LIGHTH0USE's Renaissance

Backstory

LIGHTH0USE got his name back in June 2019 during a 75km GORUCK Star Course in Normandy, France (technically in the article his name was Flex, but the guild MRC never made it official). Though his story started much earlier in a town surrounded by nature. Back in his youth, he already did ridiculous feats such as traveling daily 30km+ to education/friends via bike. Or spent most of his waking hours out in nature.

 

As society has deemed onto most of us, he was forced to move to a concrete jungle, where he lost all his natural roots. Luckily he was forced to leave this environment and move back to the country side, though the habits he has created while living in the concrete jungle persisted.

 

2018 was the year a major shift happened where LIGHTH0USE gave up his passion of biking and replaced it with long distance rucking. He would start rucking either to or fro to academy, which is a 10 mile one-way journey and achievable within 2.5h. He even attempted his first 40km ruck and totally overestimated his abilities. Additionally he joined the guild MRC, where he was introduced to the sport of ruck exercises.

 

2019 was the year where his newly acquired passion was taken to a new level. LIGHTH0USE did a wide range of crazy feats such as a 50km ruck with 1000m altitude gain (without weight/ with weight). First time without weight and solo, and second time with a partner and with 30# dry weight. Doing a 40km solo night ruck. Breaking his PR of 73km.

 

Though all these feats stopped once 2020 arrived. In the beginning, the rucking still persisted while having the goal of breaking 2020 miles within the year and made it to 275 miles by mid-February and then Covid-19 happened. Within no time all motivation was thrown out of the window and all previous skills were lost. And if that wasn't bad enough, LIGHTH0USE lost so much weight that his BMI fell into underweight-range. He had no or little motivation to do anything at all.

Spring and summer did help to get him outside, but it never lasted more than a week or two and then returned to his hermit habitat. Luckily in mid-summer he came across a new world where you can use your digital device to catch creatures know as Pokemon. This brought a whole new joy of leaving the house to get these creatures. It even made him get 500 ruck clicks in till the end of the year.

 

Today

In 2019, LIGHTH0USE would say

this ruck would be anywhere from 20-30km. Today, 20km are hard to achieve. Though one should mention that back in 2019 it was all done without additional weight, and today it is all done with 30# dry weight.

The Return of Past Glory

QUESTS

QUEST: The Muscle Up

Goal: achieve 1 muscle up

Sub-Goals:

  • 10 strict pull-ups
  • 20 straight bar dips
  • 30 dead hang knee raises

Backstory: This goal has never been achieved, though the sub-goals have been achieved. The only missing step was to combine these three movements together.

 

QUEST: 7-Day 12-Miler Challenge

Goal: achieve a 12-Miler everyday for a week with 30# dry weight

Sub-Goals:

  • 3x 12-Milers per week for a potential challenge
  • 3x 12-Milers on consecutive days
  • two weeks worth of alternating 12-Milers and rest days

Backstory: This goal has never been achieved, though 12-Milers used to be the norm of an easy distance.

 

QUEST: 12-Miler Sandbag Carry

Goal: achieve a 12-Miler with 30# dry weight plus 40# sandbag

Sub-Goals:

  • 3-Miler with 40# sandbag
  • 6-Miler with 40# sandbag
  • 9-Miler with 40# sandbag

Backstory: This goal has never been achieved, though a 3-Miler with 40# sandbag has been achieved in the past.

 

QUEST: The GORUCK Selection Standard

Goal: achieve the GORUCK Selection Standard

The Standard consists of:

  • 12-Miler within 3.5h with 30# dry weight
  • 5-Mile run within 40min
  • 55 push-ups within 2min
  • 65 sit-ups within 2min

Backstory: This goal has never been achieved, though having the potential of participating in a GORUCK Selection is a dream.

 

QUEST: 100km within 24h

Goal: achieve a 100km ruck within 24h with at least 20# dry weight

Sub-Goals:

  • 25km within 6h
  • 50km within 12h
  • 75km within 18h

Backstory: This goal has never been achieved, though 75km within 20h has been achieved.
