Eat and Move

I was going to have slightly loftier goals for this challenge than my previous one but then my old illness came barrelling back out of nowhere. Although if I'm honest the signs have been there for a couple of months that it was getting worse.

I'm finding it extremely hard to function right now. I just want to curl up into a ball and sleep.

During the course of this challenge I'll be having a bunch of medical tests and exams. One of these includes and awkward encounter with a camera. I'm seriously not looking forward to that but I want answers.

This challenge has two very simple goals:

Eat and Move.

I need to eat better. It's very simple but it's very hard when anything solid is extremely unappealing. I just want to try and eat better so I'll say what I've eaten every day.

Move

Get out and move once a day. It doesn't matter if it's running, cycling or walking. The goal is just to keep active and moving.

The procedure is not the problem. They knock you out for that. It's the prep that's killer.

Sometimes simple goals are best. Simple, however, doesn't always means easy.

Okay so an update.

This week hasn't been great. I pretty much just went from feeling bad to worse. Things hit a high on Saturday where I spent the entire day with a massive bout of nausea. Today though I'm feeling a lot less drained and exhausted but I'm still feeling unwell. Odd but I'll take it. It's the end of next week where I'll have had all of my tests done. Although I'm unsure when I'll see all the results.

Still managed to DM a game of dnd on Saturday. I'm really enjoying doing these short little games like this one.

As for goals:
I've run once, cycled once and took a walk on all other days. It's good to get out. Especially with working from home.

Food:
Not so great. I've eaten a lot of sugar because if I eat sugary sweets I don't feel ill during and afterwards. This is obviously not a great way to eat and it's probably not helping whatsoever with how I'm feeling.

I'm not sure the exact nature of your illness, but it sounds like your digestive system is, one way or another, not holding on to food very long? In that case, sugar might not be so terrible. You have to absorb what energy you can as quick as possible. Long-term not great, but short-term, you take what you can hold onto. If you wanted to healthy it up a bit you could try fruit juice. (For my first four months of pregnancy, I couldn't eat anything but fruit or risk throwing up.)

Nobody is sure of the exact nature of my illness but yeah it's like my body is rejecting food. Eating is really weird because I'll get hungry but the moment I swallow something solid I immediately lose my appetite and  begin to feel really sick. But yeah that's why I'm eating things high in sugar and sticking to simple carbs where I can. It's a way of getting energy into my body without stressing my digestive system too much. I think I'd be happier with myself if it were fruit that I was eating. I know there are some things I can eat without it making me feel sick and high water fruits are on that list.

Oh yeah. :) That's the real problem when you look into this stuff is that there is actually so little that we as a species know about some things regarding how our bodies work. I've had so many tests and every one of them have so far come back telling me that I'm perfectly healthy which is a good thing but it doesn't help with anything lol.

Update:

Oh I've been feeling weirdly awful the last couple of days. Yesterday I ended up really not eating very much at all, and most of that was once again sugar. Today though I had all the hunger and eventually ended up eating quite a lot. I'm effectively intermittent fasting at this point without meaning to do so.

Yesterday I went for a bike ride, today I didn't even feel up to that and went on two walks instead. Cycling though is a pretty good substitute for running on the days I'm feeling otherwise okay since it mostly does away with the pounding of running which is obviously a problem at times in my current predicament.

It's so beautiful outside right now I really wish I could do a 20 mile run lol.

Update:

I am feeling quite a lot better today. The problem really is that I've got no idea if I'm going to be feeling like this tomorrow or not. But for today I feel pretty good, comparatively speaking. Yesterday I was in pain but today it's not there.

I made up for all of the eating I've been missing and then some because I actually showed something resembling an appetite and ended up eating quite a lot. It really shouldn't feel like an achievement to consume a bagel for breakfast but I did and I was feeling pretty happy with myself.  Dinner ended up being tacos because I wanted tacos and it's not common for me to actually want anything in particular so I indulged and ate too many tacos :D not sorry.

Starting to actually roll out my new low commitment dnd game. I'm getting really excited as the list of potential players increases. :) I'm doing two games this weekend to kick things off because the games I would have been playing were cancelled. So much excitement.

I ran today. It didn't go great but I really didn't expect it to go great. So it's more a statement of the facts without judgement on myself, I'm just happy it happened. It was really slow and included a lot of walking. Here's a fun fact about running, from a fitness point of view walking breaks during running don't hurt at all. Intervals don't need to be consistent length in order to be useful for training and it's a total accumulation of your work that matters most. On a psychological point it's difficult to think about running consistently for x amount of time if you've never come close to it in your training.

It did however go better than I'd feared. I ended up going nearly 5 miles within the hour I had where I'd been completely prepared to stop after my warmup. I did need to stop often but that's really got less to do with my fitness than how I'm physically feeling atm.

I'll probably take my bike out tomorrow.

My professional troubleshooter brain vehemently disagrees and says this is a bad thing, because it means that all these many tests are failing to produce all the relevant information needed to isolate the cause of the problem. You are, at this point in time, not  perfectly healthy. If these tests say you are, they are either done incorrectly, or they are testing for the wrong things.

I'm short-tempered about this because I spent a few years having similar experiences with my eczema. None of the doctors I saw could explain why my skin exploded into weeping dermatitis rash at seemingly random intervals, and settled for, "There's no medical reason for this that we can find, so it must be  stress related. You need to be less stressed."

I'm sure anyone here who knows me, can imagine how well that went over... :D

I hope your experience with these tests is much better and that you can get some answers!

Personally dealing with a similar medically unresolved issue but found the main triggers by myself eventually. The doctors literally just wanted to prescribe generic medicine and waved me off so far.

From one professional troubleshooter to another ;) It's more accurate to say that the tests that I've had all show that I'm in otherwise pretty good health. The tests serve to rule out the more obvious causes and so it means that they have ruled out quite a number of the more serious conditions already. So it's good that it's probably not cancer, or celiacs disease or a number of other things that it could be. It remains to be seen though if these last few bring up anything else. I'm in physical pain so I'm hopeful that there is at least something there to see.

Yeah I had this at one point too. My reaction was also pretty blunt.  It took me a little while to get through to my doctor but at least once I did he moved pretty quickly but covid delayed everything.

Personally dealing with a similar medically unresolved issue but found the main triggers by myself eventually. The doctors literally just wanted to prescribe generic medicine and waved me off so far.

Yeah. It started abruptly almost 2 years ago and what I do or do not eat doesn't seem to make the blindest bit of difference. At least aside from those times when I'm feeling especially ill where I really cannot stomach solid food. But my initial experience was much the same.
