My last challenge or two kind of fizzled near the end when I stopped caring about doing things. So we'll see if this one goes any better. I'm setting a morning routine and things are scheduled with a time that they should take to get done. Get up: 7am Brush Teeth: 5 min Morning Prayers: 15 min Walk: 10 min Exercise: 30 min (M W F - Pull-up Workout, T Th - Rucking) Brush Hair/Get Dressed: 5 min Pack Lunch: 10 min Which in theory gets me ready to leave for work by 8:15 am. Trying it out this morning, several things took me a minute or two longer than scheduled, but I mostly made up the time when the workout didn't take the full 30 minutes, so it's all good. This will be the plan for Monday-Friday. Weekends will be modified as needed to fit whatever I'm doing that day. Mostly I expect that will mean walk/exercise won't be part of the morning routine. I think Saturday get up time will be 8 hours after whenever I go to bed as long as I don't have anywhere particular to be (I want to allow for staying up late one night a week if I want). Sunday it will be 6:30 am which will hopefully mean I'm not rushed getting to church. Now, in order to get up by 7 am (or whenever I need to be up), I need to go to bed at a reasonable time. Ranger Hal Posted April 5, 2021 Author Report Share Posted April 5, 2021 In other news, I'm on Day 29 of the NF App 30 Days of Walking adventure. I started it because I had mostly stopped doing regular exercise during the week and needed something easy to get moving. I'm very happy about how consistent I have been, especially on a couple of those rainy weekend days when I really didn't feel like getting outside. I will probably start over again as soon as I finish this round. This morning I started the Chin-Up Challenge (again), only I'm doing pull-ups. I did it a couple of times last year and got to just over half a pull-up before deciding to take a break. When I did the placement test last week, it looks like I've backtracked a bit (not surprising after all the time off). Today's workout was harder than expected, although that may be because I'm still sore from practicing ice axe arrest on Saturday. Nights when I don't get home until after 9:30 pm and haven't had dinner are a struggle and will likely continue to be. Taking dinner with me would require planning since it's nice to have a cooked meal for dinner, or at least something I can reheat. Maybe I could look into taking my backpacking stove? This morning I got up a few minutes late, but otherwise did pretty well staying on track. The end of the routine got a little mixed up because I was also pulling laundry out of the dryer and folding it so I would have clothes to wear. But that's okay, laundry needed to happen (I was out of clean socks). I also called the garbage service people and ordered a yard waste bin. Now (well, in a couple of weeks when the bin comes) I can maybe do something about the blackberries that are taking over the back of the house. The lights went off when I woke up a few hours later. Morning schedule was weird because I had to leave home early to go to a job site. I woke up a little early, but not enough to go walking (I knew I'd be doing a bunch of walking at the job site) or do the pull-up workout. Ranger Hal Posted April 9, 2021 Author Report Share Posted April 9, 2021 I think I stayed up past 11 last night. I was reading and fell asleep with the lights on again (bad habit). Anyway, lights went off after 3 am when I woke up and remembered I still needed to submit my timesheet for the week. Got that done and went back to sleep. This morning was a little slow. I hit the snooze button a couple of times before deciding that I was actually going to get up and do things. I also kept getting distracted, so the things took longer. I considered skipping the workout and doing it later because I was behind, but got it done anyway. It's a good thing the third workout for the week is always a smaller one. Ranger Hal Posted April 15, 2021 Author Report Share Posted April 15, 2021 This week was mostly a bust as far as workouts go. I have been getting the short walks done, but it feels like there's too much other stuff going on and I'm skipping the other workouts. Monday I went climbing most of the day as part of my mountaineering class. It was lots of fun! Oh, and I slept in the back of my truck under the stars the night before. It was beautiful and possibly the only night I've spent away from home in the last year (except that one SAR mission, but since I was basically hiking all night and not sleeping at all, it doesn't really count). Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment (annual checkup) and got a tetanus shot since it had been 10 years since my last one. Of course, a couple of hours later, I got an email that I could set up an appointment for the Covid vaccine, except that I can't get it within two weeks of any other vaccination. So that's fun. Today I decided not to go to SAR rigging practice because I don't think there's enough time between work and the prep session I have for the snow overnight for my mountaineering class. I was going to try to do everything (and have to leave rigging early anyway), but I think it's better to have a little time between things so I can eat dinner. Snow overnight is this weekend (and I have to pack sometime between now and tomorrow night) and then we're getting into the prep for my church's Palm Sunday and Easter celebrations (a lot of years we're on a different schedule from most of the western world). I haven't really gotten any Lent things done and Lent is nearly over. Sigh.
