Friday-Saturday 1/15-1/16

1)    Walk outside -  Fridays walk was a short walk after it was already dark, took the long way to the mailbox and back. This morning it was actually pretty pleasant outside for Wisconsin in January so I went for a longer walk, about 1.5 miles.

2)     Yoga - I'm through Day 12 on YWA. Really enjoyed the flow on day 11. Also held a nice deep squat in todays video which was needed.

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - I did not do this last night, but I plan to tonight.

4)      Vitamins - Done

Nothing super notable to report. I did watch the first two episodes of WandaVision. I did not particularly enjoy them.

Spoiler

I actually found it fairly boring. 2 or 3 minor easter eggs to set up future episodes was really all I got from this. If it weren't for Kathryn Hahn, I may not continue watching.

Sunday -Monday 1/17-1/18

Sunday I honestly cannot remember what I did with my whole ass day. I know I baked bread. We have also been discussing remodeling the bedroom acting as a home office to make it more functional, since it seems like we'll be in this position at least part time for a while. So I was searching for interior designers and looking at ideas.

Today was a semi-productive day at work.

Went back to the gym today.

Dynamic Warmup

Activation - body saws, side lying leg lifts, shoulder activation

Power - med ball circuit

Strength circuit 1 - stability ball hamstring curls, reverse crunches, landmine 1 arm press, forward marches w/ sled

strength circuit 2 - goblet step ups, half kneeling med ball slams, lat cable X pull down

conditioning - ski erg 30s:30s (did 4 rds, 476m)

1)    Walk outside -  Both days! Today was chilly brrr 🥶

2)     Yoga - I skipped day 13 to do day 14 on Sunday as it was a longer flow. I plan to do Day 13 now.

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - I forgot last night.

4)      Vitamins - Done! I'm surprised at how easy this one has been.

Tuesday 1/19

Today was a GREAT day at work, I was very productive. My incomplete tasks went from 15 to 6! (specifically those assigned to me for approval in the engineering software).

The only other noteworthy thing to mention. Over the weekend I bid on a few things in a silent auction to raise scholarship funds for local POC and I ended up winning a gift certificate for 2 private yoga lessons! So I'm looking forward to cashing in on those at some point :)

1)    Walk outside -  It was snowing pretty heavily so I skipped

2)     Yoga - Going to do day 15 now. Dav 13 was delightful last night!

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - I did this last night!

4)      Vitamins - Done!

I thought it was clever with its throw back style and shades of bewitched but I agree, overall it is boring. I'm hoping that this is just set up and about to scale up quickly or else this may be a misfire. The only parts I actually enjoyed were the commercials.

Nice and nice! Private lessons means one on one? That could be helpful, since everyone is creaky and tension-bound in a unique way.

Wednesday 1/20 - Monday 1/25

Been a while since I've gotten in for an update.

Wednesday I went to the gym again. I don't recall everything exactly, but I had warmup, core activation, power, then 3 metcon circuits. Otherwise, I enjoyed the inauguration and the festivities on TV. It was a good day.

Thursday the exciting part of the day, was I met my best friend for a walk at lunch time and we walked a few miles and it was lovely to catch up in person with her as it had been a while.

Friday I went to the gym again, repeat of the workout from the previous Thursday. It was easier this time, which is good because that means that it was just deceptively hard the first time as I am slightly untrained right now. The gym owner was impressed that I hopped back in at 3x/week after not coming in for a few months, but I think anything less (or more) would have been harder. Friday afternoon I spent some time on the phone with different interior designers for the home office project. I think I still have some more work/research to do here. In the evening got a phone call from my sister as she was driving through town on the way to my brothers. She stopped by to say hi to me and J, and then as she was on the way out to continue her drive, my mother called her and told her to just spend the night and finish the drive in the am. So I had a surprise sleepover :) We did yoga and hung out and it was good.

Saturday my sister and I woke up early, hit the local coffee shop and then drove out to see my brother, SIL and MY NEW(ish) baby niece!!!! She was born Nov 6, but this was my first time meeting her for COVID reasons and she is just cute as a button!

https://imgur.com/a/CDSmWiU

Hung out with the family all day. Then head back to my place with sister and stopped at a new pakistani restaurant to get takeout as we were both hungry. However, there was a bit of a mix up and the food took a really long time. So by the time we got it and got home and finished eating, it was 8:30, so we had ANOTHER sleepover! lol The food was really good though, will definitely be going back.

Sunday woke up and cleaned the kitchen. Made bagel sandwiches. Did more yoga with sister. Then she left and I did more cleaning. Made soup. Watched ep3 of WandaVision (I saw an article today titled something like "WandaVision is disappointing and everyone is pretending it isn't" and that is exactly how I feel as of right now). Shoveled the driveway in lieu of a walk.

Today was back to the grind. Work. Yoga. Now catching up on forums!

yes, one on one! IT seems like an interesting way to do yoga, as I've only ever done videos or classes so I'm looking forward to it.

1)    Walk outside -  I know at least 3/6 days!

2)     Yoga - I've completed through day 18, then also day 21!

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - I was bad at this, but last night (Sunday) I got back on track.

4)      Vitamins - I didn't on Saturday, but otherwise done.

Tuesday 1/26

Planned to go to the gym at lunch, but we had a snowday! Most schools and daycares were closed today due to ~8" of snow, so my gym was closed as well. Instead did another yoga after work. Made some tempeh tacos, now reading.

1)    Walk outside -  I had a time bookmarked for this in the afternoon in hopes that sidewalks would be shoveled by then and then my meeting ran long 🙃

2)     Yoga - I did day 19 today and really enjoyed it!

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - Done last night!

4)      Vitamins - done!

Eep, so many good things - family time, wins at the gym, lotsa yoga.

I'm liking WandaVision, but I also walked in with absolutely no idea what to expect and very little background on the characters other than the MCU movies. I imagine if I walked in with slightly more background I'd be more let down (also, Kathryn Hahn is a an absolute delight and I'm glad I now know her name).

Wednesday 1/27-Saturday 1/30

Wednesday

Midday workout

Dynamic warmup

Core: body saws, sidelying leg raises, shoulder activation

Power: med ball circuit

Strength1: SB hamstring curls, 1 arm landmine press, reverse crunches, sled march

strength 2: goblet stepups, X-lat pulldown, MB slams

Finisher: ski erg

Thursday

Went to the chiropractor in the morning for adjustment and sauna. Then a haircut. Tried to take a half day off at work, but ended up working 7.5 hours anyways

Made some pasta for dinner and I was so bloated it physically hurt. 😩 Don't know what part it was, but I would like to try to isolate it so that I don't repeat.

Friday

Midday workout

dynamic warmup

Core: 90/90 hip extension to half kneel, forearm inchworm, band walks

Movement: sandbag circuit

Met con1: kneel to stand, oblique crunch, sprints

met con2: speed squats, bent over row, deadlifts (all with the band)

met con 3: box run, engaged leg lifts, mountain climbers

J and I both had a rare night off together! We ordered some pizza and watched the movie Underwater. He then played video games and I watched another movie and fell asleep on the couch, therefore forgetting to do yoga and bedtime stuff.

Saturday

Went to the grocery store in the morning and it was NUTS because snow was on the way. The busiest I had seen it since March. Almost had a panic attack multiple times and was freaking out. It was awful.

Spent the afternoon cleaning out the bathroom and reorganizing the cabinets. It looks nice and tidy now. I then made a fire in the fireplace and have been relaxing doing some reading.

Thanks!

She is so fantastic in everything! I don't have a ton of background info on the characters, I just think the sitcom style didn't work for me. I feel like you have to either have a love for that classic television, or really know and love the characters, and for me it was neither so it came across  bland.

I am very much interested to hear your opinion about Wandavision after watching episode 4.

I thought it was the best of all the episodes thus far! It was nice to actually start figuring things out and not just having the extremely slow burn that the first 3 episodes were. I also was really happy to see Darcy again, she was always a favorite character of mine. Hoping the next episode blends the two styles a bit more, as I think that would be fun.

1)    Walk outside -  I haven't been doing this, but I've been feeling really good getting back to the gym, so I've been feeling it is less necessary

2)     Yoga - Through day 22

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - 3/4

4)      Vitamins - done!

Sunday 1/31 - Thursday 2/4

Sunday

I made buttermilk biscuits from scratch and then ate a biscuit sandwich. Don't remember what I did with a lot of the rest of the day. I did start watching The Leftovers and enjoyed it. As of last night (W) I finished season 1. I think it was still snowy all day, so I stayed in.

Monday

I don't think anything notable, but a pretty meeting packed day at work.  Did yoga.  Probably watched more of the leftovers lol I don't really remember.

Tuesday

I had a WILD day at work. I only had 1/2 hour free from meetings between 8:30-5, so I booked it for myself to take a lunch and went for a walk outside during that time. Also was pretty drained after the day, so I ordered takeout Thai food. Watched more of the leftovers.

Wednesday

My stomach did not enjoy the takeout thai food the following morning. It was unsettled until about 1:30 pm. Was going to go to gym at lunch but pushed it til after work.  The gym has a few of these "challenge workouts" they pull out for various reasons and one guy was doing one of them when I came in.

AFAP

50 cal ski erg

4x25 yd prowler push w/ 40kg

I decided that looked like more fun than the air bike and prowler push I had in my program so decided to swap for this at the end of my workout. We scaled it to 40 cal and 20kg  (male/female). I managed it in 6:11. (For reference, the guy before me was 6:06 and it was his 4th or 5th time doing it). The coach said it was one of the best "first times" he's seen someone complete that, so that was cool. 10/10 would choose over the air bike. ANY DAY.

After gym did a few pogo raids and caught a shiny Raiku, which fucks.

Thursday

Work. Mr. J got his second dose of vaccine yesterday, so he was not doing too hot today so I kept going to check on him. Fever, body aches, fatigue. THE WORKS.  After work did yoga and then had video chat with local nerds.

Goals

1)    Walk outside -  Went for a walk on Tuesday only

2)     Yoga - Through day 26. 4 more days! woo hoo!

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - been doing well here!

4)      Vitamins - done!

Can definitely tell that it is the last week of the challenge because everyone's threads are "I am here." lol

Friday 2/5 - Tuesday 2/9

(I know the challenge ended over the weekend, but I'm going to keep tracking here until I set up my new one)

Friday

I forgot my hat during my lunchtime workout which was frustrating. My hair is too long where I need to do something with it to keep it out of my face, but not long enough where it can be pulled up/back in a tidy manner. Friday evening, I logged off a bit early and went grocery shopping and then J and I hung out in the evening, but I can't recall specifically what we did.

Saturday

Watched MOOORE of the leftovers and actually spent a lot of the day cooking. Made french toast for breakfast, tuna noodle casserole for lunch, and then bbq pulled chicken in the crockpot for dinner with coleslaw. it was yum. Watched the leftovers, like a lot.

Sunday

Superbowl Sunday! Got a massage in the morning and caught up on some reading. Also spent a lot more time cooking lol Did superbowl dip, and then a whole smattering of fixings for nachos, and then brownies. Justin had 1 friend over and the 3 of us ate and watched the game.

Monday/Tuesday

These are seeming to be either my meeting days or my firefighting days. I think I'm just going to have to give into the fact that work will not get accomplished on these two days.

Did day 29 of yoga last night and then gym at lunchtime today for the sandbag workout. Took an epsom salt bath last night which was relaxing.

I finished S2 of the leftovers last night. This show has no business being this good.

Goals

1)    Walk outside -  Did not go for ANY walks as it has been <0F every day

2)     Yoga - Through day 29 one more day! Going to wait until tomorrow as it is a long one at ~50 minutes

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime - this has been slacking I think I did only day

4)      Vitamins - done! This has firmly become a habit again.

CHALLENGE CLOSEOUT

1)      Walk outside daily

Sunshine and light are one of the things that help with SAD. Get outside for a 10 minute walk 5x/week. The ideal is daily, but I’m giving myself some grace here to navigate the frozen tundra.

I'm not going back and counting, but it was definitely not 5x/week. I am ok with where I landed though, as this was primarily to help with SADD, which I think some of the other things on this list helped with, and also going back to the gym a few times a week. I did manage a few walks here and there! They also have done a piss poor job of shoveling sidewalks in my neighborhood which makes this difficult to want to do.

2)      Movement

Lately I’ve just not been feeling like intense workouts are serving me well. I’ve noticed a few other rebels are doing Yoga with Adriene 30 day challenge so I will be completing that as well. Goal to complete by the end of the challenge, not necessarily 30 days in a row.

I did not finish by the end of the challenge, but I completed 28/30, which I am still calling a win! Had I not started going back to the gym as well, I'm confident that completing all 30 would have been a breeze. I have been noticing more where I carry my tension throughout the day. I have also noticed improvements in many of the poses throughout, including plank, downward dog, and forward fold.

3)      Floss and skin care at bedtime

At some point I was very good at flossing and having a nighttime routine. I have since gotten out of that routine, but would desperately like to get back into it. Brush, floss, wash and moisturize before bed.

This was very hit and miss. I need to carry this forward into the next challenge to really make this a habit.

4)      Vitamins

More research is coming out that those who are having the worst symptoms of COVID-19 are deficient in vitamin D. In general I’d like to keep my immune system as healthy as possible until we get through this. I will take a daily multivitamin and vitamin D supplement.

I have been a rockstar at this goal. So much so that I had to order more multivitamins and crack open the reserve D.

Overall I'm really happy with where I landed, even if I didn't meet my goals as I had them laid out. My SADD is also feeling a lot better as well. Overall I'll give it a B+!

Hellll yes. I... may put biscuits on my weekend plans now.

Oooo. Snaps. 👏

Loool, so true.

Well HOW did the biscuits go? :) I was actually thinking of making some more tonight/tomorrow as I have buttermilk leftover that I should use before it goes bad.  If you have any other suggestions for buttermilk though, I'm all ears!

Oh my gosh, so many good things - homemade biscuits, killin' it at a challenge workout, and Mr. J being fully vaccinated (side effects less fun, of course).

Lol, it's a mood.

At least y'all aren't alone in the last week challenge blues :P

Thanks!

Fun fact:  I named my Vulpera Elemental Shaman (who pew-pews lightning bolts) Raiku completely without knowing there was a pokemon of the same name who also pew-pews lightning bolts.

Congrats on your baby niece! The photos won't load for me and I am very sad.

this sounds heavenly!

This not so fun.. Sorry you had to deal with that!

Hope he's feeling better? Does NOT sound fun.

Oh no! Well you will have to take my word for it that she is very cute. :)

Yes Mr J is actually feeling much better. I think he has had one of the stronger reactions. He had all of his side effects for a total of about 48 hours. He felt generally pretty lousy all day Thursday, and woke up Friday still not feeling 100%, but around the afternoon/early evening he was back to his usual.

Thanks!

I didn't manage to get the biscuits together -- store was out of buttermilk and my favorite biscuit recipe obviously calls for it (last one on the page). I do have some heavy cream I'm going to use for scones.

Buttermilk pancakes are always a great option. Or fried chicken. /eyebrow waggle.

I need you to teach me this! ;)

Seemed like a solid challenge, the not walking at those temperatures can definitely be excused and you absolutely aced picking movement back up after your work related hiatus. Well done 😘

Thank you!!!!!

I think the key for me was having them set on in the center of the counter right in the way, so that when I try to do any cooking they are hard to ignore. So then it reminded me and I usually took them out of the container and placed on my plate/bowl before I put the food in.
