The Jedi Chronicles Ep. 11: De Profundis Ad Astra

Recommended Posts

De profundis ad astra - from the depths to the stars

It’s been.. A heck of a year. On one hand, I’ve discovered something that brings me joy. I’ve grown a lot, and I’ve started to develop some better coping mechanisms. Slowly - but it’s coming. On the other hand, I’ve had a lot of painful disappointments, serious anxiety issues, and the worst injury I’ve ever had - which sidelined me for close to 2 months.

I chose this title for a couple of reasons. I’ve hit some all time lows in the past 12 months. But I’ve kept climbing out of the hole. Even when I slip, when I lose ground, when I end up worse off than where I started, I keep going. The true measure of strength is the ability to keep on striving. I’ve kept the stars in my view and continued to climb. Even when the clouds hide the stars, I’ve kept going because the stars are still there on the other side of the clouds.

Things won’t get better unless I work for them. So I just have to keep on working!

I’ve really managed to make some positive changes. I’m drinking more water on a regular basis now, and I have a decent schedule (mostly).

As Morrigan said in A Court of Mist and Fury: “There are good days and hard days for me even now - don’t let the hard days win.”

Don’t let the hard days win, guys.

My goals for this challenge:

Working Out
I can finally start working out again! I can play BeatSaber without aggravating my ankle too badly, so I’ll start doing that regularly. It’s not strength building, but I can start getting my heart rate up a bit and moving more.

I also think I might be cleared to climb by later in this challenge. Which is H U G E for me!!! I miss it so much. I’m going to go later this week to take my belay proficiency test, so I’ll at least be able to belay for Mr. Right so he can go more frequently. When I do, I’m going to plan to at least get on the wall. Even if I only really get a few feet up, I can start building my strength up again.

My goal is at least twice a week, but ideally 4x/week.

Each BeatSaber session or Climbing adventure will be (1) point.

Other strength or cardio activities done can also give points, depending on the activity, at my own discretion.

Cooking Healthy Meals
Now that I’m in the habit of cooking, I’m going to make a point to cook meals that are primarily healthy. Mostly this just involves using Mealime. But I have other good, healthy foods as well. One marker of a healthy meal is both protein and veggies. Carbs and sauces are fine, but I want to make sure that there’s a source or protein in every meal and a source of fruits/veggies.

My goal for this is at least twice a week, but preferably 3 times. I can also receive points for doing batch prep work for myself and/or my husband.

Each healthy meal cooked is (1) point.

Eat Fruits and Veggies
Fruits and vegetables are a bit lacking in my diet at present. So I’m going to work on adding more of that into my diet! It’s been getting better but there is improvement to make for sure. Mealime is very helpful here, as is the drilling into my head of the necessity of veggies.

Goal for this is twice a day.

Every meal including fruits and veggies is (1) point.

Daily Stretching
I’m trying to build this into my mornings when I get dressed. It’s the best time since I’ve taken to wearing jeans more frequently. I just keep forgetting to do so - I’m still thinking of a way to remind myself to do it before the end of the day. But it’s really helpful for my ankle, but also for my climbing prep to improve my flexibility.

Every stretching session is worth (1) point.

Scripture Writing Meditation
I love doing this to help work on my mental and spiritual health. I’ve been doing it semi regularly already, so it’s not a huge jump to go further and do it more frequently. It’s just part of what I do in the evening after work on the couch.

Every scripture writing meditation is (1) point.

Points Allocation
Good - 135 points (AVG 4 stretch sessions a week, 5 scripture writing days, 2 workouts, 2 meals a week cooked, 14 meals with fruits and veggies)
Better- 180 points (AVG 5 stretch sessions a week, 6 scripture writing days, 3 workouts, 2 meals a week cooked, 20 meals with fruits and veggies)
Best- 220 points (AVG 6 stretch sessions a week, 7 scripture writing days, 4 workouts, 3 meals a week cooked, 24 meals with fruits and veggies)

So that’s my challenge. Hope you have a great challenge and May the Force Be With You!

Ankle Update - I went all day yesterday with no brace! I went shopping even, and my ankle was super swollen and rough after, but it's alright. I took 2 Naproxen and slept it off and it looks like it's back at 90% normal today. I'll probably go no brace today unless I end up playing BeatSaber or something.  As long as I'm not shopping for 4 hours, it seems to be okay for me to wander my house without an ankle brace on.

I'm so close to exercise freedom I can practically taste it!

So I went climbing yesterday!!

It was super fun and I did really well until I tried to get further up a wall and moved my ankle in a weird way. I'm a little sad that I failed my belay certification, but honestly I haven't been in the gym for 2 months. It is what it is.

I didn't get very far up the walls but I didn't expect to. My ankle needs to be strengthened as I've been babying it for 2 months. I have to learn to trust it again.

The key here is that I can go back to climbing, and that I can work out finally!!! I've missed it greatly.

My fave strategy: hiking on very uneven ground. (Hills, inclines, crawling over downed trees.) It's slow and steady enough to let you control the movement and stresses on the ankle, while putting it under a variety of weight-bearing strains at a wide range of angles.

I'm prone to turning my ankle a lot; basically, after the first time, the tendons are stretched and you're always at risk. I'm not a hiking fan, but that's what it took to break out of a cycle of turning, healing, reinjuring, repeat. It wasn't just the strained bit that needed work, but all the little stabilising muscles that had been inactive while I was off the ankle.

Thank you! I have 5 acres of land on a mountain with a creek at the bottom, hiking down to the creek, reading in my hammock, and hiking back up should be perfect :) And since I work sedentarily,  I'll keep my ankle moving while I sit at my desk too.

Happy Monday!

Day 1 of the challenge went well.

I cooked dinner, which was a chicken, bacon, ranch skillet with broccoli. It turned out surprisingly delicious. It looked kinda gross, but it was actually delicious. And surprisingly filling too. All of the Mealime recipes are, honestly.

I'm two for two days on stretching - and I'm hoping to get some kind of exercise or movement in today. If Mr. Right doesn't feel like climbing, I'll play beatsaber this evening.  This also depends on my ankle, which was being a little bit rude this morning. Hopefully a nice long day of working at my desk will help xD

Have a great day, guys!!

Oooof I have so many thinks in my brain this morning. Some good some bad some neutral.

Two of them are going to stay in my brain for now. One is percolating and one is... not for public.

The third one is, yet again, food related.

I'm finding it surprisingly difficult to focus on eating better. I'm able to add in fruits and veggies, but my carb brain is like foooooooood. And honestly I'm not sure if it's related to the horrific amount of stress I sit under on the daily or just a lack of discipline or if I'm truly not eating enough and my body is trying to compensate. Heck, it could even be the reading and eating habit (which I'm working on by reintroducing reading outside of having something to eat).

Now - I'm not eating breakfast, which may be affecting things. I was so hungry at lunch yesterday that I scalded the roof of my mouth rather horrifically.  The dinners I'm making are filling and nice - always with nice veggies and such. I'm terrible at eating breakfast, but I'm considering starting to make smoothies for myself in the mornings. I just.. I don't know.

I really want to start eating better, but when I'm stressed and tired my brain immediately says "CARBS" and that's not cool either.

I just don't know what to do. It's frustrating. I want to eat better and take care of myself but it's... surprisingly hard.

So far today has been a MUCH better day than yesterday in so many ways.

First of all, I managed to get some breakfast in my system this morning (apple with peanut butter). And I remembered to stretch. I slept in to try to sleep off the headache I woke up with.

Fingers crossed, I'll be able to go climbing tonight with Mr. Right! I'll probably try to go one way or another, even if I'm by myself.  We'll see what time he comes home from his training today :)

Also - and my FAVORITE thing from today - my bestest friend has joined us here on the forum! Friends, meet @Schradical ❤️ ❤️

Yesterday was a really intensely solid day. I ate lots of fruits and veggies, I went climbing, got plenty of stretching in, and even did my scripture writing! I'm a little sore today, but it looks like today will be a bit more chill.

Today I'll be packing for my trip out of state for my cousin's wedding this weekend. We leave tomorrow after Mr. Right gets off work.

Hopefully I can get lots of fruits and veggies in even though I'll be gone!

I'll say - I did NOT want to cook dinner last night. After a long day and some serious DOMS, I was feeling it. But I sucked it up and did the thing - and I had a nice veggie heavy dinner. It was a taco bake and it was delicious!

We're off on our trip today, so I'm not going to be on very long. I'll be putting my face on and just generally prepping for my trip.

Y'all probably won't hear from me much this weekend but I'll see you next week! Take care of yourselves! :)

Wow last week was pretty solid! A good place to start.

I mostly stayed on target with my fruits and veggies over my travel weekend except yesterday... yesterday was long and a little rough food wise. But that's okay. It's a new week and I'm jump starting myself.

I'm not climbing until tomorrow, I danced and walked so much on Saturday that my ankle is still recovering.

Today I'm meal prepping for the week for Mr. Right and I, and cooking a meal tomorrow. I'm also cleaning up my kitchen because it's R A G G E D!

I suspect that today is going to be a busy day with my five million meetings and stuff that needs doing. But all I can do is charge ahead and do the best I can!

This week has been a slow start. Mostly because of the trip this weekend, but partially also because I'm up a creek with groceries and food. Mr Right got forced to work a 14 hour shift yesterday so he couldn't get the groceries.

Hopefully, I'll be climbing and getting groceries and doing bills today. Those are my main non-work goals. A good climb is direly needed, and like the climbing guy told me: if you go for an hour and a half or so twice a week, you'll see improvement and results.

My mom gave me a low impact workout video I may also try if I get the time, but if not today then tomorrow.

Hopefully Mr. Right gets off when he's supposed to so things can get done today - that would be ideal. Fingers crossed!

Not gonna sugar coat it - this week has been a nightmare. Work has been horrifically stressful, I haven't had any access to the car, I only just got groceries last night, haven't been able to exercise or even sit down for super long to do anything meditative.

I feel like I'm playing catch up - still. Every time I turn around I'm hearing about something else that hasn't gotten done. My boss keeps asking about this and that and I'm like.... wait what are you talking about I don't remember this at all. And I'm just... completely lost.

I'm way ahead for hours this week (anything above my normal is on my time and unpaid), I haven't gotten time to do any work-related studying, and I keep getting frustrated because the answers I'm getting from people are "you should go outside" and "you should work out" and I'm just like.... This stuff has a time limit and I absolutely don't have a choice but to get it done ASAP.

Ultimately, I'm just ready for this week to be done. I guess it's like the whole thing with "how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time." I can't get anything done if I don't do anything. So I'm going to go turn my attention to that and hope for the best...

I SURVIVED yesterday!

I had hit that point in lists of things to do where I wanted to do exactly NONE of them because it was just getting too overwhelming. But I fought my way to doing things and managed to get a meal cooked and work out!

I used this video my mom sent me and I actually love it.  I didn't expect to but it's freakin awesome. I worked hard but didn't wreck my ankle.

Fingers crossed, I'll be climbing tonight. If Mr. Right gets off early like he's supposed to I'll be able to.

Anyone who does praying things I would appreciate prayer.... I am potentially facing some rather major changes again and while it's good change, I don't handle change well.

Yesterday was... not my best day for challenge stuff. My fruit and veggie intake was very low and I was eating a little like an idiot. It was a rest day but that doesn't mean I should be dumb about it.

I'm super tired, tomorrow I'll dive into my day today a bit more tomorrow morning

Week 5:

Total: 66

Not bad!!

I had a hard week early and it was a struggle to force myself to take care of myself. I was really feeling the cabin fever but hopefully soon we will have another car so I can at least go climbing as I want to.

Today I'm doing meal prepping for Mr right and I!! For breakfasts I'm doing smoothies and he is getting mini quiches with spinach, tomato, bacon, and cheese. For lunches I'm doing a turkey egg roll in a bowl and he is getting a broccoli Mac and cheese.

And my mom wants to do fun workout videos with me every few days via Facebook messenger screen share!

Hopefully I can get on the ball this week.

I'm gonna go finish my lunch and my chores. Have a great Sunday everyone!!

I was cooking for like 4 hours yesterday >_>

But I got everything done and my kitchen is even clean. And I'm up early again for the first time in a week. I made a smoothie this morning and I'm working through my coffee.

I'm hoping to go climbing today since Mr. Right should be getting off somewhat early, but it also depends because my friend just had a baby and I might be watching her older kids today. We'll see how the day goes.

Went climbing yesterday! It was an enjoyable session and I made a friend since the Autobelay systems are still being serviced and you can't climb alone without autobelay. We climbed a bit and I am soooo sore from both climbing and belaying. Both are solid workouts!

This morning was a bit tricky though.. I was worn out and slept later than I wanted. And then my leftover smoothie from yesterday went sour.  It was so nasty >.< I suspect it was probably related to the greek yogurt - even though it's been in the fridge since I made it.

Other than cooking dinner today, most of my to-dos revolve around enjoying my new game: horizon zero dawn :) Once I beat that I'll treat myself to Crash Team Racing remastered I think. Or backtrack and start playing crash remastered again. But also I'd like to go read in my hammock. Choices choices!
