Weight Loss PVP: 10/12 lbs in 10/12 Weeks! [June 14 - Sept 4, 2021] **SUMMERTIME MADNESS EDITION**

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the summertime madness edition of...

The 10/12lbs in 10/12 weeks weight-loss Player-versus-Player challenge!

In discussion during previous PVPs, we came to the conclusion that folks should have the guilt-free option of taking it easy during Week Zeros to refeed, rest and recharge if they so wish, hence the 12/10lbs in 12/10 weeks in the title.  I want folks to set goals that they think is realistic (that could even be 6lbs/12weeks or whatever works for you) and stick around for the accountability and camaraderie rather than opting out, beating themselves up, or quitting partway through!

So now's the time to sign-up for a Player-versus-Player accountability challenge sure to motivate you to tackle those weight loss goals!  Of course we only advocate losing healthy weight and using healthy methods to get there, this playful side quest is less about beating your peers to the finish line than it is about challenging yourself, making some new accountibilibuddies, and having a place to share your battle plan or struggles along the way.

The Rules

  1. Sign-up using the SPREADSHEET.  Add your name & starting weight, waist measurements optional.  10 or 12 lbs in 10 or 12 weeks (roughly 1lb or 0.5kg per week)  is the goal but feel free to increase or decrease the difficulty as you see fit.  Whatever your goals are, you are most welcome to participate (even if you'd like to join in late)!
  2. Introduce yourself to your fellow competitors!  Feel free to mention your goals, any battle plans for getting there, and what your primary motivation or inspirations are.  Feel free to mention your Challenge goals or Battle Log too!  This is an excellent place to get to know others from the forums.
  3. Update the SPREADSHEET with your weekly weigh-ins.  We're using Monday as the 'official' day, but if Sunday, Tuesday, or any other day work better, go nuts!  Just keep it at roughly a week for tracking purposes.  This challenge is aligned with the current and next 5 Week Challenges, with optional weeks off for Zero Week at the start and in between.  You're also welcome to hop in at any time!
  4. Have fun, encourage everyone, and keep each other accountable!

Did I mention the SPREADSHEET?

Tips for Success!

  1. Make with the exercise (maybe the cardio zoomies, maybe the heavy uppy-downies or the flippy-dippies?)
  2. Do-do the (calorie) deficit.
  3. Gobble up the veggies.
  4. Gulp down the waters.
  5. Visit and update us (and the SPREADSHEET) regularly to build that accountability network.
  6. Share your summertime workout playlist for MAXIMUM HYPE!! B)

I'm already signed up and excited for weigh-in tomorrow!

The past challenge was all about building consistency for me and I'm sitting in a pretty good place now.  So my plan going into the summer months is a 6-day Push/Pull/Legs split, daily walks with a 10k steps average goal, eating Paleo-ish whole foods (recently changed my oats-based protein cookies and waffles to sweet potato), with a daily goal of yoga for mobility, longevity, and peacefulness at bedtime.  Also featuring Muay Thai or hiking on the weekends for bonus cardio!

The wife and I are also continuing to experiment with 'nutrifying' some favorite, somewhat-less-than-optimally-healthy foods.  Lately we've been perfecting 'anabolic' protein ice cream, and the next plan is looking like sweet potato crust BBQ chicken pizza.  I'm also excited to level up my Culinary Alchemy trait through experimenting with mocktails and other low-cal tasty beverages.

Thanks for putting another PVP together.  I'm excited to go for another 10/12 weeks!   This year is a respawn year for me and I've got some ground to make up.  My 2021 plan and roadmap is posted in my Battle Log (link to the left!).  It includes a goal to get down to 225 by the end of the year.  I started the year at 266.  I'm almost halfway there!

I'm keeping my goal for this PVP at 10 pounds but there is some summer travel planned that will definitely make that challenging.   My usual tactics are meal planning and batch cooking, eating the freggies, sticking to a calorie deficit using Noom's food logging system and their food categories.  I've been  walking as my primary fitness activity but it's time to start adding some strength training.  I'm baby stepping my way in and starting with bundling it in after my walks.

I keep saying I should take some measurements but yet never do.  Maybe this time...

I'm in. Over the last year and a half I've gained 50lbs that I had previously lost and had kept off for 3ish years. It's been a ridiculously crazy time at work, but now I'm on greatly reduced hours at work (voluntarily, so I don't have a mental breakdown) and as of today I'm back home from visits to family until probably late fall so I will have time to focus and get back on track. I'll add myself to the spreadsheet with my starting weight after my weigh-in tomorrow morning

Here for the Summer party!!!!

I honestly haven't stuck to to tracking and keeping weight off for this long! 6 months sold whoot!

Noticing the level of difficulty I'm taking a lower level of 6lbs this whole challenge due to my body needing longer to adjust. Along with getting solid habits and a better relationship with food!

I'm also focusing on slaying the NF Beginner Workout that will also coexist with me trying to get my first pushup! (I may have done it before but idk on if it really happened).

I'm working on diet on the first challenge of "there's food at home and a packed lunch". Trick is getting my "commute home/ pre workout snack".

Not tracking unless I start gaining weight!

I'm in!! and aiming for 3kg in 5 weeks.  In 5 weeks time I'm heading off for a 5 week hiking adventure in the Northern Territory (Australia).  I'm at the 'panic' stage so hopefully all the extra training (and anxiety) will help me pull off the 3kg goal.

This would have me at my goal weight after a year and a half concerted effort.  I will still have weight to lose but I'd be happy to stabilise at 65kg for a while.  Extended hiking like this occassionally results in some weight loss but more often not.  It is it's own kind of restricted eating (and lots of exercise) but generally being smart about refueling to keep the energy up balances this out.

Let's just say if you don't lose weight you might just be pure muscle.....  Maybe not pure, but probably quite a bit of muscle if you are caring your supplies in a bag.

You are living my dream! Hope the 5 weeks of preparedness are in your favor!

I would love to join this group since losing some weight would definitely benefit my body in hurting less. My strategy is to move more which is easy, since I don't really move much at all right now.

May your goal fit in! Glad to have you join us!

Nice part of the group I find it that when you go on the scale someone in this thread has done it recently!

The scale... the scale. I'm at 280 once more. And back to my starting waist....

I did have a lot of fast food this last week. This week its pracitcing not eating more of that. Plus veggies with my meals (I have a Salsa Salad that needs to be eaten up, along with peppers).

I'm in.

Weigh-in on Saturday was 99.0 kg, so I'm only 4 kgs away from my primary end-of-July goal. Since this challenge runs a couple of weeks longer, I'm going for the secondary goal of 92 kgs.

That would bring me back to my pre-Covid weight.

This is actually my plan too.  Rather than shooting for my End Game goal of 190lbs, I'm going to focus on one increment at a time.  So I weighed in at 210.8 today and I want to see 205 consistently by the end of the challenge, 6lbs is my weight-loss goal for now.  💪

Things are not going well this week at all.  I am having trouble getting my weight to recover after a small increase from last weekend and then ordered pizza last night and I'm up to my weight from 5 weeks ago.  It's just carb bloat and water weight but eek!  Time for the straight and narrow... but there's a BBQ festival Saturday.

Hi folks!

I know I'm a couple days late in getting started, I hope that's okay! I'm respawning, so I was just going to dip my toes in with the 6/20-7/24 challenge, but since I'm here I figured I may as well jump in with both feet and join this challenge as well.

So after I gave myself permission tracking isn't part of my goals this challenge I started tracking... lol.

Getting an idea where my calories are coming from but not enough protein. Also I need vegetables.... Ate up at least half a bag of salad mix with popcorn salt Helped me mentally eat better choices and prep some veggies for tomorrow.

Also finally realized my current living situation can allow me to buy myself a grill (been wanting one for five years). Going to save up a bit, but will be grilling before July 4th!

Thanks.  Despite feeling a little defeated I still debated having the leftover pizza for dinner last night.  I didn't.  But it's still there.

Summer party! I’m in. Asked the better half not to pick up sea-salt chocolate bars (my greatest kryptonite) during summertime sun’s-out-guns-out season. Moved the chocolate chips (another kryptonite) out of the baking drawer and into the basement freezer. On a FREAKING ROLL with tracking food. Okay, I almost always go over recommended calories but I’m using Noom and have serious side eye for their goals. Things are way more dialed in when I track, that is for sure.

NSV, using Me360, my uncanny-valley body avatar looks somewhat more chiseled this week  than at the start of June.

I tried to post the (after and before) scans in the spoiler section because it’s creepy AF with no facial feature, but can’t get it to work, haha. But I’m stoked anyway! Trust me, I look way better (albeit creepy because of the no-face thing) So some good momentum to enter the challenge with!

Starting weight: 99.0 kg

Weight 20/06: 99.3 kg (+0.3 kg)*

It's actually +0.1 kg but the missus got us a new fancy scale, and that measures me 0.2 kg heavier. The old scale had me at 99.1 which should be my comparison point, but meh - I'm going forward with the new scale regardless so might as well pick the higher weight now.

I'm blaming this on the heavy eating day last Saturday (just after my weigh-in) and the lack of activity due to Euro 2020. 🙃

I had a 'whoosh' early in the week and had several low/mid 67kg weigh ins days but by the weekend back up towards 68.  Logging it as a .2 kg loss.  It did give me a kick to see some mid/low 67's but maybe it made me complacent.

Starting (6/14): 280 lbs

This week (6/21): 279 lbs

Somehow I lost a pound this week. I didn't really say no to treats but did start adding more buffers by eating veggies before reaching heavy calorie food.

I tracked and went 500+ calories almost every day.... my strength training must be helping create a larger buffer.

Gameplan this week: no candy trail mix for myself (unless I plan it out on mfp). And skipping frozen dinners for a week to go through food at home. Am curious how this experiment goes!
