Big_Show
Welcome to my second challenge as a Warrior! It's going to be pretty much the same goals as my first one, as not much has changed since then: 1) Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 Boring but Big programme 3 times a week - I'm aiming for keeping consistency with these workouts now I'm starting to make progress. 2) Accumulate at least 49,000 steps for the week (7,000 daily) - I easily smashed this target last time round, but circumstances will be different this time so I want to keep the focus on it. 3) Keep total calories to +/-1000 of my weekly calorie total (exact figure depends on my weight that week) - I managed this for a couple of weeks last time, but the other two were well over so I want to see if I can manage this for the entire challenge this time round. LQ) Find a job - I've been putting a lot of energy into finding a job since my industry kinda collapsed during lockdown, and I need to keep this effort up. There aren't any massive family events or public holidays this time round to get in the way of my challenge, but we are moving house in the middle of it so I'll have that to work around. Plus I continue to live in hope that I'll find a job to start ASAP, so then I'll have to fit my goals round that again. It's a problem I look forward to having! 6 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Monday weight: 118.7kg - lasagne for dinner last night 😋 Sunday steps: 7803 (12,226 over target for the week) - storming it this week! Sunday calories: 3194 (1784 over target for the week) - we headed out for a couple of pints in the afternoon as beer garden weather is coming towards an end, and they of course turned into three. Should be able to get this back within range by the end of Tuesday though. As I tweaked my left hamstring at the end of last week I've decided to give it a good rest and only do upper body workouts for the next couple of weeks then start up the next cycle after we move house, so I'm just going to alternate the Week 1 workouts for military press & bench press until then. So today was my Military Press workout, but despite being very motivated when I got there it was very much a day where they had rudely turned the gravity up as I couldn't seem to really manage the lifts. The work sets were: 30kg x5 35kg x5 37.5kg x5+ (I did 6) - these were far more of a struggle than I expected. Then the accessory DB presses & the barbell rows were all way too heavy as well despite me managing them fine last time round. So in the end I just wrote it off as one of those days, did what reps I could of them both, then did multiple sets of broceps curls to get a bit of a pump on as I was still enjoying myself anyway 💪🐻 Tomorrow will be a rest day so I've mapped myself out a nice long walk to get a decent number of steps in before I get on with the rest of the day. Other than that, it's time to go hunt around and see where everybody's new threads are hiding! 3 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Tuesday weight: 119.3kg - lots of potatoes in last night's dinner? Monday steps: 6620 (11,846 over target for the week) - not quite at the target, but I knew what was coming... Monday calories: 2191 (1386 over target for the week) - that's the surplus halved, just need to get the rest of it done today now. This morning I got up and headed on a nice little trek across the local countryside - 2hrs, 6.2 miles, 11,746 steps, and 1490 calories later, I think I'll make good use of my sofa for a lot of the rest of the day. Might finally be time to catch up on the weekend's rugby highlights. Looking forward to getting back into the gym for tomorrow's bench press session. Considering I never used to like it before, it's definitely grown on my since I started doing this programme! 4 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Big_Show
Wednesday weight: 117.3kg - last night's dinner was just meat & veggies (with sauce). Guess that makes a different. Tuesday steps: 17,677 (21,923 over target for the week) - that walk really did the trick! Possibly was also a factor in today's weight too... Tuesday calories: 2171 (968 over target for the week) - got back within my +/-1000 calorie range so I'm pleased with that! Still managed to sneak a couple of cheeky gin & tonics into the calorie count for the day too. That's the end of my Wednesday-Tuesday counting week (it works for me, just go with it). Hit all my goals, and the daily weight chart I've been keeping since my July 1st Respawn now looks like this: Lots of variation, but thet trendline is still heading down, so that's what matters. Plus I'm noticing shirts starting to hang a bit funny as if they're too big, even though my weight's not dropping as fast any more, so I'll take that! Got some really good shirts & t-shirts that I really want to fit into again, plus some sweaters etc. for when the weather starts getting cooler that I haven't been able to wear for a few years now. This morning was the weekly grocery shop, and then it was off to the gym for bench press day. Thankfully the gravity had been reset to normal since Monday - the work sets were: 45kg x5 50kg x5 57.5kg x5+ (I did 7) Then the DB bench press with 2x17.5kg DB was hard work again, and I had to split the 5x10 into multiple lower sets. I nearly managed the 5x10 bent-over row with a 20kg DB but had to split the last few sets - feeling confident that I'll get that one soon enough. Other than that it's back to the jobsites and pottering round the house taking care of a few chores. Nice & sunny here today, but for some reason I'm not that motivated to go for another long walk yet... 5 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Went out for nice little walk first thing this morning as today's main exercise, and that should have nicely made up for yesterday's step deficit. We've got a couple of other short walks planned for lunchtime and then this evening, so that should take care of today's target too. In other news, I have a job interview for this afternoon that would involve working from home, so I'm getting nervous about that but I've also done plenty of preparation so I feel pretty good that I can give a account of myself in it. So here's me admitting that this evening's walk is us going to the pub to help me calm down after it... 😅🍻 7 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time. Thanks - the interview went really well! I felt I gave a good account of myself and it appears they must have to, as this morning the phoned me at 8:30am to offer me the job! Just got to get the referencing etc. done now, then they'll give me a start date to drive over and collect my remote working equipment, computer logins etc. so I can start! Hopefully that'll all be within a couple of weeks at most, and then I can crack on! Friday weight: 116.8kg - another weight reading in the 116s, that's good to see! Thursday steps: 15,131 (3318 overder target for the week) - after the interview I walked down to the shop to treat myself to an ice cream and calm down a bit, then after the Welshman finished work we walked down to the pub for a celebratory pint, so my step count was very healthy by the end of the day! Thursday calories: 3102 (425 over target for the week) - beers & wine took me over for the day. I regret nothing. After that bit of excitement and the subsequent phone calls to tell my family about it all, I finally headed off to the gym mid-morning. It was the military press workout again, and today felt soooo much better than it did on Monday! My work sets were: 32.5kg x3 37.5kg x3 40kg x3+ (I did 5) - pleased with this, as after Monday's workout I thought I was heading for a deload already! Looks like fingers crossed I should make it at least one more cycle before that happens now. First accessory was 5x10 standing DB press @ 2x10kg which also went much better - still had to split the sets, but less so this time round. The other accessory was 5x10 barbell row @ 35kg - again, split sets, but better again. To round off (and celebrate) I treated myself to another round of sets of broceps curls at the end. Felt like I got a nice pump on! For the rest of the day I'm just kind of pottering round and ticking odd jobs off my list, then it's on with more packing! Definitely the theme of the weekend! 5 1 Quote Big Show: Human Swift Hunter Respawning. One day at a time.
