In the meanwhile, I think I'm going to try and track progress and achievements on this page, as a way to help me check in more often. I'm also dipping my toe in the Druids' camp, given my desire for prayer and for balance. But I am grateful for the Rebels I've connected with, so I'm keep one foot in both camps for now. Chesire Posted February 13, 2021 Report Share Posted February 13, 2021 I hesitate to throw myself out there as an accountabilibuddy because I'm not completely reliable to check in online; sometimes it's the thing that is one thing too many for the day. But I promise to try to check in on your feed a few times per week. And, just maybe, that means I'll check in with mine too. I love that you made the fast food allowance part of your challenge! It can be so much easier to have the better-for-you thing today when you know you get the treat tomorrow. Do you have a specific plan to achieve your sleep goal? Reading to unwind? Bed time and awake time? Etc Do this thing! My sleep goes sideways, usually once a week. I love the "second sleep" idea, that biologically people have gone to sleep, awakened for a few hours, and then gone back to sleep. That describes me to a T. Problem is, I can't always sleep a little later to make up for the midway break. But generally I try to go to sleep when my wife does, around 10, and either I'm whooped enough to just go to sleep, or I read for a bit until my eyes droop. (I'm just realizing how many "oo" I've used in these few lines!) I don't quite buy the idea that people would go visiting in the middle of the night as some of them asserted. How do you know your neighbor is on the same schedule as you?? Among other considerations. Anyway.... You've recognized the situation, that helps. Now, how to work with it instead of fighting it? Barring the work grief days, of course. Do you have a plan to work with those wakeful spells? I'd hazard a guess that aforementioned book would come into play until eyes drooped again. I hadn't heard about visiting in the middle night, but I figure that's how people wrote so many books (ha!) and letters. If it is late enough in the week and my sermon is bubbling, I'll often get up and write it - even if I'm then pooped the next day. So I hit it for quite a while, and was left pretty tired afterward. But I still had a bit of time before dinner, and so I thought I'd see if I could get some exercise in. Next thing I knew, I got my whole workout in (pull day)! And I've read enough classic novels in which people go to bed after midnight and are up around dawn in the spring and summer. Well...honestly, it has been a crappy week in many ways, but I've been doing well with my walks, averaging 39 minutes a day this week! The walks, especially a couple on some rare sunny days, have probably helped it not be an even crappier week! I guess my high-end hope is the kind of partnership where folks check in really regularly with each other, with honest "this is how I walked my walk today," "this is what I did" or 'this is what I ate" kinds of things. Really knowing someone was there and paying attention. I occasionally hear about such partnerships/relationships, and am always in awe. But as I say, that is the deep end of the hope pool, and know something less may be the best I can hope for, or at least where any relationship can start. As for my walk, these days I've been able to mix in some outdoor walks with the treadmill - Netflix on my tablet sure helps the time pass on that mouse wheel! Might get back on the walk to Mordor wagon next challenge. juliebarkley Posted March 4, 2021 Report Share Posted March 4, 2021 Walk to Mordor... I think I haven't updated mine for more than a year. 😬 Hmm, the accountability partnership thing is interesting. I lucked into someone who had the same workout days as me early in my time on NF, and we would remind/check in with each other. It really did help. (We are no longer on the same workout schedule.) I am useless for getting walks done till the snow is gone, but it is a daily thing for me for the rest of the year. As of last night, 25 miles to the end of my first Walk to Mordor! So, depending on lots of things... maybe a week to finish? Enjoy the warm days. You talk of your first Walk to Mordor, but I need to start thinking about my next trip. I've "walked" across the US, the Camino de Santiago, Appalachian Trail, and a few others. I think I've gotten spoiled, because when I see a trail is only a few hundred miles, I think, "ah, it will be over too soon"!
