Trying to survive. School, that is.

Quick summary for everyone who doesn't know me yet: I went back to school this fall after a decade out of it. Trying to be a physiotherapist. Super awesome, super fun, but also super time consuming. Especially if you are not used to learning and taking exams anymore (it's already better than it was in September, but there is still some room for growth).

So my main goal is: surviving.

To survive, there are a few crucial points:

1. Sleep. Super important. I really struggled with this last challange, I want to be more strict with my bedtime (preferably 22:30, if not possible at most 23:30)

2. Food. Eat something decent when hungry, don't rely on chocolate as much (I did a little "no buying sweets" challenge in August, I want to do this again. Using what I already have at home is fine and should be plenty for the next few weeks. xD)

3. Relaxation. For me this means: dancing, stretching, being upside down, mobility exercises, taking walks. Preferably a little bit every day, but it's also ok if it's a bit more on 4 days a week. Main goal here is to not sit in front of the computer all day but actually move a bit (we have quite a bit of movement related classes, so that is nice, but with Covid and a lot of classes being distance learning, it often boils down to sitting all day again... sigh. This probably will get better in the next semesters, but right now it is what it is.)

4. Bonus: look at the NF forum more than once a week. I want to keep up with you guys, at least a bit of reading and reacting should be possible from time to time. :)

Let's do this!!

Great challenge! The thing about relaxation is so relatable for me, I get so antsy if I sit still all day. Following :).

I know, right? :D A bit of moving in between can work wonders! Welcome. :D

Quick update for today:

Spent my day learning anatomy (we have the first big exam next Tuesday), interrupted by a quick trip to the doctor to get another two vaccine shots. I'm finished with round one of everything I have to vaccinate now!! :D (Some have a round two in 1 month, 6 months, 1 year)

So I got a bit of movement in there, took a quick walk in the sunshine, it was really quite nice. All I bought was the vaccines, so no sweets today, that is nice. I did have a banana milkshake with a bit of chocolate thoug,h since the bananas were... very ripe. But I didn't buy anything for this so it was fine.

Now I just came home after a two hour bellydancing class, that was so much fun and a much needed study break.

It's 23:15 now (class is from 20:00 to 22:00, so by the time I'm home it's almost 23:00... I have the "23:30 is ok"-rule especially for Thursdays. xD), so I'm gonna shut down the computer now, take a quick shower and get myself to bed. Doable. :D

Plan for tomorrow: be at school at 8am (means leaving the house by 7:15), study anatomy with a study buddy and the skeletons there, survive the day. :D Toughest item on my list tomorrow is "getting up early". Sooo... off to bed now! :)

Oh it was. :D I take Classes on Monday and Thursday and it's always great fun! Now with the new Corona regulations starting next week I'll probably take them over zoom instead of real life again... Also fun, but different. At least it's still possible to have them...

Here and following along as you survive school

Welcome! :)

Yesterday went super well. Was at the school slightly past 8, did 3 hours of bone fun (we looked at hands and feet), rushed home to a lecture (physiology - the next big exam after anatomy), more bone fun (finished the feet and started with the shoulder), more lecture (anatomy, it was more of a Q&A session than a real lecture, very helpful), even more bone fun (more shoulder). Then selfmade Pizza. Then a romantic nightly walk trough the fog and slight rain (love it!) to get some movement into the day. Collapsed into bed at 10:30 pm.

Not very entertaining to read about, but it was a really nice day. xD We planned to go to the gym but didn't in the end - my right (dominant) arm was not very happy with Thursday's vaccine and hurt a bit (it's almost fine now xD), so better save than sorry. I dreamt about going to the gym though... Maybe on Monday. :)

Today I slept in, got up at 8:30 because the registration for our elective classes for next semester started at 9. Got everything I wanted. :) Now I'll relax a little bit and maybe have some more bone/joint fun (I think about doing the knee next, that's a surprisingly complicated joint with lots to know about xD), then I'll go to the pole studio to teach two classes, after that I'm seeing some friends. Good times. :D

I still have the whole day tomorrow and Monday (public holiday in Austria) to finish up all the bone/joint stuff for the big anatomy exam on Tuesday... I think it will go well enough, at this point it's just more repetition and small details. After that we start with the muscles... Soooo excited about that. :D

Sounds like a busy semester for you! The late night/ early morning thing is inconvenient as heck, but congrats on getting all the electives you want - hopefully the next semester will have a better schedule. And in the mean time, bones!

Following again, of course. :)

Wheee Manarelle, glad to have you here! :)

Oh it it super busy! But they say, the first two semesters are the worst. I can deal with this. :D It's still a lot better than being stuck at a job you don't like very much, even if that job had overall less hours (... 40 per week). The first two semesters are just the basis for everything that comes later. Hence: ALL the bones. ALL the muscles. ALL the memorizing funny latin words.

Yesterday was amazing again. I did study for a few hours, made a handy overview of all the joints in the body and their respective joint type. Then I went to the pole studio to teach, first a two hour stretching class (love those. :D My hips always feel like butter afterwards. xD Usually we do one hour of front splits and one hour of middlesplits), then a low level pole class. First I was a bit worried about my arm (since it still hurt a bit from the vaccine), but in the end it was fine, as soon as my muscles were warm, it stopped hurting (and is now completely fine today). I even did a little handspring again to see if it would work. It did. :D And I just remembered I still owe you a video from the one two weeks ago...

Handspring and happy dance (no sound):

Spoiler

It went even better (less shaky^^) yesterday, but I didn't take a video, just wanted to try it really quick while I was still warm.

Then I went to meet some friends - one of my dance sisters also sings and did a little concert (for 30 people - very exclusive thanks to corona regulations) yesterday. We had soooo much fun! Ate good food (also some sweets... But one of my friends treated me, so I didn't exactly buy it, so it doesn't count? ^^ Ah I ate something decent too. :) ), drank some prosecco, enjoyed the show and stayed to talk till after bedtime. Oops. :D

But no worries, this night we changed the clocks to winter time, so I had one hour more sleep anyway and got to sleep in as well, so everything is fine. :)

So... Sleep check. Food semi-check. Relaxation double check. :D

Hahaha, the handspring is impressive, and the happy dance is adorable. Glad you have a hobby you enjoy to balance out the omg of school. And yes, agreed, it's still much better than a soul-sucking job, hours notwithstanding.

Thank you!! Oh I have. I LOVE handsprings. Ok, love-hate, ever since I learned it a few years ago... Took me ages to get it, then I had it, then I lost it because I didn't do any handsprings for about 2 years... Now I'm getting it back. :D

Oh yes! Sometimes I dread going to the dance classes because I'm tired, ya know, but once I'm there it's always amazing and really helpful as a balance. ❤️

Hahaha :D

Yesterday went rather well again. :D After sleeping in I procrastinated a bit, then watched my pathology lecture (we get a new one each Friday and can watch it whenever, really convenient), then procrastinated some more. After that I finally started to do something really useful, studied a few hours and got a LOT done. Feels good, man. :D I finished the day with a nice nightly walk again, to get some movement in and clear the head. I love autumn, the fog, the colorful leaves, the fresh air... ❤️ And even though we are in the middle of the city, there are quite a few green spots around us, that is very nice. :)

Today was similar, but much more productive: slept in (it's a national holiday), then made a nice cup of tea and just re-read EVERYTHING anatomy. xD Then re-read some more. And more. Had a little zoom session with my classmates discussing some things that needed discussion... And now I'm just chilling until my bellydancing class starts (about 30 mins to go). Afterwards we want to take a little walk again. Then off to bed and tomorrow at 9am is the big exam. Wish me luck. ;)

I DID IT!!! :D

First part of the exam (general anatomy): 20/20, second part (bones and ligaments): 17/20. Whew.

Now I can finally think straight again... and start learning those nerves and muscles. xD

Rest of the day will be: now a bit of chilling, then I'm driving to school for some classes, then I'm driving to the studio for some pole teaching. Nice. xD

Thank you all! :D

I'm still super happy. :D And somehow also super tired, might be the after-exam-adrenaline-crash...

So yesterday went well - first the exam, then off to school, then off to the pole studio for a bit of teaching. My students were super nice (I just filled in for another teacher, so I didn't know any of them beforehand) and motivated and afterwards I even went for my nightly walk with the boyfriend again. Then some pizza and half an episode of RuPaul's DragRace, and off to bed on time. :) Oh and I got myself a few gummy bears for doing so well in the exam. xD

Today more of the same: I got to sleep in, went to School, went to the studio to teach (stretching this time), went for a walk (basically walked home from the studio - win-win: less public transport and more movement xD), now I just wanted to jump in here real quick and will go to sleep soon (right on time for my bedtime). I even started to learn those muscles today. I started with the shoulder. I like shoulders a lot.

The next exam, physiology, will take place in two weeks, so this will be a major focus for me in the coming weeks. But I'm glad that we have some big exams now and not all of them in one week in January...

Sleep: check.

Food: yesterday a bit of a cheat day, today was fine again.

Relaxation: check.

Overall surval: check. :D

It's sad, but true. We must not rely on chocolate. No matter how cold it gets outside! Even if it's HOT CHOCOLATE.

Congrats on killing the exam!
