Snarky tries again

There were two big events today in my neck of the woods today. One was a mile near our house where the local market was having an Oktoberfest and the parking lot was packed. no one was wearing masks and they were all really close to each other.  The second was at the racetrack about 10 minutes from our house, and it was packed with tailgaters, campers, and no one was social distancing or wearing masks there either.

I saw these things on the way to the grocery store, and decided to stock up on non-perishable and frozen foods. Got some toilet paper while I was there too. I will be really surprised if we don't see a covid spike in our township soon, and when the panic shopping begins, my family can stay home.

When I got home, I drank a shot of tequila. I know I'm not drinking much right now, but I was freaking out about the crowds and tequila will kill germs :)  But I hadn't eaten for 6 hours so I was DRUNK. My mother made me dinner and my dad got me a lot of water. I feel a lot better now, but man, I learned a lesson, yeah?

It was a good day, though. I've got a good family, and we can afford to build a stockpile in our pantry, and also, there are cookies.  Any day with cookies is a pretty good one.

Habit-wise,  I eat sitting down at the table and I eat a LOT slower. I had to eat slow with the tooth pain, and now I just do it. This was a big change for me. I eat a lot less this way, and feel really satisfied at the end of a meal because I wasn’t distracted or just rushing through it.

In regards to what I eat, I am drinking probably twice the water I used to, I was definitely not drinking enough before.  I eat more eggs and dairy because they were soft proteins but now I like them because they are less salty and more filling than eating a sandwich. Half of my diet is fruits and vegetables now.

things I eat less of are cold cuts, sandwiches, and pasta, candy.  and salty snacks. I also have less caffeine and alcohol, just because it didn’t react well with the steroids. I still eat cookies and bread, because I’m not dead :D

I figured steroids are an anti-inflammatory and my body reacted pretty well to the second set, so maybe I should be eating in a way that supports reducing inflammation.  But the test is, will I keep losing weight now that I’m not taking steroids? I think so. We’ll find out next Friday!

Wow, those are some really great changes! Your body is going to love you for this ❤️

I really don't understand the fuss around bread. As long as it is whole grain, it's healthy stuff, right?

I'm sure you're right. I was thinking specifically about my mom's homemade breads and sweeties. sometimes they're whole grain, and sometimes they're not. She loves to bake, and I love to eat what she makes :)

Today is a day of celebration for I am putting the slouchy shorts in the donation pile! I can fit into some of my old clothes again, and I am SO THRILLED. Now I am down to two boxes in the attic of clothes that are too small for me and I think I'll be able get into the clothes in box 1 this winter. Box 2 contains favorite skinny clothes, and I'm not sure I'll ever get into them, but I'm thinking maybe in a year if ever. Some of those clothes are from when I was 140 pounds which is about 20 pounds too little from my happy weight, but I keep them because I think "They may look great on fit me vs. skinny me." know what I mean? and if they don't, I'll hug them and donate them at the right time.

You know what I am so tired of? Conference/Work/special occasions slacks and sweaters. Black slacks and their business/smart casual sisters in the trouser department. I mean, see all these below?  I mean they are perfectly acceptable, a little boring, outfits for any sort of occasion, but this has been my uniform for any event for years. I'm tired of it. "Oh these are my fancy black slacks. they have extra buttons!"  Ugh. I'm so done with this uniform, and am looking forward to buying interesting clothes when the world opens up again and we're all vaccinated :D

Nothing stopping you from wearing interesting clothes at home

VERY TRUE. But I have enough clothes now. The thought process that I don't always clearly outline because I assume y'all are mindreaders goes like this:

Continue to lose weight, donate clothes that are too big. THEN buy new and interesting clothes that are not the uniform. And to be honest, there's NOTHING wrong with those outfits. They're practical, classic, and dress up or down easily. I think I've been wearing a variation of it for....15 years? I'm ready for something new! YES! BRING ON THE NEWWWWW

Its good workout motivation. :D

I resemble this remark. I have about 5 pairs of various sizes of black slacks, and all the sweaters to layer over the shirts...

I have a dress I want so bad, that I’m pretty sure I’d walk and extra 600 miles to make it worth the wait.

I'm here and alive. I did not get eaten by spiders.

I've been walking. And that's about it. I know I need to get back to the exercises that made me feel lean and strong, but y'all. I am TIRED.

Other than that, I'm knitting pumpkins and finishing a commission for a lovely client. And that's about all.

Things are getting tense around here as more people are know someone who tested positive for covid, and flu season is coming up. I'm tense and anxious too. But no one is mean, just tense. it's interesting.

Well, I hate everything and I'm going to relax after a morning at the grocery store. Be well and hugs from afar!

So REST. Don't exercise yet. Focus on nutrition to make your body heal. Exercise is only like 10% of the equation anyways.

I actually just read an article in the newspaper saying that covid will make flu season less severe than other years. Possible reasons for that, they listed: due to covid people are being more hygienic, wearing masks, keeping distance and such. When there is already a virus going round people's antibody's are already on the alert, so flu doesn't have much of a chance. And people that would get severely sick from the flu are most likely already killed by covid. This last point is a sad one, but valid nonetheless.

So no need to get anxious about this, just take care of yourself and  your family ❤️

Walking is good though. Its my compromise. I am slipping on nutrition and need to get back to it

I get nervous because Covid hasnt hit my region yet, but fall festivals and the race track being open... makes me nervous. But the general consensus is after Thanksgiving, we’ll see it go through the community. We have enough that we can isolate at home for a few weeks.

Today was a weigh in day, and I weighed 256.4. So that's about a pound and a half gain, and I'm okay with that. I thought I would gain weight back after steroids, and frankly, it's been a helluva week, y'all.

spoilered for paragraphs about extended family being sick and negativity

Spoiler

Four of my extended relatives have tested positive for covid-19, and my great aunt had a heart attack last weekend. My great aunt's blood sugar was 560 when she was admitted. Oh boy, she is on insulin now. My great aunt is also The Troll Queen, the Worst person ever. No one is surprised this happened to her, and no one is really willing to go out of their way to help her because she's a bit of a con artist and managed to get 15000 dollars out of various relatives once and no one knows what she spent that money on, because her trailer is terrible. It has holes, black mold, and is covered in trash from her hoarding. My mom has been talking to her, and setting firm boundaries that she cannot move in with us, but she still listens and talks. And that's about all we can do for her. We love our Troll Queen, but we know to never invite her in, or offer help. 😕

The family that has Covid so far are all doing well,  and we keep hope that they will remain well and be a part of the group that never really develops serious symptoms. Especially the ones with little kids.  They were pretty careful, but they had work to go to, and even with masks, people can still get it.

There's little I can do for any of them, and I feel frustrated by that. I also feel frustrated in general that as a nation, we've had no clear plan to follow in minimizing the risk of people contracting this illness, and that's just ARGH. Frustrating. Also, the careful family members are getting covid, and the asshats who are traveling and hanging out in crowds are fine, and it just PISSES ME OFF that they're like "oh well!"  Sometimes I want to slap people. THEY ALL GET SLAPS.

It's wearing me down, and I frequently find myself searching for a purpose to get through the days. For now, I've chosen crafts and Christmas shopping. I'm getting everyone slaps for christmas. HERE'S YOUR CHRISTMAS SLAP.

Positive thoughts, Mom and I are back to walking 2 miles easily, and we're working up to 3. It's pretty much the only activity I'm doing right now, but I may change that soon. I think my tiredness is more mental than physical right now. This will pass. It's only temporary.

More positive thoughts. Um...oooh! I think I'm finished with that commission! I'm waiting for the client to approve it, and then I can send the final files he needs. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Um.... what else....Oh I wore these really soft pants today. It was totally a cozy clothes day, and I felt like I was tucked in my bed while I was walking around trying not to actively hate everything :) I love soft fabrics, and it's just really nice to enjoy clothes again.

Well, that's good enough for today. My 9yo nephew visits tomorrow! while he's here, I'm going to focus on what I'm grateful for and not what frustrates me. Actually, it's a good practice for everyday, isn't it? :)

I'm sorry to hear about your family getting ill, and I am sorry to hear about the Troll Queen in general but it definitely sounds like you're all doing the right thing with those firm boundaries. I hope everyone gets better soon and enjoys their festive slap!

Yeah, thank you! Just venting about my frustration with them is very helpful. They really believe its not real. But maybe now they will with the latest news

It’s just wrong that the people who are masking and distancing are getting sick while the ones who are partying at bars are not. Best of luck to your family.

I know! Its mostly location at this point. The ones who got it live closer to cities or college towns. But it will reach my rural family sooner than later if they continue to attend crowded locations. I dont want any of them to get it, I want them to be safe. But they arent going to believe its really a threat until someone they know gwts really sick, and I am NOT volunteering for that role! 🤦‍♀️

the nephew spent the night last night. Yesterday we had a fire in the back and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. He played laser tag with my folks and DnD. Today he did some chores, we made sculpey stuff, and he told me how Daft Punk is totally popular because of the Troll Movie. 😂

My cousin is now crocheting toys for an online shop so I'm donating loads of yarn for her. :D  I am VOWING ON THE SOLEMN HOOF OF THE GREAT YAK that I will NOT buy anymore yarn. My yarn collection went from "Oh this is nice" to "This is crazy" over the last couple of years, and NO MORE.

It was a good weekend! Tomorrow the plumber comes to fix a DIFFERENT leak in the ceiling. (shrugs) The house is about 20 years old, so all the things that wear out in houses are doing that now. Next year we'll need a new roof. It gets overwhelming to look at the list of things, but we are just gonna take them one at a time.

I read this neat quote that said "A to-do list is not living." and it keeps popping up in my head now and then. I love lists, but sometimes I feel like my lists have teeth and are gnawing at me. But this quote reminds me there's more to life than my to-do list, and I really appreciate that idea.

Good night everyone. Or good morning. Whatever. Hi and take care.

I think having lists is a really good idea, but the secret is to not actually give a shit if you complete them or not. Do it for the structure, but don't live or die by them.

Well, since today is going to involve cleaning out the garage and yardwork,  I'm calling vacation done. :D

I read the Trials of Apollo series by Rick Riordan while I was pretending to be on vacation and drank tea and coffee in a comfy chair. And that was the only thing that was really different. I still exercised, cleaned, worked, and did all the things I do during a regular week. It was really nice to make the time to read those books though.

The leaves are turning colors this week and it's pretty. I like this point where there is still some green in with the reds, yellows, and oranges. After that it will be nothing but color and them WHOOMP, all the leaves will come down and it will really smell like fall here.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
