finish out my summer with a bang - where I can. Or at least I'll finish out my summer in a better emotional place than I started it!

 

So my goals for this particular challenge are as follows: 

 

Get a Sleep Schedule

I know good and well that I can't cope if I'm going to bed at ungodly hours of 2 and 3AM. I have a hard time working and it's a struggle. I also can't cope when I'm having trouble falling asleep... So I'm setting myself a bedtime and the only thing I'll consider putting before it is time with Mr. Right. As of now, my bedtime is 12 with a wakeup time of 8am. Plenty of sleep. I start getting ready for bed and winding down around 11ish.

Eat Out Less

With the loss of my energy and motivation, my ability to cook and clean is impaired. So we've been grabbing takeout SO MUCH. We spent so much on takeout this month... we need to save money as well as get ourselves healthier. My goal is to only spend $100 on food out in August. We get no more than 1 meal out each week, but preferably only 1 every two weeks. However, my ability to get groceries is a smidge limited so I'll give us that grace.

Move More

Getting moving helps me feel better! I've really dialed in on the fact that I love dancing and yoga. The goal will be to practice dancing 3x/week, but if I'm too tired(or injured) for any dancing then I can do some form of gentle yoga to get moving and help with my day. Eventually I'd like to do 5x/week but that's a bit of a dream. I need to get used to it. Ideally, I'll get 30 minutes in when I do dancing workouts. However, if I'm busy or rushing, I can definitely limit it to 10 or 15. Because it's better to do some than none!

Eat Fewer Desserts

I have been eating SO MANY SWEET THINGS. I've been trying to think of a flexible way to help gradually limit my treats a bit, because I don't need but so many. So this goal won't be entirely trackable as much as it'll be a set of guidelines to help practice when I want sweet things.

1) Say no about 50% of the time to remind myself that I don't always have to have desserts. Good times to say no are when they don't have anything appetizing, or when I'm so full that I won't be able to enjoy it.

2) Try to eat the thing I'm specifically craving. If I'm craving cookies or cookie dough, chocolate chips won't fill the void. If I want ice cream, a piece of candy won't help. I'll just eat a bunch of stuff trying to fill the void.

3) Don't overstuff with desserts. If I'm getting really full, maybe just take a little bit of the treat. Or hold off. Make sure you're going to enjoy it. 

 

These practices/habits will help guide me in general into better health habits! The goal is to take care of myself holistically. I'm getting a lot better about that, and I think these practices/goals/habits will help a lot! Some will probably need to be across multiple challenges. Others I can probably dial back in on and just have in my back pocket.

Zero Week Day 1!

 

Got my workout in yesterday, though I only danced for about 15 minutes. I packed my day yesterday a bit too full though, I had a full day of work and slept longer than my 8am, as well as dancing, plus cooking dinner. 

 

I slept in a little today - I did get up at 9:30 though. I'm not super worried about it, Mr. Right is working late so I have plenty of time to get everything done and still relax before bed without feeling like all I do is work.

Thanks! I feel like it's better to do it that way than to blanket ban sweet things. I know I have a sweet tooth, and it always gets me if I don't indulge it every once and a while

Oh hai happy first day of challenge?? Didn't even realize whoops

 

So today Mr. Right was playing bass at church and my butt had to get up at 5 A M and I'm feeling like garbage because my sleep schedule was just off enough that I only got like 3.5 hours of sleep or so. I've been coping pretty okay though.

 

I did grab us breakfast because.. well.. we do what we do. Thankful for biscuitville ❤️  And.. crap we got lunch today too. I'm only counting one of those because we had to grab groceries so the breakfast was unavoidable but lunch very much was not. It's tricky because our oven isn't working right so it's basically out of commission. I'm stovetop only and it really puts a crimp in what I can cook. 

 

However, I made dinner tonight! I found a chicken bacon ranch rice dish and then chopped up 3 roma tomatoes and cooked those up with baby spinach and added that to the dish to add Health and Veggies. If I'd actually remembered to take the bacon out, the dish would have only taken me like 30 mins. As it was, I was working for about an hour, probably less. Not terrible. If you have the time to pre-prep the veggies and bacon (I used a rotisserie chicken for the chicken and the rice was minute rice like the recipe suggested). If you're trying to eat whole foods maybe adjust this recipe a bit because it's a lot of canned broth/soups, ranch dressing seasoning packets, etc. 

 

After dinner I really wanted something sweet but I know it's because my whole body and brain are exhausted so I decided to make a cup of tea instead. Overall it seems to be a good decision. Mint tea with honey is something nice to enjoy while I wind down on my laptop :) Around 10 I'll probably go grab my sleepytime meds(melatonin and L-Theanine) and get ready for bed. I'll wind down and Mr. Right and I will go to bed around the same time tonight it sounds like. We're both exhausted. Tomorrow is work and dancing and just a general low maintenance day as long as work doesn't get too messy.

I basically dig up dance fitness classes on Youtube and do those :) Or I'll find screen recordings of Just Dance (the video game) and have some fun with those too.

Hi everyone, yesterday was so confusing because half of it was awesome and half of it was a bloody train wreck.

 

My morning was great. I got up at a reasonable time, I had breakfast, I was productive... it was stellar. I got my workout in and half of my work for the day. Loveliness.

 

Then the arm of that nasty hurricane hit us, which IMMEDIATELY knocked my internet out and absolutely turned my week on its ear. I was supposed to go with Mr. Right and a couple friends of ours to a Guitar Center a couple hours away, but I lost out on work time so I kinda have to do a bunch more to make up for not doing any. Ugh. So I had to cancel that outing. I was also supposed to meet the boss on Thursday, and have meetings, but the internet people are coming on Thursday so I'm stuck at home while they attempt to fix the internet because Mr. Right has work and he's hourly while I'm more flexible. Also I was planning to cook dinner tomorrow night because I'm going to run out of food, but I cannot do this thing because Mr. Right works close so I won't be home until almost 10PM. And my office has NO MICROWAVE. Ugh this week has turned into a mess. I am not a happy camper. I'm trying to not be a drag or annoying or blah, but it's quite tricky today.

Hi everyone, I feel less like I wanna strangle everyone in sight today.

 

Yesterday helped me calm down. I got some work done and got myself a treat of delicious cheesecake and that was my only treat and my brain didn't even want me to have any others. It was nice. Today is going to be long, but I'm going to try to make the most of it.

Guess who is still sucking at getting up on time?

 

That's right, me. 

 

It's been a long day. I got up late like a dweeb, first of all. Second of all, our internet guy didn't get finished until after 12:30. So I didn't start working until late. Well, couldn't honestly. 

 

I was on the phone or in Zoom meetings from 2pm until just now, 4:30ish. So I've used up all of my people energy for the day. Unfortunately, I've got another meeting late tonight and I'm just... not looking forward to it. Mr Right got home around 4:30, and is showering. He's got to go to a chiro appt, then practice for church band on sunday. So he'll be gone basically all night too 😕 Because of that, I really don't feel like cooking. I'll end up having to cook tomorrow. But tomorrow is going to be a mess now that I think about it. Ugh. why do I have so many things to do all at the same times...... 

 

And then I have a full work day on Saturday, plus my cousin's wedding shower (via Zoom). 

 

Between all that and the number of things I have to do for work this week while still having 5 million meetings and phone calls.... I'm super overwhelmed this week. I had a short nervous breakdown where I almost threw a shirt in the trash because it was fitting too closely to my skin, which I really wanted to crawl out of earlier. I was supposed to work out today, but I think a short yoga video will be more appropriate if I can find the time somewhere. Oh, and I also have to do the bills, which I've been dreading after the drama with one of Mr. Right's credit cards (TLDR: a payment bounced for some reason and the company locked the card and pulled the entire $2500 balance out at once, taking every penny I'd saved up to pay taxes this year. They refuse to return the $ because they said it's our fault).

 

So yeah. I'm super over this week. I was really excited and on it, but now i'm just like -_-

Ugh can this week just... not?

 

So our internet was fixed yesterday afternoon, but when I woke up this morning it was gone again. And, of course, they have to send another tech out. Which won't happen until at LEAST Monday. So I'm up a creek. 

 

I get to choose between not working and not cooking today, because husband works  10-7p and has a dr's appt at 3:30 so I'm stuck in town until after the doc appt but also there's not enough time to get all my work done if I go home and make dinner before I go grab him. I'm supposed to have a meeting at 9 tonight, but IDK if I can because NO INTERNET.

 

Tomorrow I "get" to wake up at the butt crack of dawn so I can go work another full day (thanks internet) and hopefully spend some time at my cousin's wedding shower virtually. And then I'm waking up at another ungodly time to be at church Sunday so Mr. Right can play bass for the services. I'm really over this whole thing. I'm over this week, I'm over this whole situation.

I feel less garbage like, which is weird because I'm running on NO sleep and also nothing has gotten much better. But I guess I got it all out yesterday. I was really upset most of the day yesterday tbh.

 

Even though I'm really disappointed that I won't get to go to my cousin's wedding shower, I'm trying to be positive. Example: I get to actually cook dinner tonight! I'm making a potato, sausage, and veggie skillet. 

 

At some point next week, I'm making a stir fry type chicken in my crock pot, and the hope is to stir fry veggies and make rice to have it with. 

 

Today is also going to be a grocery list day and setting up a grocery order so I can be ready for the week.

YOOOO THIS IS BULLSHIT??? I would fight this tooth and nail but also that is exhausting and the credit card company is probably banking on people not fighting it because it is exhausting and hgkldhkdsl that sucks and I'm sorry... ;_;

ISN'T IT THOUGH?? Mr. Right was on the phone for like 30 minutes with them to fight it and they were like "well it's already posted to your bank account so we can't help you, sorry." Now thankfully, we refinanced so we don't have to pay mortgage this month and next so we will finagle our way through this mess. We're using that credit card for groceries and such but since we're backing off on eating out and don't have to put the mortgage on it, we will actually be in a slightly better spot as far as debt is concerned. Mostly. I'm still a smidge short on taxes but tbh I'm always short on taxes but hopefully between the credit I get for Mr. Right's tax refund and the stuff I write off, I'll be okay.

 

Though I'm salty we couldn't put BOTH mortgages aside for our 2021 disney trip, we at least get one. 

 

I feel so much better today too! Slept for like 9-10 hours and caught up, plus had a productive morning that set me up for success this morning.

Wowwie wow week 1 was a DOOZY. Our internet issues threw me for a loop. I was basically working the same hours as my husband, and I'm used to working 6 hour days. NOT 10+. Heck.

 

But tomorrow they're going to fix it (again) and we since discovered the breakage occurred because our last tech was L A Z Y and apparently incompetent. I'm talking leaving equipment everywhere, not removing hardware when it was replaced and instead just wiring new equipment on and having it hang all over everything, wiring around our absolutely vital grounding, not burying our cable and instead leaving it in the yard for our lawn guy to run over, and, the kicker, leaving the caps off our surge protectors so that rain got in one and fried the protector as well as melting the ethernet power cable. Mr. Right is FURIOUS and called them this morning to let them know what we found. 

 

As far as working out... it is what it is. I already restarted this week and did some yoga this morning even though I couldn't get online to dance.  

 

Eating out... I could have done better. But so far this week I already am doing better. And really, all I can ask is improvement. If I improve every week, then I'll be great by the end of the challenge. Mr. Right and I meal prepped yesterday, which was cool. Chicken, bacon, ranch sandwiches with lettuce and tomato. I've got apples and chips for myself. He's going to share my fruit and also has cliff bars for work.

 

Wakeups were a bit sporadic, but my schedule is slowly getting set properly. 

 

My dessert situation is improving. I'm slowly starting to find myself able to say 'no' sometimes. And I'm not jonesing for treats as much, even when I'm exhausted or frustrated.

Hey Hi Hellooooooo

 

So yesterday morning I bit the bullet and weighed myself because I knew that if I didn't, I'd freak out about it. I've been worrying that I gained back a bunch. Come to find out, most of that was just being bloated from eating so much fast food and such. I've actually only gained back about 6lbs or so after having quit keto. 

 

Thankfully, our internet got fixed yesterday, so I'll be at home more and cook more. I did a little bit of yoga yesterday, knowing that I wouldn't have time to do dancing after the internet was fixed. It wasn't much, but it got me moving. 

 

I did sleep in a bit today. I gave myself some grace thanks to being up more than hoped last night. I've definitely been sleeping better, but I'm thinking of swapping away from melatonin if possible. I don't want my body to get dependent on external melatonin considering my problem isn't melatonin production (I don't think..?)

 

So far the eating out business is a lot better than it was, the exercise stuff is improving, and so is my sleep schedule. I'll take improvement :)

whenever I quit keto I get really bloated, but it turns out its mostly waterweight. Feeling you... :)

I actually quit keto back in.... May? Ish? I did it for just over 2 months and lost about 20lbs. It just wasn't sustainable for me. Unfortunately for my sanity, it's been a long couple of months.

Hey guys, what's up?

 

Last week was pretty decent. My restaurant eating was cut down by half, and I'm hoping that this week will be back at max goal. Now that may not be the case - I'm going to a wedding on Saturday that's just badly timed enough that I may need food (I can't stay for the reception, that 1 car life). Starting to get back in the swing of things with my movement too. I think this week will be my first 3x/week workout week.

I found a place that does dancing workouts in my town and I'm going to schedule a class! I'm so excited. I'm planning on scheduling one for tomorrow morning. I'll keep you guys posted and let you know how it goes. 

 

This week I've also put a schedule together for my meals. I got off of it already though, I forgot to pull out my meat for today to thaw yesterday so it could live in the crock pot. Oh well though, I'm cooking tomorrow instead. We have enough food to not worry about it. 

 

Today is most definitely going to be interesting as far as work is concerned... I peeked at my emails and we have an angry email from a client that is ALWAYS sending angry emails and I'm going to have to deal with it. 

 

Also, I think I'm starting to develop a dry eye issue. My contacts are constantly blurry, even though I just changed them. I know they soak for long enough, and at my age there's no reason why my prescription should change enough for there to be an issue. Ugh. Off to go dig up some drops....

Y'ALL. I AM SO HYPE

 

This morning I got up at 5 in the heckin AM to go to a 6am club-style dance class. It was SO WORTH IT. I'm tired as f r i c k   but I'm super hype. Gonna be living off hype and caffeine today for sure. It was intense enough that I was worked HARD but not so intense that I felt like I couldn't get it. I felt very welcomed there too :)

 

I even got started working earlier than usual (though I'm about to take a 5 min break to get my contacts out because my eyes are dry again. Hopefully I'll have the chance to grab some drops today. I would have done it earlier, but gone are the days of the 24 hour Walmart (RIP) so I have nowhere to go at 7am for eye drops and hairties and hotdog buns. 

 

Now on to work, gotta get through 5 million social media accounts and 3 phone call meetings today and I've only got 6 hours.

Still hype about that dance class but I'm S O R E. I was stubborn enough to work through when I didn't want to but not so stubborn to work beyond my capabilities. Thank goodness for my inhaler though, I'd have been ragged without that. 

 

I slept in later than my goals were really indicating, but I needed the extra rest after the previous day. I set my alarm for 9, then woke up at 8:30 and decided to reset for 9:30. I got up at that alarm and reset for 10... but I decided to get up 10 minutes later than that reset instead. I needed extra rest but that was taking it further than it needed to go. 

 

Today is going to be a rest day, then I'll work out again on Friday (because I may not have time tomorrow). 

 

OH! I cooked dinner yesterday too. Crock pot venison BBQ, southern style green beans, and cheesy corn. Actually really decent for us but absolutely delicious.
