Athena focuses on the physical

Well, guys, I think I can officially say my first (forehead) wrinkle is a fact. Almost 27, I think most of my friends got them around then too. It is in a place where it always kind of WANTED to fold anyway, when I would be dehydrated or so.

I noticed how old my face is starting to look in the home gym mirrors a short while ago.  Almost saw my father for a second (didn't like that), but definitely have forehead wrinkles and crowsfeet starting to settle in.   It's not even so much the age (34)... it's the mileage 🤣

I had a forehead wrinkle that started to settle in when I was around 20...I am now 27 and still sometimes get carded. I wouldn't worry too much about it. They seem to be pretty common, especially if you are rather expressive with your face. I have found a good skincare routine seems to help, and helps stave off friends from joining it. But ultimately, I am very expressive with my eyes and eyebrows, and it just happens from all the brow furoughing and movement.

Haha I have always noticed it is more the energy, I guess. When I am all equanimous and dressed less cutesy and more preppy I get aged higher than when I am super excited and such.

I don't mind at all, it is more that I was not expecting to feel not-neutral-or-positive emotions about it. I want to enjoy the process. :) But I will let these feelings be. Not try to mind game them into something positive / push them away before they are ready to leave me (or whatever it is that I am doing that I always thought was actually letting things go).

But yeah, also very expressive person here. :)

Natural white/light silver hair is sooo stunning! Pretty sure my gray will be some manky color haha. I wish I'd see more natural grays though, I can't think of any women in my family where I even know their natural hair colour. It's kinda sad really.

Weeeellll, I am also kinda pro-molding your body and so on into whatever you like if it strikes YOUR fancy, and if you can be arsed to do that all the time & get joy out of it, buuut I somehow doubt that is the case with the individuals you mention :(

Spoiler

And by that I mean, sure we are all conditioned to some extent, but if I examine my feelings and take the time to sort out societal expectations and what I really get a kick out of... (Even if it's being found hot/beautiful, and going for societal expectations from a place of inner confidence, but just playing around with what I can get myself to look like,

which is still external affirmation but still different than if you are doing it out of hate for your body for not fitting in/being enjoyed. Tricky line, that.)

And determine that I want to look like I am forever young, that's fine. It's like a hobby for painting, or enjoying statues and makeovers if you go the plastic surgery route.

But I am personally looking forward to the process of being able to see how much I have laughed in life and so on.

OKAY LET'S GO, AGAIN, FOCUS, ASSIGNMENT !

So am I, but we do live in an extremely youth-loving/age-phobic society and hiding gray hairs in 99.99% of cases is just hiding gray hairs, and not having fun with hair colour. I get the impression that even the idea that gray hair can be beautiful is a fairly recent one.

Maybe it's fine, but I just don't see it coming from a healthy place. And plastic surgery should absolutely not be seen as a hobby IMO. I'm not against it, people can do whatever they want and there are many reasons why someone would want to go down that road. But many plastic surgeries are serious business - highly invasive with very real risks.

Hmmm, after enough inner work I don't see a huge difference with extreme body mods like black eyes or loads of piercings :D It's all invasive and risky. Jumping from a plane, too. But why not if someone wants to, with high quality phyicians/good parachute instructors + high quality and checked parachutes?

Not the best comparison I know 😂 back to the drawing boaaarddd

I meant that wanting to look young forever doesn't typically come from a healthy place, IMO. Removing a few wrinkles here and there might make someone look a few years younger, but it's kinda delusional to think that dying their hair or plastic surgery will somehow magically make someone truly look young again... Looking at my family for example, they all come from a society and generation where there's a huge amount of body shaming among women, and the concept of ageing gracefully is practically unheard of.  On the flip side, the youngest looking old people I've seen are pretty much always the most active, healthy ones, independent of their hair colour or wrinklage. And let's not even get into the fact that men are exempt from the "need" of looking young...

As for wanting to mod your body through plastic surgery, sure. As I already said, there are plenty of reasons for it, some better, some worse (in my opinion), but they're all valid. Either way who am I to judge? 🤷‍♀️ My objection was only to treating it as a hobby (which I believe in those cases are more like compulsions tbh). I'd just think twice before starting a "hobby" which involves general anaesthesia and weeks of recovery. That's not in any way equatable to getting a piercing. And I'm pretty sure that the number of people using plastic surgery as a form of self expression is staggeringly low... And I just don't see how it compares to skydiving at all.

Personally, I'm pretty sure I'd only do it if it meant making A LOT of cash in return. 😄 But I'm not in any relevant industry, nor am I planning on it haha.

My mother's hair went grey first, then silver. The grey was okay, but the silver was beautiful. When I am old, I will be a glorious winter crone with pale skin, pale eyes, and thick pale hair that reaches to my hips. People will stare. It's going to take some time, though: so far I only have two silver hairs out of about 100,000.

You're someone who has to live in our society and withstand intense cultural and capitalist pressure to spend money or harm yourself to meet a shifting and impossible beauty standard, that's who. That's a nice way to look at it! As long as I don't get to sixty and find out I frowned a lot 😅 Anyway, I wish you some of the awesome crone vibes that can arrive in the thirties, of gloriously not-giving-a-fuck. May you be blessed with cool equanimity and an unshakable sense of worth that comes from within.

Oh I judge the system alright! But I'm not going to judge someone for their body dysmorphia, or for making a shit ton of money from exploiting said system.

An important distinction. I would definitely judge people who make money off exploiting others' insecurities, though!

Absolutely, I was thinking porn stars and cosplayers and the like, which I don't feel fall quite into that category.

Back in the day, yes! Never got very deep into academia or did a PhD (thankfully), but in my previous job I was working as a physicist at a medical software company, specifically for radiation therapy. Then life stuff happened and I ended up a mere code monkey LOL.

I now wish I could become an unemployed hermit. 😂

Yes, this is a great achievement as well, but we must not forget THE REST that empowers women, like glittered crop tops 😋

Agreed :) And I did get what you were saying, I just wanted to say my thoughts aloud (see them on a screen). I guess I have some more thinking to do :D

Frown wrinkles look fierce, especially bespectacled frown wrinkles. Like you have always been very critical and thoughtful. So, there, no worries! In all cases, for all of us. As long as this suit of flesh and bones does not hurt too much as we grow older, because that would suck (but we will still rock).

(I say, as I follow the infamous J. Star's advice to use sunglasses as a wrinkle-prevention mechanism lol. Ah, I am allowed to be a bit hypocritical, okay!)

So late to the party. I like to think that wrinkles are just scars from a life of living and loving and doing. That being said, I am also fairly fond of being more like this.
