The Swing of the Axe: Tanktimus Sticks to What Works

Have you looked into the Enneagram at all? He sounds like a type 5.

I hadn't for him, I suspect he's an 8 though. But from my reading those can be mistyped as 5s if they're not handling their 8-ness as well as they could.

I'm a 4 myself, but I think I have a lot of 2 leanings in an unhealthy direction. The first time I tested I mistyped as 2 actually.

I meant 8 but typed 5. I was thinking of the defiance.

I'm a 9.

Today is a day. It isn't bad, but I'm tired. I get home late on Friday and Saturday nights (can't clock out till 2323, get home around 2345), then we stayed up talking. Good talk, but we fell asleep after 1, and the baby got us up at 7. Here I am back at work, about to start a second cup of coffee.

I did cook lunch, fancy melts. I used sliced Italian bread and put shredded cheddar and feta in them, as well as tomato slices seasoned with "Everything Bagel" seasoning, and bacon slices. Instead of buttering the bread, I melted the butter in the skillet and set the bread down in the butter (I decided to follow the recipe and give the technique a shot). I like the effect of buttering the bread itself better, but this method was needed since I was using shredded instead of sliced cheese. They were good, and we had frozen sweet potato fries I heated in the oven for a side.

I like putting bread in the melted butter when the bread is softer, because I never remember to soften my bread and it always shreds my breads. That being said, I prefer buttering the bread too, because it tends to crisp more consistently instead of getting soggy. It's like hot pan meets butter and the reaction happens directly on the bread rather than butter getting a head start.

You know, it'd be fun to read the science behind that!

I hope you sleep a LOT when you get home

Thank you. Real butter can be left out at room temp as long as it is covered. Room temp butter spreads better than anything else, and it stays good. Knowing this and putting it into practice changed my life.

Inversely, attempting to spread refrigerator cold butter on toast is devastatingly depressing.

But you see why the butter gets soft.

Today is a good day.  We had church in the morning, masked the whole time, asked not to congregate  (pun intended) in the halls but to talk outside. Little Bit fussed when we dropped her off in the kid's area, but apparently slept during most of the service. We came home and I went back out to get Whataburger for lunch. For the first time, we ordered something just for the baby, A Whataburger Jr. She seemed to like it. I helped her with some of it :D She was in a really good mood all afternoon, and was so cute and cuddly and happy. It was a special time. We also visited with the neighbor (masked and six feet apart) in the front yard, and let the baby play in the backyard some when she was done. Because it's so awfully hot out here, she hasn't been outside much and we are rectifying that. It felt good to be outside, til it felt hot. She took a nap in the early evening, and I made dinner. I roasted some Brussel Sprouts (I found them already halved; it's such a pain to cut a bunch in half) at 425 for 20 minutes with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and apple cider vinegar. I also boiled some red potatoes I had cut in half and mashed them with milk, butter, feta, parmesan, salt, pepper, parsley and oregano. I also cooked some chicken thighs in avocado oil with salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar.

Before doing any of that, however, I combined some mozzarella pearls with a can of diced tomatoes, some sliced kalamata olives, dried basil, and some balsamic vinegar to be a tapenade over the chicken. It was heavenly.

I also did laundry and dishes.

Today was a good day.

You get sunlight in through the windows, and you shoot the snakes with the guns you get when you move here.

I'm really glad you had a good day, and not too eventful!

our local places have increased their delivery fees. I don't think any of the local places use door dash... The increase is significant, but not unfair, in my opinion. But we also tend to pick up, because sometimes it's just like you want to support businesses, but you also got to support your family.

By the way calling all this "Uncertain Times" is such a brilliant idea on your part. I often use it as a blanket term with my family when any of us are having a bad day, and it's become a part of our language. "In these Uncertain Times, it's perfectly okay to not be okay." Thank you for thinking of something better to say than "this shitstorm of a year"

The Uncertainty does feel like an atmospheric phenomenon in which fecal matter flies chaotically.

Today is a good day. I did Kbs in the morning, stopping during the swings on the second round. I pushed myself hard, and as I like to say, how often you swing the KBs is more important than how heavy they are or how long the session is. I picked up dinner again. I got home from work tired and we were both hangry and frustrated, and I almost had a meltdown while we were trying to figure things out.

The fact you focused on figuring things out in that situation is proof you two have a good relationship. There is no law thatt says you have to cook every day, just because that's what you normally do. Avoiding a meltdown is a lot more important.

Today is a good day. I had my physical exam today. Normally that would have been done when I got the labs done earlier in the year, but with the rona screwing everything up well...

The good news is My blood pressure is exactly in the target range, so the doctor has declared my Blood Pressure controlled. We are at the appropriate level of meds. She said to monitor periodically, as increased fitness or more weight loss could mean my BP would lower naturally and we might be able to pull back on the meds. My next bloodwork will be in January to check the A1C and pre-diabetes issue. I also got a flu shot.

I got some stretching in during the day.

Dinner was good. The side was roasted romaine salad. It's very simple and tasty. You cut romaine in half lengthwise and arrange it on a baking sheet cut side up, then drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Into the oven at 425 for 10 minutes. Chop it when it comes out, add parmesan and dressing. You can also grill the romaine if you desire and the grill is already in use for something else.

The main dish was chicken thighs cooked in avocado oil with salt and pepper. Don't fret if that seems to simple, there's more. I toasted some oats and chopped pine nuts in some olive oil with italian seasoning and added honey when things were getting toasty. It topped the chicken and was very good.
