Terah - Finding balance

Hey guys, glad to be back with the Druids. It's been a few challenges :)

So last challenge I jumped in in the last 2 weeks and got in way over my head. 75 Hard is not for me, my body and mind did not like it and both started throwing fits 😛 But it did gave me inspiration for a new challenge. So here it is:

Move

Do 3 training sessions a week that take at least 45 minutes (including warming up and cooling down). That can be anything from strength training, walking, running, dancing etc. If everything goes according to plan I'll start my dancing lessons again in October!

Eat

Just eat, no restrictions. No trying to cut calories or food groups. Just focus on what my body needs and asks for in the moment and try to chose the best option in the moment. Since I feel best eating mostly unprocessed foods and homemade stuff that will be the majority. But if I ever crave a cookie I will have the damn cookie, because I'm an adult and I can do this :D

Read

Read at least 10 pages 3 times a week from a non-fiction book. I really liked this one from the 75 hard challenge, so I like to continue it without stressing about it. 3 Times a week is really doable, and if I want to read more I can.

Let's do this!

The twin thing they did with Michael was brilliant genius and I'm very curious to see that dynamic play out. Also hoping very much that Azrael and Remiel return for at least one episode each.

Last week I did my reading and workout on Friday. Food is going really well too. I am noticing that I crave food when I'm stressed. Now I just need to find a way to deal with the stress that is more constructive. Writing todo list in my bujo is working really well for this. And just breathing too. Now I just need to remember to do this.

e3a9e02651a9b289dc3b1233bef7afe1.gif

I also found a way to make doing chores more interesting: I downloaded zombies run earlier this month, ran once, found out that it hurt my feet and shins, didn't run anymore. But now I use the app while I'm cleaning. Pretending to clean those nasty zombies away :D I put it on steady pace, and a duration of 1 hour. It makes it a lot more fun.

I'm struggling with this too. I find I'm getting better at catching myself reaching for the food so by the time it's in my hand I can decide why I want to eat it. But sometimes I forget and that's why all the cookies are gone. :) I hope your breathing and list writing works better!

I don't run easily anymore either, this is a very neat solution! Well done!

So last night a random thought made me really sad. My first instinct was to grab a snack and suppress it. But I remembered that it's okay to feel sad sometimes, even if it makes no logical sense. So I faced my demons head on, and lo and behold: the feeling passed rather quickly, leaving me feeling calm and accomplished.

giphy.gif

After that I was actually feeling pretty hungry, so I asked google for a healthy snack and made the first thing it recommended. Because my brain was exhausted from this and I didn't want to make my own decision 😛

It was popcorn with curry and paprika powder. It was delicious :D

Any kind of seasoned salt works well too. Garlic salt is a personal favorite of mine.

It is amazing that you were able to put the need for a snack out of the way and focus on the actual issue! That is very hard to do, and I know things like that in the evening are harder for me.

I will have to try that topping on my popcorn, sounds yummy!

Also - I LOVE MAZE! ❤️

Things have been going really well. I've aced my challenge goals.

My workouts were starting to get boring, so I started a couch to 5k. I've never run before, so this is a challenge, and so far I'm liking it :)

After two of those couch to 5k workouts my hips and neck/shoulders where killing me. I could barely function yesterday. So I decided to give it a rest and do a ringfit workout this morning. I had a lot of fun doing it :D And now my body is not hurting anymore.

I don't know if I should try to continue to run, or just let it go for now. Is it normal for your muscles in your hips and neck area to hurt after running? Will it pass when I'm more used to it? I hope someone here knows, because I don't.

Next weekend we'll be celebrating Peter's 10th birthday. I can't believe he's almost 10 already... Where does the time go?! I mean, he's still a tiny boy (just 1.28 cm or 4ft2), but he's getting OLD now 😧

It's a whole weekend of celebrating, because we don't want too many guests at once in this pandemic. He loves this idea (we did the same with Cory last month), and I loved that we could talk to them individually and play games with them, but the whole thing was exhausting :D

The weekend after this one we'll have his kids party (secret agent style), and then we can relax until the december holidays start up again.

Are you spacing out your run days? Don't push too hard at first, running can be difficult.

I started when Nerd Fitness did the 5k challenge, and have never run before that. A good friend gave me great advice, always keep telling yourself to run easy, don't outpace yourself or try to always go fast.

I was using the couch to 5k app for getting into running, I was all kinds of sore after it. I didn't realize the lungs and torso would hurt me as much as they did, weird cramps and stuff.

I didn't have any neck or hip pain though. You might need to look at your shoes and running stance. They affect your stride/footfalls.
There is some pretty good advice in this NF article: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/running-properly/

Pain in the hips isn't that uncommon, but the neck may require some form checks, possibly a medical professional.

Keep kicking ass!
