Raptron Doesn't Look Back at Explosions

(I made a joke about looking cool while walking away from the tractor tires I was flipping for a conditioning workout on Saturday, and a friend photoshopped some explosions for me. It is AWESOME. Hahahha.)

Hi Assassins! It's Raptron, your somewhat lapsed gymnast GL who is still lucky to be able to lift and otherwise leave the house. This is going to be a pretty straight forward challenge unless I wind up going wild on the TBD goal below. I could try to bring back more intentional hand balancing practice, start trying to regain some flexibility, order takeout less... there are certainly many things I could chase, I'm just not sure what is going to really draw me this time around.

1. LIFT: get stronger 3-4 times per week ( 💪)

2. RUN: run 2x per week (I keep failing here!)

3. BIKE: bike 1x per week as a way to get somewhere or just for fun (winter is coming)

4. GYMNASTICKY: train gymnastics related skills and abilities 2x per week

No, you? That would be so uncharacteristic of you.

what does the coming winter have to do with bike riding?

WELLL, when the roads are fine, I have no problem with winter biking. But bike lanes often get the snow plowed into them (or dug out from the parked cars), so there would have to be more riding directly in with the cars (which I don't really like very much) instead of protected bike lane riding. Plus, we usually get a lot of melting and refreezing which means we get rogue patches of ice. I'll have to play it by ear, but I anticipate riding my bike less.

Zero Week:

I lifted on Tuesday and did a jog and circuit workout on Wednesday in the morning again with co-workers. Thursday, I went for a jog during lunch. Friday, I did an 8 mile sunrise hike that was not super challenging but very fun -- it was my friend's bday wish to do this hike. No one wanted to do much more real hiking the rest of the weekend 🙁, but there was lots of rock hopping and exploring Acadia National Park. Saturday night, we spent 2 hours stargazing, watching the Milky Way from a sandy cove. IT WAS SOOOO GREAT.

Ahh that makes sense! We don’t really get enough snow to plow it I guess, they just toss salt on it here.

Okay, so we've officially started -- and I start on Mondays, so I figured I best populate that mystery goal. We're going to go for an all-purpose "gymnastics" goal. I have been neglecting any sort of upside-down tomfoolery and ANYTHING gymnastics related for about the last month. So, we're going to ease back into it. Any kind of bridge training, split training, upper back mobility, extended hip mobility, handstand practice (>20 minutes), or actual gymnastics practice (we have training slots available on the weekends at the far away gyms that I could get a ride to sometime), it counts toward the GYMNASTICKY goal.

Day 1.1

It has been officially 6 months of mostly working from home, so I feel as though I can stop counting the weeks like they matter. 😛

I tried to go lift yesterday but the gym was at capacity. Like, TRULY at capacity. I just turned around and left... We have not yet implemented the sign up system I proposed, but this is not the first time it's reached the max capacity in recent weeks -- the owners keep accepting new members, which I am not very happy about. I'm pretty sure I can get the owners to at least trial the time slot registration system, but I'm not confident the gym members will adopt it well. I'm worried about people blocking off every day/time they want to work out in advance, which would be going against the spirit of the system... and also not feel very fair. But the current show up and hope there's room system doesn't work very well either.

I optimistically thought I might bike over around 9:30 pm or so, but I was torn because I wanted to get up early on Tuesday for the 6:30 am coworker HIIT workout...

INSTEAD I DID NEITHER. HA, TAKE THAT SELF. 🤦‍♀️This is a recurring problem with how I structure my weeks, though -- if I wind up having to skip a workout one night, it has cascading effects on my plans and I have to scramble to try to fix them. For example, if I went to HIIT this am, I would presumably not have a very good lifting workout today but I WANT to have a good lifting workout, so I'm going to lift today and do HIIT tomorrow instead (we're introducing a Wednesday pm workout!)-- but I'm also maybe going to try to lift before the HIIT workout because I want to get back on schedule so I can actually hit all 4 lifting workouts this week. 🙃

However, Monday night I did cook up a bunch of food and make a lot of progress editing my friend's mom's VERY overdue manuscript. I am going to finish it this week. I will stop being a bad friend and get it back to her so she can review her own mother's second draft. 😅

LIFT: 0/4 weight sessions

RUN: 0/2 jogging or cardio sessions

BIKE: 0/1 bike trips

GYMNASTICKY0/2 gymnastics activities

Day 1.2

I took a little nap and went to the gym at 8:30 pm, trying to avoid the immediate post-work rush, which meant I wrapped a bit after 10pm. I actually like going later if I don't have other plans. It's more likely that I can snag control of the music. 😏

Deadlifts: 4 x 3 x 305#

Deficit deadlifts: 4 x 3 x 275#

Bench: 2 x 8 x 135#, 2 x 6 x 145#, 2 x 4 x 152.5#

Dips: 4 x 8

DB Rows: 4 x 8 x 50#

Scap push-ups: 4 x 12

It's been almost a week since I last lifted, so these felt a bit rusty, but the later sets felt better than the earlier sets. My knees pulled a bit weird on one of the sets of deficits -- I maybe hyperextended a little or was a bit shifted over one hip. They feel fine today though. 🤷‍♀️

LIFT: 1/4 weight sessions

RUN: 0/2 jogging or cardio sessions

BIKE: 0/1 bike trips

GYMNASTICKY0/2 gymnastics activities

Today: lift + cardio + TOP GUN at the drive-in 😁

Th: jog + handstands/flex work

F: lift + dinner w/lifting friends

Sa: tough hike with GC probably! (but y'all know, he's a flake)

Su: lift + handstand or flex work

I’m just going to assume that this is a euphemism, based on every American movie ever featuring a drive-in. 😄

It's an actual thing, I swear, hahah. 😝There is an absurd, sprawling, palatial Chinese restaurant in one of the nearby suburbs that is doing movie screenings with drive-up and outdoor seating. And I think live music and comedy shows? They're trying to make the best of things for sure.

HIIT? Since when do you HIIT? :D

(ok ok I know you keep getting lured in by the cardio promises and do things like run up and down stairs, but I havent seen things like that recently apart from the running?)
