fearless: the new goal every week challenge ( slipped disc edition)

My spine is broken as fuck and here I am with a slipped disc again only 6 months after surgery. I don't know how things are going to unfold in the next weeks, so its 4 goals a week, changing up things as necessary.

 

*realizes she is old now and cries softly*

week zero goals:

 

  • build back and stomach muscles by doing bodyweight core workouts daily (as long as it doesnt make the pain worse). Experiment with what's possible. Don't sit for very long.

  • find out whether to keep going with keto or whether to eat a less strict low carb diet. Read recommended book on low carb.

  • move outside with dog as much as possible

  • organize doctors appointment

Sorry to hear about the slipped disc, but I know you've got what it takes to power on through and build up that core strength!

Oh no, a slipped disk! That's going to put a crimp in things. As a fellow old fart with sore, creaky bits, I sympathise. I hope you manage to work around it and that it doesn't develop to be as bad as it was before. BTW, you probably already know this but the exercise the human and the walrus are doing in the gif is not especially great for your back so maybe try and find some equivalent that's less punishing. 

Anyway, backstreet medical advice aside, you've got this dude. Do all those things and do them until they're good and done!

4:30pm here and I crossed some stuff off the goal list:

made doctors appointment with specialist for the 11.1.21... glad its not a long wait✅

walked with a neighbor and Lara: 7k done ✅

downloaded the book on low carb and will start reading tonight 

cleaned the apartment and did some washing.

no sitting at all, lying while I type this...

pain is a 3 out of 10... not dying ;)

 

 

 

still to do:

  • bodyweight stuff.....  even I can get lower than this! come on!

  • drink non alcoholic bubbly and read 

 

will put some food on the stove and do my exercises while I wait for it to be ready.

did exercises like hip bridge, plank, some other back exercises I don't have a name for ( given to me by my PT) for 15 minutes. Pain is worse afterwards. Have taken pain medication now. Must see if its too early to do the exercises... will try again tomorrow. walking didnt hurt at all and I just made a playdate for dog and me to go hiking tomorrow morning. ✅

doc is on holiday until the 4th. will just see how I feel. I guess without a scan you can only guess and try to feel your way around...

hi friends!

I went hiking this morning with friend and have walked 10k ✅today. Dog was mega happy and very noisy! ;) 

 

came home and had lunch and then lay down because my back hurt sitting up for lunch. only 5 mins of PT/BW stuff today✅. right now no pain after taking a painkiller 3 hours ago. Walking is the best thing right now. No pain but movement. We are hiking again on Thursday! tomorrow a friend comes with her dog ( Laras second best friend) and well just chat and have dinner.

 

My hiking partner dropped in again in the afternoon to give me tons of dog food cans she doesnt use. Don't have to buy shit till march! 🤩

 

Finished the low carb book ✅that was recommended to me and realized that rolls and croissants are not to be had even if you eat more carbs... ;) apparently I can only make myself happier with legumes and shit. Decided to go back to keto and maybe add in a few more carbs with stuff like hummus or yoghurt with blueberries. Don't want to go on a completely new program right now. Ill feel great once Ive weaned off the complex carbs.....   And Im so sick of programs and white old men preaching their newest stuff to me....so Im using up all my yummy unhealthy stuff and going to Aldis tomorrow to restock on low carb foods adding in a can of chickpeas for hummus and some greek yoghurt for breakfast. Will probably still be in ketosis adding that in. 

will try the strategy of mixing in new recipes and eating new stuff.✅
