Terah - 75 Hard

Terah

Recommended Posts

How is it that every time I want to jump back on the forums the challenge has almost ended? I just decided to ignore that fact this time and post anyway.

Since last time I got back to exercising and eating healthier (nothing extreme). Summer vacation is almost over so it's time to get a good plan and get back to business!

I just stumbled across #75hard. And as much as it sounds crazy, it might just be crazy enough to work :D

There are 5 rules:

  • Follow a diet
  • Workout twice a day
    • I had started with Cloe Ting's workouts, which I love. So I'll follow one of her programs for the first workout, and do yoga/stretching/mobility work on the rest days.
    • And for the second workout I'll go for a walk [edit] EXCEPT when I'm home alone with the kids and the weather is bad.
  • Drink a gallon of water each day (about 3 liters)
    • I've actually been doing this for the last two months, and it's not that hard, but I do need to pay attention
  • Read 10 pages of non-fiction a day.
    • I have a few books I still need to finish and have ordered a few in the library. I really like this goal actually, I might actually learn stuff :D
  • Take a progress photo every day
    • This will be the hardest. I hate taking photo's of myself. I'll definitely not be sharing them 😛

I have made an awesome chart in my bullet journal (which I have been using a lot, see I didn't sit on my but the time I wasn't here ;) )

I like the way you've broken it down. Doesn't seem so impossible anymore :)  Best of luck!

Tuesday

I did good today.

Today was Cory's birthday. The little divo turned 8 :) We already celebrated last weekend (no more than 2 visitors at the time, so no one would get sick), but we partied some more today. Played mario party on the switch, put some candles on a donut, and just had fun.

I did want to get in my walk this afternoon, but I was alone with the boys and it was raining a bit. So I printed a neighborhood bingo thing and let them take their umbrella's. They love bingo and love walking with an umbrella (yes, I find that weird too). So we had a good time doing that, until their feet got wet and they wanted to go home. But we still got a good enough walk in.

I do need to think of something else tomorrow, because I doubt they want to play bingo twice in a row... Any suggestions?

Do you have a trampoline? Maybe that could work? It's very difficult to find anything a kid will enjoy doing for 45 minutes...

How about a bike ride? We sometimes send our kids to the store to buy something, and they'll get a bit of extra money to buy something for themselves as well. We have 6 km to the store, so that usually takes them a while :)

Do you have foam swords? I got my nephew walking and running two blocks around the block with an epic sword battle. But something like that might work!

Happy Birthday Cory!

We don't, but it's a good idea to look into! Thanks :)

No trampoline unfortunately, those things are big, and our backyard is small. The only thing they love doing for extended periods of time are games.

A bike ride is not a bad idea, but we do need a goal. The store is 500 meters from our home :D There are good playgrounds a little further out, that could work.

Good idea!

Thanks for all your suggestions, now if it just stopped raining we could actually do those :D

I have decided to mod the challenge a little bit: if the weather is bad AND I have the kids home with no one to watch them I'll do the second workout inside. I do not want to drag them into bad weather if I don't have to. I know the whole challenge is based on being inconvenient to up your mental strength, but I'm not dragging my kids with me if there is no need. The inventor of the challenge also tells us to "use common sense" (in the podcast), which is always a good idea ;)

Aren't your kids old enough to be home alone (together) for 45 minutes while you do your exercise? What if they watch TV for example and you go out and do a bodyweight routine in the garden?

I can see them from the garden, so that would be an option. But all the neighbors can see me in the garden too, which makes me feel real awkward...

I did sent them to the playground today while I walked through the neighborhood (they have gps watches and can call me with those if needed). They called me after 10 minutes that their friends weren't there to play and if we could please do another bingo :D So we did that. Walked around for a good bit before it started to rain again.

Other goals were smashed too today.

Back to the drawing board: my body told me that I cannot do this for a long period of time. It actually felt like I needed to recover after just a few days of this. So here is the new plan (changes in cursive):

The 5 rules:

  • Follow a diet
    • Eat Q will be the new plan of attack. Which is basically intuitive eating.
  • Workout twice a day
    • I had started with Cloe Ting's workouts, which I love. I'll do them for 3 days a week. The other days I'll just make sure I'm moving. Like biking, doing chores, playing with the boys etc.
    • And for the second workout I'll go for a walk [edit] EXCEPT when I'm home alone with the kids and the weather is bad. Which won't happen that often anymore, because SCHOOL HAS STARTED!

So just small changes, but I think this will make a world of difference

Award yourself some bonus points for actually listening to your body and making adjustments. That's not as obvious a thing as it seems,  nor as common as it should be. Kudos to you. :)

The Great Reading Thread of 2023

“I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? You go to the end of the season, then you lose the Super Bowl. Is that failing? To most people, maybe. But when you're picking apart why you failed, and now you're learning from that, then is that really failing? I don't think so." - Kobe Bryant, 1978-2020. Rest in peace, great warrior.
