Anim Ninja's in Late

Late as usual, but getting there.

Goals are fluid right now as I work on my motivation to move more and eat better.  And work on house projects and costumes.

I did finally finish the Little Witch and Wizard costumes, though I don't know when we'll be wearing them now.

So my fiancee didn't feel like putting on pants to get the mail one day and instead wrapped her witch robe around her pajamas.  Apparently the one neighbor who was out got a kick out of it.

Didn't realize how long I've gone without an update, so here's what I finished today (ignore the disintegrating lounge chair, it'll get fixed at some point):

Tomorrow I need to mow and see about putting rock around the firepit and two more flower beds by the garden, then decide if I have enough rock to finally finish putting it around the house.

Is that calendula, staying all neat and tidy in its own bed? If so, you sir are a miracle worker. Or it's first-year calendula, in which case I have something unpleasant to tell you.

The seed pack didn't tell us which variety of marigold it is, but we aren't expecting any of them to stay in the flower beds next year.  Plus I have couple wildflower mixes that I'm planning to reseed with this fall to fill in the bare patches in the yard.  I'm not a fan of the "traditional" lawn, mostly because of the amount of work required to maintain it.  So I'm trying for a more "natural" amalgamation of different grasses, weeds, wildflowers, and ground covers that will be better able to take care of itself and stay green most of the year without watering or special fertilizers.  It won't look as nice as a manicured lawn, but I was never going to put in the work for that anyway.  And I'd rather have honeybees and butterflies and songbirds than flat grass.

So far we've spotted 4 blue jays, 3 cardinals, a hummingbird, a half dozen different types of finch and sparrow, pigeons, and 6 or 8 different squirrels at our feeders.

Plus Speedy will be able to eat most of the yard, making it easier to keep her fed and happy too.

As someone with a "not pretty" biodiverse lawn, it is super cool to watch the bees and pollinators come visit. And even nicer when you watch your neighbors struggle to water, mow, weed, edge, etc. while you're being lazy, letting nature do its thing.

The yard is coming along slowly.  I meant to work on it some more and take pictures yesterday, but ended up mowing the neighbor's yard to help out instead.  And then it was Florida out, so I retreated to the AC and got nothing else done.  So I'll be working on that after work sometime this week and post pictures in my next challenge.
