(CNN)Belgium is on the brink of a coronavirus disaster as a top health official warned that the country could run out of intensive care beds in as little as two weeks.

And even that news from this afternoon is outdated as we are now #1 in Europe...

So today i did a run that ...

sucked donkeyballs

I started out a bit fast, but i did not know, i had trouble all through the first 3/4 maintaining pace, and i just went back to recovery speed for the last 1/4. Those last 1.5 miles were just, a stubborn-ass-nerd putting one foot in front of the other and repeating. The last 300m i got into my rhythm but i just wanted to stop, so i did that as soon as i was home.

I decided to stop doing back2back days of running

Just found out the first hospitals are getting "Bergamo types of shit" by this evening:

Spoiler

  • First hospital is reporting running out of rooms people needing to wait in the hallways.
  • First confirmed dead COVID patient, cause IC was full, and the hospital they wanted to transfer the patient to was also full.
  • 11-6 all the hospitals in Belgium will be at max capacity.
  • Confirmed cases still increasing exponentially
  • At this moment cancer patients aren't getting the treatment they need because of COVID patients (trading in one death for the other)
  • Planning stages to get extra hospital room with help from the military. Using their dedicated hospitals and temporary military hospitals.

Be safe everybody!

That's the kind of stuff that scares me too about the corona virus. You have this stuff happening, yet people in my apartment complex don't wear masks walking around here. Our county just moved into a different color tier in California, but that doesn't me people should just forget all protocols.

Ugh.  Same.  I'm so happy that I'm in a city that mandated masks ages ago.  Of course, people still argue and some still don't.  I'm hunkering down for now.

I feel this pretty hard. We've run out of beds here in Oklahoma City. People are being turned away. I don't know how many have died because they did not have hospital access. I know my sister in law had to go to the hospital for covid, but she wasn't there for very long. Essentially when they got her stabilized with oxygen they sent her home to continue to recover.

Well i've thought long and hard about the people not willing to comply, and it's complicated. I always try to be open minded. I for one am not quite sure that we are getting the whole truth at the moment. Not that i immediately am thinking in conspiracy theories, i just want to keep the door a little ajar on the subject. But if you really believe something else, than that is your right to believe that.

Bear with me, i find it difficult to translate this in a way to exactly express myself.

In my mind, i am now comparing it to two sides during a war. Only when the war is done, you have a "right" side and a "wrong" side. But it is hard for a common soldier to be blamed for something that he did with only the knowledge of his side of the war.

The only certain things is that laws have to be followed, but that also means there is room when there are only recommendations.

Good to hear your SIL was healthy enough to not have to stay in the hospital. My biggest fear of the moment, me (or one of my family) catching it, and having the bad luck that it's that severe we need hospitalization when the hospitals are overcrowded.

Thanx everybody for responding!

Today i feel a bit blegh, and i made an adult decision, i am not going to do any adulting todo (starting when i'm done with work) so this evening i want something yummy to eat, play videogames and have a beer.

All of the ❤️ to both of you.

I'd like to offer to either of you (or really anyone who needs an ear around COVID) - please feel free to reach out at any point. Even if you just need to rant.

My rant:

Spoiler

I think it's super frustrating that the world was warned.... warned that there would be a surge at this point in the year that would be compounded by flu season. I know my company spent a good amount of manpower to produce a COVID preparedness document that included recommendations for hospitals on how to try to counter the increase. Yet we are still seeing such an increase and hospitals not prepared to take on the patients.

And this isn't a criticism of anyone working on the front lines, because they don't get to make those decisions. But administrators and lack of funds setting up a situation where people have to make difficult decisions around care and treatment of patients is just awful.

I agreed with the statement in the newspaper, now when the images reappear about the IC patients, and patients having to wait on the hallways NOW people are being strict about it. But they have to be shocked into submission. It unfortunately is a human flaw. Reactive instead of proactive. What works against us is the fact that you can't do something directly to it. Smart decisions don't create an immediate solution. Bad decisions will remain pretty much unnoticed for a long time.

It really is a delicate dance, Health safety VS economic impact VS mental health. I'm super glad i'm not the one behind the wheel on this...

This is my COVID nightmare: That someone I love needs emergency medical help for something that has nothing to do with COVID, and it's not available because the medical system has collapsed.

Yeah with it now being autumn, and turning winter things will get much worse i'm pretty sure. Next 2 weeks is gonna be interesting. Cause we are not expecting things to get any better for the upcoming 2 weeks. And hospitals will be full within a week. Then, after that, things will god down, but that's not instantaneous, so it will gradually go down, which will mean for a long time the whole system is going to be greatly stressed!

Thank you, it was a glorious evening of nothing. We got chines take-out, i overate, slipped into a foodcoma and just resurfaced this morning. It was fantastic! And what i needed, just a real quiet evening. Still leaves me with some beers for this evening, which will probably be filled with Fortnite with my son (as the girls will be downstairs watching some boring show on TV).

Dance class and JJ is cancelled, we got confirmations this morning. But we had already decided to keep the kids home. Just better now!

Yesterday we had the campaign where i get to play my Golbin Monk Dragtald.

I'm pretty sure it's Lizard Boi, with an i instead of y at the end. Internet slang and all. Actually, my favourite part of that session came much earlier and it's still causing me to randomly giggle when I recall it, almost a week after that session.

Spoiler

My lizard boi, also known as Vutha, doesn't bother with most of civilized society's trappings, from things like honour, duty and fighting evil (he's an emotionless lizard boi) to basic stuff like lodging or coin (he's also a survivalist and utilitarian) so the arrangement all this time has been that he did not require a share of the coins in the loot, as long as the rest of the party included him in arrangements for food, drink etc.

After cleaning up the Mines of Phandelver, he struck a deal with the dwarves who will be taking over, claiming the watery parts of the mines as his lair in return for his assistance in ridding the place of beasts. And because I had to miss the session where the party encountered the now-famous Spaboons, he was not around but I had provided the DM with instructions on how he would spend his downtime.

Fast forward to the latest session, the group reunites and the DM announces that Vutha has been going about town saying he's on the lookout for mercenaries to join his outfit. I also had him announce that from now on, he will be getting a share of the coins in any loot (because expenses). And then @jonfirestar , who's usually the one doing all the backstage plotting with his tiefling wizard (or maybe undercover warlock) goes "Uhm, why is Vutha building an army?"

For some reason I feel attracted to the negative. Like I almost want to see just how bad this shit show is going to get... but at the same time I don't really want to be a part of the shit show. Maybe it's the human attraction to drama as a form of entertainment?
