Okay, but what about our needs for for iftar pictures? It was really very irresponsible of you to get your usual order and you should rethink your lifestyle. We have needs too.

I knooooooow - I’m holding out that I can trick him into at least 1 more before Ramadan is out. I have so much curiosity!

Weekend

Friday was fine - popped up into (wall) handstand 3x; elbow has been feeling better on the days I do my pull work. Food was probably terrible?

Saturday went for my walk, ordered waaaay too much sushi for lunch, DH had his game stream.

Sunday had our normal mall walk, leftover sushi for dinner.

I’ve managed to constrain myself to 2 Reese’s this weekend. Watched Mortal Kombat with popcorn for dinner one night.

I fell off the tracking wagon. Not sure where I am with that - I’m hella lazy and don’t know if i have the bandwidth.

I also spent a chunk of time over the weekend making a bunch of Instagram templates for DH’s streaming; now to schedule them. We even have a social media schedule now. #officialandshit

On to the new week!

Good? Bad? Okay? Reminded you of...?

I like the idea of a Mortal Kombat movie, but all efforts before this one have been... "meh" is the kindest word that comes to mind.

It was ... fine? I didn’t really play the games much as a kid, so I don’t have the deep and abiding love of the franchise DH has - there was more and less plot than expected - more plot than a video game, less plot than a movie movie. They did away with the song until a remix of it at the end, so that was disappointing. The song is all I remember from the other movie, if in fact I have seen it. I don’t remember.

Monday

Yoga classes are still all screwy from Ramadan + Zoom, so I’ve only got them scheduled for Tues, and double classes Fri. Today, I busted out the TRX strap and did a run-though of 70% of the full body circuit I downloaded. 70% because the way in which my straps are set, I can’t get down low enough for a push-up or side plank without more effort than I want to expend.

I also downloaded Darebee’s new arms program - hoping to add that in; between the two, I think I’ll be doing good for “pull” and should burn enough calories that if I am reasonable with food, my weight should slowly trend downward.

Did a bunch of Instagram post template creation for the new DH schedule, scheduled this week’s social media posts for that.

Caught up on some YouTube, did a bunch to my Island.

Our ramen delivery came. Made that for dinner, managed to not crack either bowl. It was good - not as flavorful as the last kind, but still delicious.

Tuesday

Caught up with my Houseparty coffee friends, ducked out to the grocery for a quick cleaning supplies run, Crossed Animals, did my functional class, and tested the streaming setup for Sekiro - played through a bit of that (unnecessarily, I might add) so I’d at least have a weapon to start with for tomorrow’s stream. Dinner was Taco Tuesday. Lunch was good but less good than the last batch Chinese from the grocery.

Didn’t do my TRX workout - I don’t know why I keep trying to schedule more things on Tuesdays. I love my friends and hanging out with them virtually is much less draining than IRL (though with IRL, I’ve got more motivation to keep moving), but I need some serious down and recharge time before my yoga class at 4pm. It’s all I can do to make dinner ahead of class so it’s ready for DH when he gets home either right after my class or right before it ends.

Was also hella sore from Monday’s workout - my forearms are tired, my back is tired, my thighs are tired. My elbow is also quite stiff - still judging to see if I should go for another round today and risk the worst DOMS day falling on Handstand practice day or should I push off to tomorrow - or should I just chill and do the already potentially killer two classes in one day on a handstand day this week and add a second TRX next week and third the week after.

Part of my brain says slow building is more sensible, given I’m prone to injury; the other part says stop being a wuss or you’ll never progress. DOMS aren’t necessarily the kind  damage it takes weeks/months to recover from. Also: living in some level of DOMS pain did not kill you the last time you were working out consistently; working through daily wrist pain did not kill you and probably didn’t make it any worse; you are not an invalid; just anxiety riddled.

Hmmm ... sounds like I need to set the TRX up. Missed my 11am workout alarm, but I can go after I rinse the dye out of my hair and have lunch.

I feel like I did something else yesterday, too, but I can’t remember what it was. Chatted with one of my besties for a bit. Contemplated tackling big reorganization projects in the kitchen and closet, but am *still* waiting on word to see if we are moving in June or not, so I’m kinda on hold there. I’ve been thinking about what kind of redecorating I could do to this place if we end up staying, and I’m not 100% sold on anything I’m thinking of. All the artwork has to stay; I have space to hang 1 more thing but it has to be feather light and may come crashing down when the humidity kicks up; the built-ins have to stay - I can switch out the knickknacks, do something different to the dining table, reorder the shit on top of the credenza, and redo the hall shelf, but that’s about it.

Also debating on whether or not to try and change the shape of my pothos. He’s one of 3 plants that have made it through the gauntlet that is living in my house with me as a carer, and he’s doing well - he’s in a fricking huge pot, but poor guy isn’t really getting to trail anywhere. I have half a mind to get a stick for him to run up, trim him way back, and try and propagate babies. Maybe I’ll just have a house full of pothos with one palm that’s limping along. And more fake plants to keep my eucalyptus company.

Wednesday

Made a riff on a Nom Nom Paleo quick char seu for dinner - worked pretty well with chicken. Did a few rounds of squat pulls and side pulls with the TRX. Hair dye & makeups for my big Sekiro stream debut. Failed miserably to kill the first medium bad guy ... for an hour and a half ... while friends ragged on me. It was all in fun, but man do my hands hurt from the controller.

Crossed some Animals, snuggled some pups, bopped around the house tidying a bit, was super excited that the new laundry additive I impulse purchased at the grocery worked to brighten tf out of my couch quilt & got the splashed sauce off my only white tee. #winning

Also typed a new recipe for a chai spiced baked oatmeal breakfast.

To be fair, the PS4 controller is an ergonomic menace whose design team appears to have completely ignored the fact that a large number of modern gamers really want and need controllers to be available in adult sizes. (A bold business strategy when you stop to consider that we grownup gamers have more money than kid gamers do.)

The PS5 controller is better. The large Xbox controllers that work so well in Windows 10, are awesome.

The size of the PS5 controller is what’s killing my hands - I’m used to using the Switch controller - or, if my hands or wrists are bugging me, breaking out the Joy Cons. All of those are in a much better position for my hands. Also: I’m using like 9,000 buttons with this game and absolutely hate having to do so. Super uncomfortable.

Have I also mentioned I’m not a gamer? I never got over Nintendo Thumb in the 80s. I do not have the muscle memory to build on.

That makes perfect sense. My controller preferences are just that - personal preferences, based on the size of my hands, what they are used to doing, and the fact I have tendinitis in one wrist. A person with different sized hands that used to other tasks, will have another preference.

I still maintain that the poor ergonomics of the PS4 controller are not personal preference though. If your hands are too large for the controller it forces the wrist to sit at an angle that is just begging for trouble.

I remember DH being all up in arms about it pretty much the entire run of the PS4. Of course, he was coming from XBox land and his Uber fancy controller with extra parts that kept leaving themselves around the living room. 😆

Thursday

Moar TRX work. I did 2 solid rounds throughout the day - both made me a touch sweaty and out of breath - and a couple extra squat pull rounds for good measure.

It wasn’t a yoga day, so didn’t do that. Discussed more about DH’s Twitch thing, frittered about the rest of the day, made soyrizo hash for dinner to use up some of the aggressive amount of zucchini that came in my grocery delivery this last week. I wanted 1. Minimum order: 1 kilo. Needless to say, I have zucchini & green beans almost tumbling out of the fridge still. I may not have to grocery shop next week.

Also got word on the new apartment - it’s not happening and we are stuck here another year. I’m disappointed, but will live. I’ll be doing a little redecorating, though.

Ugh. Sorry about the apartment!

Better luck next year?

Hopefully? Who knows. The contract is up next year, so that’s either going to be a to-the-wire mess of scrambling, or we’ll be working with a new company. We shall see and it’s not worth worrying about.

First up for here: hit Ikea and the other home store to see if there is a more closed-in solution for the open “junk” shelf. Find some more cute fake plant parts and pots for decoration. Either do away with the current bedsheet couch covers or try and find something less ghetto. New sheets in a different color. Maybe break down and get a rug. Something new for the dining room table to spruce that area up.

I’m thinking more golds to tie in the existing golds, and sticking with my blues palette - adding concrete and more wood to the darkish wood we’ve got going.

Friday

My double classes went well - I was exhausted, but popped up into handstand 4x so it’s not all bad.

Chatted with my brother a bit - ok; mostly ranted at them because I was overly excited to talk psychology, but that’s ok.

Food was good - may have had a bit too much dinner, but I was starving and it wasn’t as satisfying as I wanted (I wanted a burger - I had leftover soyrizo hash).

Saturday

Didn’t do too terribly much - DH had livestreams at 8am & 5pm; I skipped my walk to corral the dogs into the bedroom for the last pre-lunch chunk of his first stream, and I participate in the second. The whole house napped and vegged between the two. Lunch was a big American burger from Outback. Skipped actual dinner in favor of the tiny vegan ice cream I had languishing in the freezer. Breakfast was oats & berries; had emergency beef jerky pre lunch.

How is it Zero Week already?

I have no idea how I actually fared on my stated goals. Still languishing. A bit of plodding.

Yoga mostly happened; I mixed in some TRX work to varying degrees of success; tried not to overeat with varying degrees of success there; have fared fairly well through this mini lockdown - it certainly makes Ramadan more manageable.

On to the next .... sometime this week. I’ll have a ponder about any new goals. Ramadan ends on the 13th (allegedly); we’ll be fully vaccinated by Week 1 (hopefully); and it looks like we will be staying in Current Apartment.

Mini lockdown should stretch the next 3 weeks at least - not sure about after that. Not sure if we will be traveling or no.
