There were a couple of trips that derailed me slightly and an Incident involving a rash and my fitness tracker that was no good. But I did get my oven fixed (THANK YOU DEAR SWEET BABY JESUS) so I'll be able to add delicious casseroles to my repertoire again. And roasted veggies. And baked things. I am starting to have some issues with work that are nice and tidily tucked under this spoiler. Spoiler Let me preface this with most of the time, I love my job. Most of the time, I feel like I have the best job in the world. I've got a free schedule, my boss doesn't care when things get done as long as they do, and I'm working less than full time so I have time to do all of the OTHER things that are in my life. My boss is an understanding dude, and overall I've just got a pretty sweet setup. Until I kinda don't. First of all, I'm actually being paid for 25 hours/wk and am doing more like 30. And I'm taking on more hours. I'm expected to do certifications (multiple) that are industry standard outside of my normal work hours. I'm really getting pushed to complete these ASAP now. I'll caveat this by saying they're free to me, my boss is paying for them. I'm just expected to throw a LOT of time at them. Between the certifications and open availability, despite being paid for only 25-30 hours I'm essentially expected to work 40+ with the idea that 'we're going to grow.' I am the ONLY paid employee in this company. My boss's cousin and son are the rest of the manpower aside from external contractors. So I'm basically running a lot of things. He implied that he wants me managing people more than actually getting hands on, but I actually like getting hands on. We need more help, but we need more projects to get more help but we don't have the bandwidth to do the work right now. And on top of this, I'm now expected to do 9am-2pm hours guaranteed. Plus I guess be available in the afternoon and evening when I'm not studying? My normal hours were starting somewhere in the 11am-1pm range, and being done around 7 or 8, with a break or two for food. That's been how I conducted things for over two years now. But all of a sudden that's an issue, despite the fact that his whole draw is 'work from home on your schedule. My boss is an empty nester with health problems that leave him mostly bedridden. He spends most of his time working or studying. On the other hand, I have external projects outside of work (a couple of them under my work umbrella), plus I run a household and try to keep my home neat and tidy. Mr. Right's schedule is wonky so I do 90% of the cooking too. I already had to give up my blog because I simply don't have the time, even though I love it. I go to church twice a week, and go to dance class twice a week or so (depending on Mr. Right's schedule). Working from home, my Work-Life balance is skewed anyway. This is making it worse. I have severe boundary issues with work because every job I've found in my field (3/5) has let me go. For ridiculous things. So at this point, I'm terrified to give a supervisor a "reason" to let me go, particularly right now when we're so dependent on my income. So I do anything asked of me. Every time I make a mistake, I get severe anxiety. Every time something goes wrong, I'm convinced it's my fault and I get severe anxiety. I have horrific imposter syndrome at work, I'm convinced that I'm a terrible worker and I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. It's like I'm grasping for things but I'm barely missing them but don't know how to fix that. These days work doesn't do anything other than stress me out and/or make me angry. Most of my work weeks have been awful for the past couple of months or so, and I don't know how we'll get better. I'm doing some thinking and praying right now, trying to decide if I need to find something better suited to my temperament. For this challenge, I'm going to try a new format: Point based. Basically, I have a series of Good Things To Do that will be worth a point. I do the things, and I get the points. There will be a certain point range for "Good," one for "Better," and one for "Best." Based on my personal goals. All will be reachable, and all will have some form of "prize" that I haven't decided yet. Here are my Good Things Cooking a Meal - I'm tired all the time so cooking is an issue. But I need to do it. Stretching - My back hurts me a lot and also I want to improve my flexibility for dance class Dance class - I love my dance classes! Thanks to doing marketing for my instructor, I get free classes each month. Eating Mindfully - This one is hard. I want to try to improve my mindful eating. Instead of just eating with a book in my face, I want to eat mindful meals and snacks. Getting 2k steps in a day - While I don't want to focus too much on the numbers, I do need to be moving more. I sit too much. So trying to improve my daily step counts is important to me. Here are my scores: Good - 70 pts - Average 1 meal cooked a week, one stretch day (aside from at dance class), 2 dance classes a week, 1 mindful meal or snack a day, 3 days a week (including dance classes) getting 2k steps Better - 125 pts - Average 2 meals cooked a week, 2 stretch days aside from dance class, 2 dance classes a week, 2 mindful meals or snacks a day, 5 days a week (including dance classes) getting 2k steps Best - 170 pts - Average 2-3 meals cooked a week, 3 stretch days aside from dance class, 2 dance classes a week, 3 mindful meals or snacks a day, 6 days a week (including dance classes) getting 2k steps I'll update with prizes later. It'll likely be fun things like a nice pair of heeled boots for my burlesque class, a new sports bra (though that might be a necessity), fresh makeup, winter sweaters, etc. Maybe a new pair of converse or something. Maybe a professional dye job. It's gotten super frustrating overall. I'm really hoping it's temporary but things have just seemed to get worse and worse over the past year. It's frustrating because it correlates with me getting handed more and more responsibility but... I keep trying to remember that correlation does not equal causation. I'm doing a lot of praying and we'll see what happens. I don't want to jump too soon, but I don't want to stay stuck in a bad situation. Yay for writing If I had time, I'd probably work on writing as well. But alas, I can occasionally add a chapter or two to a really long fanfic but that's about it at the moment. Eh. Everyone, particularly small businesses, are trying to recoup their losses at this point, or trying to find staff. Or both. I'm trying to be patient and see what's up. After working, I finished a whole book and watched the first two chronicles of Narnia movies. I felt a lot better! (until today when we're back to low sleep and early mornings) Yesterday was interesting. My ball python had some stuck shed (I suspect she started shedding right around when I was having humidity issues) and the humidity box wasn't helping much. My BP friend told me to soak her for 10 mins in warm water and peel the rest of the dead skin off. Now when we bathed Mr. Right's BP(double checking for mites, his has 'freckles' that can look like mites) poor little Xul f r e a k e d out. Like he didn't need us to make suds, he made them himself poor guy. Danika, my BP, was mostly chill during the process. She def wasn't a fan of the water, but she wasn't thrashing and ticked off. And there was absolutely zero aggression towards me when I got her out. So that's a thing. But she looks super pretty with her fresh shed! And now that she's done shedding, hopefully she'll eat on Sunday. Danika has some brown that's starting to go orange and I love it so much!! BPs are, once you get their terrariums right, so easy to care for. And if you get them from a good breeder that socializes them well, they are easy to hold and enjoy. Xul is our 'splory boi who likes to look at things. They both climb on my glasses a lot xD I never thought I'd be a snek lady but the first time I got to hold my friend's hazard spaghetti I fell in love. TheGreyJedi-Ranger Posted October 26, 2020 Author Report Share Posted October 26, 2020 Okay so yesterday was freaking awesome as far as goals. I did get the 2k steps I wanted, which was a nice touch. I got 2 meals and a snack that I ate mindfully, which I felt really good about. I cooked a veggie/sausage/potato/cheese skillet which was tasty but I definitely was sad that my peppers were moldy and had to be trashed. The stretching is D E F I N I T E L Y going to help. My back was wrecked at the end of the day yesterday and the stretching helped me not struggle with sleeping (at least not because of pain). Yesterday's points total: 6. I'm a little sad that I won't be able to do my Friday fitness class this week, but my husband's work schedule won't really work with it. I'm not mad though, I can work around that. It is what it is. On day 2 of the challenge???? h e c y e s I'm feeling super excited about my challenge this go round, and I'm tracking on Habitica so I can remember all of the points I get. Mr. Right made us both lunches for the week, baby spinach based salad with tomatoes, cheese, and chicken. I grabbed bacon bits and croutons to add to mine (because I love croutons) but Mr. Right did not. I'm pretty excited to try this tasty food later on today. Ended up going to dance class last night and it was amazing! I was worried I wouldn't be able to go, but I squeezed into a class. And I made the conscious decision to not stay in the very back row, which was helpful! I worked a lot harder and made more of an effort to do it right, even though I was tired. I'm seeing improvement though! I can do more than I could when I started, I last longer without needing to adjust things. It's pretty great Also excited about this week because the C O O L W E A T H E R is finally making an appearance. Today is high of 70, tomorrow is high of low-70s, and after that it's going to nosedive into the 50s and 60s after a cold front. I'm THRILLED. Now I just need to go use my Old Navy supercash to get a sweater. I've had a lot of mixed feelings about salads over the years. They were heavily moralized for me, and it's been so hard to throw off the "good" label from certain foods. Throwing the "bad" label away isn't so hard, but throwing away the "good" label and not judging myself as a human based on if I ate "good" food is tricky. Often, when I eat salad, I do it very distractedly so that I can ignore the fact that I'm eating something I don't particularly want to eat or don't necessarily like. I don't actively engage in the food that I'm eating. Yesterday, I did. It was wild. I did enjoy eating the salad, and it kept me full for almost as long as it needed to. I wasn't hungry until after a couple of hours of work and an hour or so doing a bunch of house cleaning type things. I'm rather pleased with myself, honestly. Mindful eating is going fairly well over here, and I think it's helpful. I do need to push myself to stretch more, that's a weak spot for me. My parents drove 2+ hours in a hurricane to find out that they're not allowed to be with her, and are sitting out in the rain in their car in the hospital parking lot. My mom's probably having a panic attack and my sister's never been in surgery before. As you can tell, I'm p i s s e d. And stressed out. And a lot of other things. As far a mindful eating goes, I think it's fine to not worry about it.
