Hatter vs Hatter

Recommended Posts

Guys, it's finally happening.

       vs Bad Hatter

For realz this time. It's time to win a challenge. I feel stagnant and I need to start moving forwards and not let myself get dragged down to the pit of work doom. Here are the rules - basically there are no rules. I will give myself ±1,3,5 points (or however many I see fit) every day in the following categories (which I might change)

Fitness

Diet

Art

Business

Misc (e.g. getting out of bed in the morning, adulting, social media)

based entirely on what I feel like I deserve given the circumstances of the day (e.g. laziness, procrastination, number of spoons, busyness, mutual exclusion). The game is to 1) come out on top each day, and 2)  improve my weekly score. If I fail to stay accountable it means an automatic 5 point deduction.

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.

Alright let's begin! Yesterday's scores.

Fitness +5 I didn't feel like training BUT I continued with the pole leg hang training. Go me! The problem here is that between the 40 minute active flex warm up followed by the technical drills on floor I was already too tired for the pole! I feel so unfit these days. 😭I only made a few reps up on the pole, but they were interesting because they started from a "bad" invert on purpose. It's cool though because actually it opens up more possibilities for entering the position which still look nice rather than use brute force.

Diet -1: Fancy nutella straight out of the jar happened. More than was strictly necessary. (Which it absolutely was, at first). But I had two proper meals with veggies and everything and that were not sandwiches. So there's that.

Art +1: Nothing interesting, some back to basics practice.

Business 0: Not on the agenda for the day.

Misc -1: Procrastination was running hiiigh, BUT I forced myself to cook AND cleaned my kitchen. Admittedly the latter was during a work meeting so it could still be seen as a negative, but I'd rather see it as efficient use of my time. 😉

Love this! I was actually thinking of doing something similar this challenge, in the just giving myself a score on how I thought it went. That way you stop and evaluate how it's going without having a strict having to track rule

Yeah! Considering how badly I'm doing at rules might as well try this. :P

Oh this is good, excellent :)

A bit like the positive actions list but with a nod to acknowledging the balance?

Something like that, except that the positive actions need to be productive. :P

So I should probably do an update. Things have not been going as well as I'd like. Work is becoming a huge problem. As in opening up my laptop in the morning fills me with existential dread because the work feels so utterly pointless and boring. I desperately need to find ideally a way to get out, or at least temporarily a way to not let work moods get in the way of life, and instead use it as a call to action. I just need to figure out how when my energy gets so sapped. 😕

On the plus side, TGIF!!! 🎉

As for goals:

Diet: Many garbage days, but I feel like it's on the upswing now! I really need to do more cooking again, with more variety as I've gotten really bored with food. @PaulG was super helpful in sharing really tasty looking quick recipes so I'm going to explore those this challenge!

Training: Terrible. Whenever I go climbing I get excited that I'm able to climb a little harder and it's super fun. I get a boost and think that yeah, this is awesome I love it, and I really do want to get stronger and better again! And then I get home and I get sore for the next 3 days and so very lazy and then I don't do anything until the next time I go climbing, around a week later.🤷‍♀️I don't like it.

There's a brand new, literally opened this week, climbing training gym that's opened 15 minutes walk from my house, and I'm considering joining. I'm not strong enough to train for climbing, and TBH I don't even particularly want to take it that seriously. But I think it might really help to have a place where I could go and train that's not my flat that I could work into a routine. I need to check it out first, and see how much space there is and see if I could for example do handstands and what the gym equipment is like.

Art: This is going ok ish, I'm doing at least something most days, though it hasn't been feeling very productive. Sometimes I don't recognize that I'm getting stuck/bored with one exercise for example, and instead of switching to something else I procrastinate. There's a lot value in fighting through something, but not if it's because I'm getting bored.

Here's a warm up sketch, not because it's particularly good, but because it features some of my new favorite insects - bag worms and tree hoppers. They're so cool! 😍

Insects.jpeg.d13631b5dc380497cc3f1dfb14f7f7a5.jpeg

Business: This is going terribly, but I'm trying to make it more of a priority because it's important.

Misc: Too much unproductive procrastination in general.

On the plus side, there's plenty of room for improvement! 😄😉

I'm also trying to find the balance between not tooo punishing and impossible to dig myself out of, but also to give me a kick in the butt if I see too many days in a row without doing anything in a category. So the scoring's a bit different in zero week and week 1, but here it is for transparency.

What is the difference between procrastination and resting? 😛

I realize you probably meant it as a joke, but I kind of like that you pivot to the positive of, "okay, I can improve on..." rather than focusing on the negative side of procrastinating too much.
