I've not been happy with my weight or my activity level lately. This is not about body image, I can see many positive things about my appearance. This is about function. I have enough extra weight around my waist that it pushes on my diaphragm when I bend over and makes it hard to breathe. I don't like that. I have enough extra weight that makes it harder and more tiring to move. I don't like that. I'm not moving as much as i used to, and it negatively affects mood and energy levels, I don't like that.

What I do have is this amazing community, and the knowledge that the only way to lose is to give up. I like that. This article about not giving up is very helpful.

Therefore, I'm not giving up. I'd rather do 10% of something than 100% of nothing.

Goals:

Yoga, Walking, KettleBells, Cooking.

Do them. Preferably regularly.

For years I've only bought loafers as dress shoes for this very reason, even when I could bend over and still breathe.

Today is a good day. Church was good, and I feel like I'm coming out of a mild depressive slump. One of the things that helped me this last go around was to remind myself when I was feeling long "This will get better." There was more to it than that of course, and I'm still not completely out of the woods, but things are improving. I did cook lunch. The side was a simple salad with mixed greens, pistachios, dried cranberries, and some lemon vinaigrette. The main dish was couscous with chicken. The couscous was pretty straight forward, 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons butter, and some salt, brought to a boil. Then I added 2 cups couscous and some dried cranberries, stirred, and put the lid on it. The chicken was chopped chicken thighs I cooked in some avocado oil with salt and pepper. When it was done I removed the chicken but left the drippings in the pan, then cooked two thin-sliced shallots for about four minutes. I added the chicken back in, along with 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar, a good bit of apricot jam, and some dried rosemary I had crushed in my mortar and pestle. I stirred and let that cook for a bit, then served it over the couscous. It was very good.

90% of Life is Just Showing up

I find that to be very true. Yet, showing up ever and ever again is all but an easy game. We're like water cutting through a rock: we win, eventually, if only we don't stop going at it, drop by drop.

Here for a hug if you need one. You've got this.

Legally bound to hug people in need.

Living life as a Druid is about walking with the beasts. It's about being scared, looking your fears in the eyes and going on anyway. Dread doesn't go away, you just learn to know it. It's still a beast, it still has fangs, but you walk among it.
