Breakfast: Half a pear (split with the pups), almond yogurt, granola

Lunch: Delivery Indian - prawn curry, basmati rice, tandori whole wheat roti

Dinner: Skipped but my post lunch snack was another Japanese snacky thing - these were leftover bits from manufacturing ramen noodles pressed into mini crispy things like lo mein noodles

Snacks: Post breakfast snack of kaak bites: like a crispy kinda sweet/kinda ghee-e crouton and post Zoom plain rice cakes so I wouldn’t wake up starving

Did I eat a vegetable today? Erm ...

Did I eat like an asshole? I mean ... I *did* eat Indian, so yeah, kinda.

Did anything try to kill me? Some random ass stabby stabby

Did I drink enough water? Maybe?

Movement

Goals here: 4 - 5x a week yoga classes via Zoom or in person if that’s available and desirable + a little or a lot of accessory work on Saturdays and a walk on Sundays. Projected weekly schedule: TBD, Sunday mall walk

Yoga Class: Nope

[ / ] Did my wrist rehab exercises + leg rehab + breathing exercises - I at least did most of my wrist rehab

Fulfillment

Goal here: Keep up the little extras I’ve been doing + add a few more

[ x ] Duolingo Arabic class

[ x ] Primary craft project: Sashiko

[ - ] Secondary digital project: _

[ x ] Enrichment feeds for the pups: Tonight was bag of trash dinner again + I dropped a hand full of kibble into a ball and dropped that into each pups’ bag

[ - ] Training for the pups: _

Adulty Shit

Pick a direction to go on the brain not liquefying front, Adulty $ stuff, blog roadmap

[ - ] Worked toward some or all of that: A little bloggy stuff, kinda. Found out my auto-post to both Pinterest and Facebook are now working, so that’s good. It’s not working for Instagram, but I don’t remember if I actually set that up or how, so ....

The list of bloggy things I did last week that I wanted a record of:

Wrote recipe

Scheduled 2 pins on Pinterest

Fixt IFTT so the blog should auto-post to: Facebook & Instagram

Made a couple pins using last week’s Template 1 & 2 on Canva

Organized my Canva projects

Created a new Pin/Image workflow

Set up a Trello board for the editorial calendar and to-do scheduling

Downloaded Google Calendar to help with time blocking

Set Sundays as my Admin day for blog scheduling, workout scheduling, and menu planning - may move this to Fridays

Created better blog to-do list

Created weekly general schedule that will actually allow for things to get done other than watching true crime and historical costuming on YouTube

I also made a little NYE animation on Canva and finished a drawing from a tutorial on Procreate. And I colored a bunch using that app.

Today, we also had a Zoom meeting with DH’s parents - who are still traveling, but not as much as they want to. They’re still somewhat in the ‘railing against the way things are temper tantrum’ phase. At least they’re wearing masks and are at least giving lip service to quarantining as necessary. Unfortunately, they’ve seen first hand what harmless family gatherings can lead to (church members); so shit is now “real” for them. Which sucks, and I wouldn’t wish that shit on anyone, but highlights some of the more currently annoying shortfalls of the condition called being human.

Bonus pic of my latest drawing - it’s not perfect, but it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, thanks to auto-snap lines and the ability to wiggle just outside that for a more torn paper effect.

Another bonus of one of the Pin styles I’m trying out. This is version 1 of 3, and I plan to rotate through them so my feed doesn’t look quite so boring, but I’m planning on keeping the colors the same to reinforce brand identity. this color and a couple shades on either side of light or dark has become my go-to over the years with business cards, resumes and social media.

My sympathies. I'm so impressed with how my parents took it all, they were way out ahead of things last February and really had a good perspective on it. The arguments we're having now are that, having reclaimed some socially distanced community interactions and settled into a reasonable pandemic normal, it's hard to get them to understand this is a very dangerous peak, they have human blind spots in their safety precautions, and they need to lock down harder for the next month or two. I just want them to get snowed in for all of January and give up on anything but sheltering in place. But they're really trying, I'll give them that, and we're mostly on the same page, which I'm glad of. They're very thoughtful about their interactions, and thankfully they live somewhere that people take it seriously on the whole. (But I'll fucking kill them if they die of covid because they didn't listen to me and stop going into the grocery store on occasion.)

I feel ya. These two are at the ‘I can only handle so much not getting to do cool things presented to us’ and ‘well, family ... and we can be reasonably safe to see out family member who is having minor heart surgery’ blinder stage.

Do it! After years of paleo & low carb, I forgot how much I like barley.

Auto-snap is the shit! It’s like snap-to-grid on Photoshop, only for drawn lines in Procreate. It assists drawing things like: straight lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, and I think stars. It’s a lifesaver if you, like me, cannot draw.

Breakfast: Damnit, I forgot the name of this one. It’s something like Achmal - a soft bagely thing stuffed with black olive paste. I had no idea what it was, and didn’t want my usual nut biscuit thing from the gas station because I couldn’t fathom sweet - even lightly sweet. It was delicious

Lunch: Another Starbucks lunch. The chicken wrap trio, since that’s the one and only thing they carry with no cheese or that isn’t dessert. Luckily, I really like it.

Dinner: Picked up a cous-cous and veggie salad from the grocery and added more peppers & a fake chicken sausage

Snacks: Despite being tired of sweet, tonight’s Japanese blind candies were all sweet - pickled possible peach that was kinda salty, jelly stuff, a gummy ring that tasted like all fruits, and Fruit Stripe but better gum

Did I eat a vegetable today? Yep! Peppers and a little eggplant with dinner

Did I eat like an asshole? Nope

Did anything try to kill me? Yep. More stabby stabby - not sure why, but I suspect something is in my gut just a gassing away

Did I drink enough water? Nope. Woke up crackly in the middle of the night

Yoga Class: Nope, but we did tool around the mall a bit. DH was feeling just healed enough to walk at a pace that was freakin murder on my knees and hips. We made it work.

Monday, Tuesday

Blame it on productivity.

Created a Google Calendar for this week and managed to at least mostly stick to it both Monday & Tuesday - unfortunately, I forgot to schedule in firm time for NF, since I kind of just update as I’ve got time and remember - oops. With yoga taking a 2 hour chunk out of my day, there goes the time I usually post.

I’ll do better as I adjust.

A brief recap of my days:

Monday

Walked to yoga

Slow flow outside

Walked home

Made coconut curry for dinner with TVP as the protein and leftover potatoes & green beans as the veggies

Created pins for and scheduled a pin for every day this week

I did update today - in my art slot - and Pinterest took longer than the allotted hour

Arted a bit after dinner - signed up for some freebies, added a couple new brushes, and signed up for a course

Tuesday

Coffee catch up

Got too damn hungry and stopped for lunch on the way to grocery shop

Spent the entire time deep in convo with DH regarding whether it would be a better move to sell the house or not; ultimately decided we are not selling the house this year, despite the strong market. Primarily, because while we aren’t making as much as we would like off of it, we are making something - and if we sold it and stuck that $ in the stock market; that would be great and all, but with living overseas I feel more secure to have somewhere to land if shit hits the fan in a recession. Plus, it’s been such a steady rental for the past 14 years - and has needed little fixing - that it’s an easy ‘set it and forget it’ kind of thing to take care of. Plus, buying right now in a hot seller’s market - well - that’s when we bought our damn house to begin with, and it didn’t work out so well for us in the short term. Could have been looooooooooooong term.

Grocery shopped

Skipped this afternoon’s bloggy activity - working on an ebook - in favor of something(?) which I can’t remember.

Also downloaded and started a lettering/artsy workbook to help build brush control

Dinner was Taco Tuesday

Dog dinners were frozen foods night and snuffle mat night.  We worked (slyly) on heel with some radish scraps after dinner Tuesday.

Duolingo was done.

And that’s what I can remember offhand.

Week: 1, Tuesday

Nutrition

*Averages are off this week, because I completely forgot to track on NYD. Oops. I’m going to skip reporting this week’s numbers*

Breakfast: Almond yogurt & granola

Lunch: The leftover potato curry

Dinner: Vaguely bibimbap-inspired bowls

Snacks: Forgot to do my Japanese snacks today because I think we are down to sweet stuff

Did I eat a vegetable today? Yep! Green beans at lunch and carrots & zucchini at dinner

Did I eat like an asshole? Nope. Thought lunch was going to be too heavy, since my portion was large so I wouldn’t end up with a too small to be an actual portion left, but it turns out that I needed it. I felt snacky in the afternoon.

Did anything try to kill me? Nope, but the gas is back in full force - not that it really left, but man. Something is going on in there.

Did I drink enough water? Possibly?

Movement

Goals here: 4 - 5x a week yoga classes + a little or a lot of accessory work on Saturdays and a walk on Sundays. Projected weekly schedule: Monday: Slow Flow, Tuesday: Walk, Wednesday: Detox, Thursday: Private Session, Friday: Rest, Saturday: ?, Sunday: Mall walk

Yoga Class: Detox class with one of my fav instructors that I’d missed. This was an indoor class, and I was happy to see that the mats were already out, the instructor came around (masked) with the blocks, and people were mostly doing what they were supposed to. Also saw someone cleaning mats when we left, so that was a relief. Class was great. I love my Zoom classes and the convenience of not having to leave the house is right up my alley, but I work harder in actual class, actual class instructors work you harder, and there is definitely a difference between a 200hr TT, a 200hr TT with flexibility and athletic background, and a 500hr TT. I can’t remember if Paulina has hit 500hr, but she’s a functional movement person, and low key tries to kill you. I love her.

[ / ] Did my wrist rehab exercises + leg rehab + breathing exercises - incidentally, we ended up doing like half the rehab breathing and core work in class. Dicked around with wrists a bit.

Fulfillment

Goal here: Keep up the little extras I’ve been doing + add a few more

[ x ] Duolingo Arabic class

[ - ] Primary craft project: Nope

[ x ] Secondary digital project: Yep - worksheets, coloring and some designer stuff

[ x ] Enrichment feeds for the pups: Snuffle mats again because I couldn’t be bothered

[ x ] Training for the pups: More sneaky heel training with carrots

Adulty Shit

Pick a direction to go on the brain not liquefying front, Adulty $ stuff, blog roadmap

[ x ] Worked toward some or all of that: Now that we’ve made a decision on the house stuff, a whole big worry has been lifted. Whew. We even came up with somewhat of a plan for our financial life this year - providing it’s still a low travel year, that is.

Also got in a new light because DH is adorable and every time I even remotely mention lights, he works on improving our setup so I can have all the fake sun I need. This one is a corner bar light - he thought it was the not-tabletop version, but it’s fine. A little short, but casts more light than the spotlight thing we had going. We now have lights bouncing at both mirrors in the dining room area, and that side of the living room is looking good. Speaking of, tf has happened to my lights over the last half hour? It’s almost dark in here.

This was all precipitated by taking down the Christmas lights & the neighbors across the way spending more time either hanging laundry out, sweeping the balcony, or pacing back and forth while on the phone. All activities that are 100% not dachshund approved. So now we are mostly living with the curtains shut, which turns the little bit of sunlight we did get into a gold & brown hole of ick.

Screw that. I’ve got washes of light ranging from pale yellow to pink and purple in a kind of wave throughout the living room (the Scandi Home setting). Still need to reconfigure a daylight approximater (preferably the quality of light we get here, too, which is distinctly yellow). Still have yet to find the perfect Hue Labs formula for that one. I did have something rigged on a timer at one point, but the multiple ways available to access the light controls had clashing formulas and triggers going on and would send DH off on a spin when shit was turning on and off seemingly randomly. He is not a fan of time based lighting. Alllllllmost as bad as when I had IFTT blink the lights every time the ISS passed overhead and it woke him up at 3am. 😆 I mean .... why have robot lights, if you can’t use them as a life enhancer? I was also a fan of watching the geofence on my phone trip a rainbow rave from our window when I walked up to the building. He was not amused.

*Averages are off this week, because I completely forgot to track on NYD. Oops. I’m going to skip reporting this week’s numbers*

Breakfast: The last of my almond yogurt & granola*

Lunch: Leftover taco fixins

Dinner: Leftover veggies & chicken with spicy corn flavored ramen

Snacks:

Did I eat a vegetable today? Yep! Zucchini & carrots at dinner

Did I eat like an asshole? Nope-ish

Did anything try to kill me? Not kill, per se, but I do think I’ll be chilling on the almond yogurt for a bit. I suspect that starting the day off with that has just given me a baseline level of bloating and gas for the day which compounds over the next 2 meals. On the recommendation of one of my favorite dietitians, I’ll see if oatmeal + banana + peanut butter works to kick that in the pants. I may also be adding some supplements.

Did I drink enough water? Yep. Shotgunned a whole lemonade right before bed

Yoga Class: My last private session of the bunch, and we worked on getting my shoulders open so my diaphragmatic breathing will be easier and maybe my neck and thigh can release. We also added some external hip work, which was the damn devil.

[ x ] Did my wrist rehab exercises + leg rehab + breathing exercises

Fulfillment

Goal here: Keep up the little extras I’ve been doing + add a few more

[ x ] Duolingo Arabic class

[ - ] Primary craft project: _

[ x ] Secondary digital project: Worked on a bunch of stuff

[ x ] Enrichment feeds for the pups: Frozen foods night - kibble & wet food mix with green beans poking out the top

[ x ] Training for the pups: More heel work with veggie scraps

Adulty Shit

Pick a direction to go on the brain not liquefying front, Adulty $ stuff, blog roadmap

[ x ] Worked toward some or all of that: Did some EBook work, worked on some art, did some other stuff I can’t remember

And all this with a whopping anxiety day. I didn’t think the shit coming out of the US was real until my American Expats group started popping off - and someone saw themselves out after throwing libtard around. Which was baffling. And then I went back and actually paid attention to my Facebook feed. I’m sticking with baffled, because I am, lest I allow myself to let it burn me up. Super not trying to go for that shit any more, but its tempting. Tempting, but ultimately futile. I’ll go with baffled, looking toward time and distance to provide some overarching answers. Man, sociology students have got it damn made right now.

Also I've been doing breakfast tacos with soft corn tortillas for lunch all week.  I'm a fan!

Mmm. those food photos look nice. I assumed before reading that the the wiggly yellow bits are noodles and I see now that they are corn ramen, whatever that is, but I would eat them even if you said "no... what are noodles?".

How did that work? Because I desperately need to work on my lower back and shoulders. I've found those are my two problem-spots when I'm lifting.

Really well. We do a combo of things, including diaphragmatic breathing and stretches, and I’ve found that + remembering shoulders go back and down throughout the day helps mitigate the heavy work put in through shoulder stand practice & my propensity to carry tension in my shoulders naturally.

For me, what needs to open are the tiny muscles in the pecs + the bigger pec muscles in order to loosen the shoulder so we do two main stretches for that:

both are done lying on the belly.

1. Arm in a 90 degree angle, elbow above the shoulder about 20-30 degrees. Roll over to the bent elbow as much as possible (ideally, with opposite foot resting on the ground), propping up with opposite hand. For me, my left side is the worst so that means left arm bent, rolling to the left and kicking my right foot back to hopefully hit the ground. On tight days, just moving that leg back to provide a little extra weight dragging my body down to the left hurts.

2. Same set up, but with elbow straight and straight out from the shoulder. For extra intensity, make a fist, point the fist down, and actively push the fist into the ground while pulling slightly back into the shoulder a bit. Roll over like with the other exercise. This one I can get deeper into, even when all tensed up.

As for low back, I have issues with that too, and do a lot of forward folds and variations on that to release it. Forward fold, forward fold holding elbows, butterfly pose forward fold, side folds - pretty much anything foldy and bendy helps. I also love a good supported fish when my back is really acting up.

I’m sure they haven’t given up - this is by far from the worst year in recorded human history. Philosophers gonna hope.

Mmmmm ... breakfast tacos. I’m planning on varying my taco game this week to include some corn and mushroom - maybe a slack homemade seasoning; I’m finally out of the Taco Bell seasoning packs and am hella tired of the same taste every week tbh.

Completely understandable, and I recently read a super interesting but still kinda terrifying article on the correlation between Evangelical trauma, othering, and Trump voters here by my sociologist SIL with tons of firsthand experience on the subject.  A much better articulation than the gut terror I’ve been able to express on the subject for years. She’s been doing a lot of personal growth work in this arena, and its been as illuminating as it has been heartbreaking.

And lols on the noodles. From what I can gather, they were regular ramen noodles but with some at least corn smell added? Maybe there was corn in the seasoning packet, too? Tasted kinda like the Top Ramen? Manchuan? Nissan? Whatever brand in the States that has picante chicken flavor but with added corn bits. Which, consequently, used to be one of my favorite ways to have ramen in college. I used to drown it in frozen corn kernels. Frozen corn, or frozen California mix + some sliced chicken. With or without a slice of American cheese.

The brand I get here is Korean - Budok - and they will absolutely try and kill you with spice if you let them. That saucy chicken on the package is a sadist.

Friday, Saturday

Friday was my stay at home and not people day - we had scheduled D&D for the evening, but rescheduled due to 1 hangover + 1 batch of unexpected guests in the group.

Worked on some Procreate hand dexterity workbook exercises and did some social media scheduling. Did some research into exactly what we should be looking for when it comes to rental properties - so when we are ready for that, we will know at least a little what we are doing. Hopefully. It’s all kind of a crap shoot.

Dinner was delivery chicken Katsu curry - aaaaand I ate a bit too much.

Saturday was kinda meltdowny, but the pups enjoyed their extra enrichment. Gave them some little stuffies out of their first Barkbox and they went over like gangbusters. We worked on Odin not being a dick to Freya and mugging her for toys with mixed success. She was eventually able to chew in peace out of eyesight of him - but did not want to go chew in the other room, unless it was right out of sight and inches from the end of his tether. Unsurprisingly to everyone but her - that did not go well, and ended in a fight.

They also had frozen foods night and we worked on heel a bit with some doggie jerky sticks.

For dinner, we went to the souq after dark - finally - and had way too much damn food because the Syrian place we went was amaze. It’s always amaze food-wise, but had not as yet forced DH to eat there. It was nice to sit outside having dinner in a place that’s lively. We walked around a bit afterward to move our dinner around and then headed home.

We watched a movie Friday - Cadaver(?) - a Russian horror flick that made me homesick for NYC and Sleep No More . It was good. I’m glad we stuck in there, despite the movie being dubbed into English. DH also tinkered with the lighting setup and now we have an even more immersive thing going on with them. still needs a bit of work - mostly with things to raise the ones on the floor - but it’s coming along nicely.

Week: 1, Sunday

Nutrition

Goals here: smaller portions, less meat, more veggies, nutrient dense food options, no GI issues. Eat with an eye toward Base MFP goals for slow weight loss: 1,260 calories, 20% protein, 50% carbs, 30% fat

Week 0 Averages:  _calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: 137
* Week 1 Averages:  _calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: _
Week 2 Averages:  _ calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: _
Week 3 Averages:  _ calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: _
Week 4 Averages:  _ calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: _
Week 5 Averages:  _ calories, _g protein (_%), _g carbs (_%), _g fat (_%) End Weight: _
*Averages are off this week, because I completely forgot to track on NYD. Oops. I’m going to skip reporting this week’s numbers*

Breakfast: Cookies & cream protein pancakes from the gas station because they were just too interesting to resist. Not bad. Too sweet for me, but not the worst.

Lunch: Nando’s chicken sandwich with wedges. I was so starving by lunch that this did not 100% fill me up. Glad I sat in not fullness, though. I ended up actually being full afterall

Dinner: Only ate about 1/3 of this mixed Thai plate. Had the rice and the chicken basil curry, which was too salty. The beef was saltier still and I don’t know what I was thinking with the side of veggies - 3 out of 4 of those veggies I can no longer eat. Was full after the rice anyways, so it was all good

Snacks:

Did I eat a vegetable today? Yep. A very little lettuce & tomato at lunch and some zucchini with dinner

Did I eat like an asshole? Ish. Could have not eaten everything I did for dinner, but didn’t want to waste even more food.

Did anything try to kill me? Not especially. Some stabby stabby but not sure why and I can’t remember when.

Did I drink enough water? Probably. I don’t remember waking up dried out in the middle of the night. My skin is dry af - but the humidity is really down, and this happens every winter. I mean ... it’s not like I *ever* have skin one would term “juicy”, but in the winter I notice the itchiness more. Have been scratching a lot more lately and noticed a few quite visible dry spots in yoga today.

Yoga Class: Planned rest. Mall waked.

[ - ] Did my wrist rehab exercises + leg rehab + breathing exercises - nope.

Fulfillment

Goal here: Keep up the little extras I’ve been doing + add a few more

[ x ] Duolingo Arabic class

[ - ] Primary craft project: _

[ x ] Secondary digital project: Did a bunch here - some workbook work and completed a tutorial. DH thinks it looks good, so we are going with that.

[ x ] Enrichment feeds for the pups: Tonight’s ‘bag of trash’ dinner was a doozy. I took empty Hue light boxes, stuffed them with wadded up wrapping paper - some containing kibble, some not - and took their new stuffies (that have been de-stuffed) - Marv & Harry from their Home Alone themed Barkbox - and put some kibble in their empty heads. I then took their de-stuffed asses and shoved them inside the head cavities. Then I took their little man-balls, put them in a paper bag, folded the bag down tight, and twisted as hard as I could. That got shoved into the box as well.

I ended up giving Odin a tall and skinny box, which I set upright and let him kick over - and which he obliterated, using his jaws like a letter opener to go right up one side.

Freya got a short and fat box, whose lid I left open but which had a piece of paper card over the stuffing and a weird paper roll thing taking up most of the inside.

Both were a big hit, though only 1 is reusable.

[ x ] Training for the pups: more heel work with treats

Adulty Shit

Pick a direction to go on the brain not liquefying front, Adulty $ stuff, blog roadmap

[ x ] Worked toward some or all of that: Did some bloggy stuff. Don’t remember what, but I do remember having my iPad out and doing something ....

And OH SWEET BABY JESUS .... THIS DOG’S BUTT. Odin keeps gifting me farts, and now I don’t feel so bad for doing the same. FOR REALS. Where’s my mask? Is it acceptable to buy an N95 for in-home dog fart reasons?

I can tell you from experience, N95s don't keep out fart smells. You're better off putting some peppermint oil on a cloth mask.

Aside from what Tank said, a more effective long-term solution might be to find out what caused the farting and eliminate it from the dog's diet?

Another bonus of one of the Pin styles I’m trying out.
