Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family!

Thank you 😊

I like to celebrate *both* Canadian and American Thanksgivings, considering it a right of dual citizenship... but where I am the weather is pretty reliably much nicer in early October than late November!

Today’s plan:

Bodyweight workout 3A

Pull together bio for committee nomination

Write letter for beloved former colleague’s award nomination

Write fellowship reference letter for awesome former student

Run

10 minutes of tidying around the house

Print new piano music, 10 minutes of practice

Writing the letters is work but always makes me happy to realize what great people I’ve been privileged to work with! So an appropriate mood to take me into a weekend of thanksgiving.

If the 10 minutes of tidying or piano become more, that would be great, but baby steps, baby.

Gold stars for yesterday:

kept things collegial and civil during potentially adversarial meeting

took advantage of great fall weather; work phone calls mostly while walking outside, and went for a gossipy walk on the trails with work friend over lunch

easily crushed step goal

started NF app diet level 3, prioritizing TF out of protein

4 day streak of no booze - I think this contributed to having an amazing sleep last night, but it could just have been the cat taking mercy on me

Because accountability is good, even when it’s delayed, Friday’s list!

Bodyweight workout 3A

Pull together bio for committee nomination

Write letter for beloved former colleague’s award nomination

Write fellowship reference letter for awesome former student

Run

10 minutes of tidying around the house

Print new piano music, 10 minutes of practice

Work was ... okay? Good? I got some unconfirmed but potentially very welcome news, checked in with the person who would know for sure but they will no doubt let me twist in the wind until next week sometime! And received advance author copy of a book I contributed to, so between that and the maybe good work news, my concentration was shot by noon. Headed home, got tempted by raspberry sour beers and that is where the wheels came off the day. I mean i stopped at one, but then my mom showed up with a sack of Hallowe’en candy just as we learned that Hallowe’en is probably cancelled this year. We can all see where this is going, right? The only way out of the problem of a big bag of mini chocolate bars is through.

The music printing got done yesterday (Saturday), then I played piano for at least an hour or so. Mostly not songs I am technically learning, I just had a tremendous urge to play ALW (Phantom) so that is basically how I spent the day, and it was awesome in its way.

Scandalously, I did not even leave my property (a couple minutes in the backyard but that is it!!) It wasn’t a strength workout or a run day but STILL. Nowhere near move goal, unless passionate piano playing and occasionally wandering up to the Hallowe’en candy bag burns more energy than I think it does. Did get back on the sober October train, though, so slept well last night despite my lazy ways.

And happy Thanksgiving, for everyone who is (a) in Canada, and (b) celebrates Sunday rather than Monday! *crickets* Maybe just my family... Anyway besides my mom and the kids, we have my brother’s family coming over for TG dinner today. We had been social-bubbling together but now the province is recommending not even that level of reduced vigilance, so we’ll eat outside at separate tables 😭😭😭 I’m salty AF that they left the bars and casinos open and largely unregulated, while cracking down on even small family gatherings, but blah blah something about the economy. Looking like good weather for dining al fresco so there’s that!

Plan for today is workout 3C, run, fam dinner and cleanup, track food, no booze. Bonus points for piano or putting some clothes away, but let’s be honest, I’d be super happy with the basic plan. Yay, long weekend!!!!

Whoaaaaa did EVERYTHING on my list except tracking of dinner. Even an hour or so of piano and another of closet re-org. Was a great, great day. I feel very blessed to have spent it with my most beloved peeps. Going to wash face, watch a Good Place, then succumb to turkey coma with an early bedtime.

Holiday Monday! Holiday Monday! Holiday holiday holiday Monday!

Slept like the dead last night, and woke up today with super burning glutes [thank you, jump squats] and low key pleasantly burning rest of bod. Today I just want to hit my move goal (700 active cals) but no running or strength workout scheduled. Maybe a bike ride or a long walk, mmm, and/or some online yoga. Studios here are still open but I just went through and cancelled all the classes I’d signed up for as our city’s Covid numbers are rising steeply. It feels weird, and the opposite of badass, for yoga to be the most dangerous thing I do 😳

I woke up ridiculously happy when I remembered I’d put away all my piled-up clothes yesterday!!

Aaaaand right back into the thick of it with work, boo. Holiday Monday was good, weight had jumped up a bit overnight [not surprising after thanksgiving feast] but hit the move goal pretty easily thanks to lots of walking around. Did just enough work so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed this week when things reopen up, I THOUGHT, but things hit the fan again yesterday. Not that anything went particularly badly, there was just sooo much stuff cropping up, and in the end I missed two different meetings (one I’d neglected to put into my calendar, the other I just forgot and worked through) 😟

Did bodyweight workout 3A yesterday morning before things started getting away from me and it felt great. Was supposed to be a run day also but by the time I got home from work it was after 7, everyone was starving, yadda yadda ... I like morning runs better anyway, so will knock that off today!

Last night, self care looked less like a run and more like pizza on the couch with the fam, then some chocolate and cuddling up with Kid #1 to watch spoooooky TV, Haunting of Bly Manor. I loved Hill House and it’s fun to see the actors return in fully different roles.

Drink free for [however long it’s been, getting close to a week?] and am grateful for the good quality sleep and clear thinking that gets me. Will need both of those to get through this term...

Weight’s down again today, within striking distance of 150. Unlikely that I’ll cross that line with 4 days left in this challenge and a fridge full of leftovers, but it’s definitely getting to where I want to be and next challenge will be the one!

Yesterday was busy but good.

  • Run was great and I am soooo happy to be getting back into running! Especially now that all the gyms and yoga studios are closing back down around me. I have my running shoes, I have my kettlebell, I can get through this part of the lockdown and stay strong. Actually workouts have been great and super on track for weeks now: I like the structure of 5K training and of the academy level up series. Today, workout 3B is on the list.
  • Lots of ambient activity too, walked to school with hubs, then at lunchtime my work friend appeared and suggested a trail walk (and gossip) so off we went. Then treated the dogs to a short bonus walk at day’s end, so ended the day >100 cals over original burn goal.
  • Good work news re legal opinions and I’m hoping we can strike a deal with the other side this morning...
  • In light of the above, had to yank column about the other side’s intransigence. Rewrote the column toning down the demonization and it still looks good. I had written the first draft so long ago I almost forgot that it would need to be re-worked, so I’m glad to have remembered 😶
  • Got chosen from a large candidate pool for a work related opportunity — suspecting it will be a lot of work, but important work, which I must keep in mind when I inevitably ask myself why I agree to these things.
  • 6 day streak without alcohol, whee!
  • weight down this morning for 4th consecutive day, woot!

... Oh! Still here. Maybe this is how Middle Ages people felt when the calendar rolled over from 999 to 1000 CE and the world didn’t end, lol. That is okay as I still need a theme and sub themes for the new one!

Before the new challenges go up, I just compared my benchmarks to start of this current challenge. Waist is down 0.5”, Lean mass up 0.3 lb, fat mass down 1.0 lb. Still not sure the scale is fully trustworthy cause these do bounce around but those numbers are after smoothing through TrendWeight. Hey, since they are both going in the direction I’d like to see I’m inclined to believe them, haha! So that was sloooooow but positive progress which is better than the last few months have been. Next challenge will focus on building up momentum!
