The Restart: Liz - The Beginning

Recommended Posts

New to this whole nerd rebellion thing. Thought I'd join the five week challenge, but remembered about a week late.... And now here we are. :)

I'm excited to interact with this community and hopefully start actually hitting my goals! Speaking of goals:

My Goals!

1. Workout - My goal is to workout at least three times a week. As well as making sure I do something somewhat active on the in between days.

2. Vitamins - To actually take my vitamins and other things every day.

Spoiler

> Mental health is kinda a struggle, so making sure I take my stuff for that can sometimes be a battle in itself...

3. Water - According to the tracking app thing I have I should be getting about 71 oz of water per day.  So that is my goal. :)

> Happy side note: I get to grow happy little flowers while tracking my water, so yay!

4. Read - I used to read ALL THE TIME!!! But then high school happened....and two more degrees later I finally somewhat have time to get back to reading. I'd like to read at least a page or two every day (setting a small goal for the days I don't have a ton of time).

Spoiler

I had a journal I started a few weeks ago to help with fighting depression, and unfortunately I left it about 6 hours from my house and have no clue when I'll see it again. (along with all my colored pens.... 😕 )

I guess here goes nothing!

(Since it's Monday, and I forgot to track like anything today, Imma start this week on Tuesday. I also haven't included Sunday into my "daily" counts, so my week tallies will only include Mon-Sat) ---> Which means that this "week" will only have 5 days counted in it...

Update: February 23-27

1. WO - Got in 1 out of the 3 I wanted to this week

2.  V - Took my vitamins every day this week. Pretty proud of myself, cause that usually doesn't happen!

3. W - I drank all the water for the day 4/5 days this week :)  (also doesn't usually happen)

4. R - I "read" 4/5 days this week. [I listened to an audio book, but I'm counting that for now.]

Spoiler

My mental health declined a lot as the week went on, which made finding the motivation to workout or read the one day I missed really difficult.

I'm hoping this week will be better mentally.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how well I'll be able to workout this week, as I had small surgery on my back (nothing major, but it's painful for sure).

So, more than zero WO's.  That's good.  You know this week is a lost cause as you heal.  Oh, well.  Maybe just plan on walking?  Or actively choose adapt to that adjustment another way?  I say actively so it becomes a thoughtful choice and not a passive thing that rolls over you.  My own mental health trick that I use a LOT.

Virtual high fives (they're safe on the internet :) )  on all the other efforts!  I always count audio books as reading, and boo to anyone who says otherwise.  Whatcha readin'?

I’m counting the hauling of tables for work yesterday as a workout 😂 (probably shouldn’t have done it, but I did, so......)

I’m reading A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers

It’s been such a good book so far! I’m almost done with it (I think it’s like 21 hours long 😅)

I forget exactly when it’s set, but I think it’s about 700 AD or so. It’s the first one in the Mark of the Lion series. I’m excited to continue the series....after I finish a physical book I borrowed from a friend.

Update: March 1-6

1. WO - If I count the moving of tables and other heavy things (the same day that I had work done on my back 😅), then I made 1/3.

I wasn't expecting much this week, with the whole back thing and honestly, I don't feel terrible about it. Ready for these stitches to come out (hopefully Friday!!!) and hopefully starting into an actual workout the following week 🙃

2. V - Took my vitamins almost every day. I thought I'd be fine without them this weekend, but honestly I feel bleh... My joints ache and my anxiety has been pretty bad the past couple days.... 😕

[so note to self: at least take the ones to help with mental stuff....]

3. W - Water was a bit of a struggle this week, especially over the weekend. I got all of my water in 2 days and most of it in for like 3 days, so that's not terrible, just not what I wanted.

4. R - I read 4/6 days this week and I finished the audio book! I felt pretty good about finishing it and I really look forward to reading (or listening to) the next book in that series, which apparently I own. 😂🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately, before I can read it, I need to finish a book I borrowed from a friend about a year ago. So into middle earth, etc. I go as I finish reading the Silmarillion! :)

Nice work all around - you did something in each category this week which is definitely a win!

The Simarillion is an undertaking! But totally worth it. Enjoy!

Thank you! I'm honestly happy with this week; more than I thought I'd be.

And it honestly is! I'm about 30% of the way through it and I've enjoyed it, but it's definitely NOT a light read 😂😅  Looking forward to finishing it though!

Thanks! :) I've found it so amazing here so far! Do you have an idea of what you want to read?

Ahhhh that's embarassing! It was supposed to be on my challenge thread, not yours!!! I have no idea how that happened... But yes, that's me haha. I shall now shift that gif over to my own thread and stop hijacking yours!!

As for reading, I have a friend who writes 40k novels and I've always meant to read one, so working on that for the time being. But I also have a host of books on vikings and also sci fi books I bought last year but haven't read (including Dune, which is a beast!)

I have not read The Simarillion  yet, but I'm just finishing up LOTW as I'm wrapping up my Walk to Mordor.  I've only allowed myself to read as far as I'd walked for each checkpoint.  Slowest reading ever.

Looks like you've made some pretty good headway on your goals.  Nice.

Strongly seconding this. Books are books!

Welcome to the Rebellion! Way to go with the vitamins and water. Those are two things I'm working on now too. I've been missing my vitamins a lot lately and not drinking nearly enough water on the weekends. I mostly do better at work (eyes full water bottle on desk )*mostly* (pause for drink)

I tend to read in binges and then not read anything for weeks, so this year I'm working on reading a little bit of something every day. Slow and steady wins the race and all that.

The Simarillion is a beast. I've never made it the whole way through, but one of these days...currently rereading LotR along with my Walk to Mordor. Kind of doing the same as Cheshire and trying to match my reading with my walking, but I think I'll aim to finish the series the same time I get to Mordor and then work on Simirallion on my way way back to the Shire.

LOL! That's great though!

Excuse my ignorance 😅 What are 40k novels??? Those sound interesting :) The viking ones sound like good reads too!

What is this Walk to Mordor you speak of? Sounds like a great adventure! lol

I'm pretty much the same way with reading. I'm trying to stay ontop of actually reading more. I used to ALL the time, but it's harder with work and stuff. (planning a wedding doesn't help time wise either! 😅)

The Walk to Mordor is an app where you can input the distance you covered that day (biking, walking, swimming, whatever method you want) and track how far along you are on Frodo's path.  Personally, I've only done my organized fitness and dog walking miles, but I know some people track basically all the steps for their day.  :)  And it's free!

I wasn't a huge fan of the app, just found it a little awkward. I have a spreadsheet I use to track my miles now. We also have a thread for anyone doing the challenge

Cool! Sounds great! I want to get into the habit of running, so maybe this would be a good motivator? lol

Update: March 8-13

1. WO - 3/3!!! With having stitches in my back for most of the week it wasn't easy to actually work out, but I did a small work out one day and counted some heavy lifting as a work out (and also the 9 hours I spent on my feet making cinnamon rolls 😂)

2. V - 5/6 I don't remember why I didn't get them in one day, but I still count this as a win!

3. W - 3/6 Not sure what to say about this. Most of the days I missed I had most of my water in that day :)

4. R - 5/6 Audio books are great! lol I think I finished two of them this past week. (The Viper's Nest [reading through the 39 Clues books, cause they're nice short ones to listen to while knitting. lol] and The Magician's Nephew) Haven't hardly touched the Silmarillion....really need to start on that... 😅

The Final Week: March 15-20

WO - I  actually did all three workouts I wanted to this week!!! Including an extra run!!!! :)

V - 4/6 Not much to say here.

W - 2/6 Didn't do so well with water intake this week. It's starting to get warmer, which has helped a little bit, and the days that I worked out also helped. I'm hoping that the warm weather will continue to help me with remembering to drink water. lol

R - 4/6 Finished a book and started reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Got a little further in the Silmarillion as well. :)

This challenge definitely showed me the things I need to work on more, but also what I can change to make things easier/better. Looking forward to continuing with this great community and hopefully interacting more :)
