I have a few trips planned during this challenge.  Overall I'll end up visiting 5 states, 7 if you count the 2 additional that I'll be driving through.  Half of the challenge will be busy with all the travel and with travel comes difficulties sticking to goals.  So why not just plan the challenge around the travel?  I'll be traveling with my kids for our annual family vacation, this year to the east coast, over the week of the 4th of July.  We'll visit North and South Carolina and Georgia.  The weekend after we return I'm spending a long weekend in Kansas City with my college besties.  Then the final weekend of the challenge I'll be driving up to my brother's in North Dakota to drop Peach there for her summer visit.  

 

Welcome to my Wanderlust challenge.  During the challenge I'll document my travels and post a picture of the day.  When I'm not traveling I'll just post a picture of something that relates to my goals or other activities that keep me busy.  It might be food or workout related or maybe just something that makes me happy.  

 

And for the actual goals:

There's nothing much new here.  I'll be trying to do much of the same, meal planning, eating freggies, using Noom's food color categories, and trying to get 3 fitness activities in a week, travel dependent.  But this challenge marks the end of one quarter and the beginning of another.  According to my 2021 Roadmap (posted in my Battle Log) it's time to introduce some strength training to the mix and some new projects around my castle.  

 

Weight

In my roadmap I expected to finish this quarter at 240.  I'm starting this challenge at 248.8 so 240 isn't about to happen that quickly.   Since this is a travel challenge, I'm just planning to make whatever progress I can make before traveling and then just maintaining from there.  

 

Nutrition

In addition to the usual tactics I'd like to get back to IF.  14 hour fasts were my sweet spot previously, never really making 16 hours work comfortably.  I haven't been able to get back to the habit unless I sleep in.  Although I would love to just sleep in every day, it's hardly practical.  This year is all about baby steps so I'm just going to use this challenge to focus on slowly moving breakfast later, ideally right into lunchtime, even if it's only 5 minutes later than the day before.  That should get me in a place for next challenge.

 

Fitness

It's time to start adding some strength training to my routine.  Since I'm traveling so much this challenge my fitness goals will already be under strain and since this is the year of babysteps, I'll just start by bundling some bodyweight reps to the end of my existing fitness activities.   It doesn't matter how much, maybe just a plank or some squats after a walk.  

 

Personal

The goal here is the same but I am definitely in a period of transition.  My goal is to take advantage of opportunities for quality time with family and the people that are important to me.  Qbert is working at camp for the duration of this challenge.  He returns home just after the challenge ends but will be off to college in a couple weeks.  I'll spend the time I can with him but focus on Peach.  DDG and I are also trying to create as many opportunities for his boys to come hang out here too to prepare for when DDG moves in.  

 

Castle

I still have not completed my quarter 2 projects around the home.  I do have the projects for quarter 3 lined up but there won't be any time this challenge to start them.  I'll just focus on finishing the ones going.  The project that needs to get done is finish organizing the garage.  Some work got done but the tools and workbench is still a mess.  The declutter project was going through all the stuff from when kids were little that was in storage.  Clothes and blankets is done, and Peach's school work and papers are done.  I only need to finish going through Qbert's.  The project that I really want to get done is painting the game room.  The closet got done in the first quarter and I'm excited to get the rest of the room painted.

East coast is a combination.  We fly into NC and then drive during the week down the coast and fly home from GA.  The others are all driving.  Kansas City is only 2.5 hours away though.

The dakotas are extremely boring.  But driving with Peach is always a joy and then driving back without her is always quiet and peaceful.

I swear, it's like the vehicle is on a treadmill. You could be going 180 mph and feel like you're standing still cause there's nothing going past the windows.

I’m so ready for this challenge I started 2 days ago. 
 

Friday - I usually have pizza for supper Fridays because it’s Friday. But Qbert had another session working on his Eagle project Saturday and we planned to order pizza after that due to exhaustion.  Breakfast at work was a banana and some high protein/lower sugar chocolate milk. Lunch was a ham and cheese on Noom approved whole wheat bread, some baked chips, and grapes and berries.   I kept to the snack box for snacks, mostly chocolate and a little bit of fruit. Dinner was leftover brats and peppers in cheesy rice. I finished off the creamed corn leftovers too.  50 calorie deficit (but my Noom deficit setting is still set halfway between tortoise and hare. I’ll increase by 1 notch Monday) and had 5 freggies. Calories from Noom red foods was a little high (57%) but green was good at 33%. Ratio of green/yellow/red was 33/10/57. 
 

No fitnessing happened but Qbert got gone from camp a little early. We spent the evening planning for another work day on it.

Saturday was an exhausting day!  Since Qbert was gone early we got some work done ahead of time. I made us huevos con migas for breakfast before we started. I included bacon and air fried tater tots. It was tasty.   We packed up and headed to the meeting place for his eagle project around noon.  I needed to run an errand for supplies once we got started and I realized I was famished. I grabbed a McDonald’s double cheeseburger out of necessity.  Qbert ordered pizza for the volunteers and I intended to avoid it since we were doing pizza for dinner but it was also pizza  so I couldn’t resist. I had three pieces.  After the work session I was sunburnt and exhausted. I grabbed us some ice cream. I had a hot fudge milkshake. It was just what I needed. We decided not to order pizza after all but after some recuperating and relaxing I ended up throwing a Totino’s pizza in the oven for a late night dinner.   
 

none of the work had registered on Fitbit as a workout but I counted it as a fu criminal fitness day. My perceived activity seemed high enough. I logged some time on Noom and it gave me a boost on my calorie target. I ended up going over by only 50 despite eating over 2000 calories. Fitbit did confirm as my calorie expenditure was about 800 higher than usual. I’m calling it a win. However, I ate literally zero green foods. Luckily most of it was in the yellow category so even the red calories were under my limit. Ratio was 0/77/23%.

This is one of the mazes he is creating for his project. Sadly only 2 scouts showed up this time so he didn’t get as much done as he had hoped. But he’s in the final stretch now.

I am pretty excited for our east coast vacation.  The kids and I want to try to visit every state.  I've been to more than then but after this trip we'll have visited 22 together.

Sunday - I slept in a little bit and woke around 8:30.  It was a calm morning, Peach didn't work until noon and Qbert was sleeping in too.  I took advantage of the peace and quiet and sat outside for a bit with the dog and read.  I inteded to fast until lunch since I ate so late the night before, but I wanted to send Qbert off with a hot breakfast.  Since I was cooking bacon and eggs already and I decided I might as well eat.  I made us each a egg, bacon, and cheese english muffin with some grapes.  It was nice to sit and chat with Qbert while we ate.  He had to pack up and head out right after.   I logged my food for the rest of the day and then did not stick to it at all.  Lunch was planned to be Raisin Bran crunch with a banana.  I got the munchies and opened a bag of baked chips and ate a bit too many of them.  I logged them but didn't have room, both in my belly and in my food log, for both those and the cereal so I skipped a proper lunch.  Later in the day I started to feel snacky again though not actually hungry.  I grabbed a banana to stave off the other snacks.   Dinner was supposed to be BBQ chicken sandwiches.   I had them all ready for the grill and some honey glazed baby carrots ready to go in the over.  Beforehand DDG and I ran over to his brother's to drop off the coolers we borrowed for all the parties.  They had leftover food from their own party and wanted to get rid of them.  They offered us dinner so we had walking tacos there.  I was still under calorie target for the day so once we got back home I grabbed us some Snickers ice cream bars.   I finished the day with 150 calories left.  I only had 2 freggies, there was some lettuce on my taco but not enough to count as a serving.  Green foods were a little low and red a little high.  17/17/66%. 

 

No fitnessing happened either.  I did work on one of Qbert's mazes but primarily spent the entire day on the couch watching copious amounts of trash TV and waiting for the new challenge forums to go live.  It was a lovely relaxing day.

Monday - I logged all my planned meals and snackbox and was determined to stick to it.  Breakfast and lunch were easy.  I did a little swapping from the snackbox but was still close to Target.  Noom made a change to how the logging and calorie goals display and it's difficult to know exactly where I'm aiming.  It gives you a base calorie limit and then adjusts as your activity level changes throughout the day.  But now it gives me different numbers in different places.  The meals planned were the day fit together nicely.  After work Peach needed to run a few errands, we needed to run to Target and then her dads.  But that turned into an errand marathon and it was miserable.  We hit Walmart and Target, then Walgreen's and Home depot, then jimmy Johns, twice, and then back home for her key to her dad's place and finally her dad's where she informed me that she actually already have the thing she went there to retrieve.  <_<  I hadn't had most of the snacks in the snackbox thinking we wouldn't be out long and dinner could be soon if I wanted.  I had to fight off the urge to grab food the entire time.  It was hot and miserable out and I was feeling the beginning of a migraine.  We did end up getting bread from jimmy johns, which she decided she didn't need for dinner so we just ripped into.  I felt much better after having some bread. 

 

I had dinner pretty much right away after getting home.  BBQ chicken burger with cheddar, honey glazed roasted carrots, and air fried brussel sprouts.  It was mostly disappointing but at least I stuck to the meal plan.  The carrots were too sweet.  The chicken didn't have enough BBQ sauce nor was it 'sticky' enough.  It was all perfectly mediocre.  No fitnessing happened but I did find time to read outside a little, cut and paint replacement pieces for Qbert's mazes and assembled one maze, and catch up on some TV.

Tuesday - The day started off according to plan.  There was a food day at work and I grabbed a half piece of a scotcharoo to have after lunch but by lunch I grabbed another, and another.  I skipped all other snacks for the rest of the day and finally got around to logging all my meals for the day.  It was close but I had room for those scotcharoos.  But then Peach wanted to order pizza for dinner and watch a movie and it was too difficult to resist.  I still went way over between the pizza and the parmesan bread bites we ordered.  But that helped motivate me to get a walk in to at least mitigate my calorie surplus a little.   I went out for a walk with the dog after it had cooled off a little.  It was still hot and our walk was slow.  Even the dog was tired before halfway and we only walked a mile.  After the walk I pulled out my KB and tried the NF beginner KB workout.  I did 1 circuit minus the lunges.  It was much harder than I expected and my KB was much heavier than I remembered.  But it's been a very long time since I've picked up something heavy so I could put it down again.  I logged the workouts in Noom and was still over by 700 calories.  3 freggies and a food quality ratio of 14/16/70%.  According to my Fitbit calories burned I still had a deficit but just barely.

My walk with the dog.  She was excited to get out there even though she was beat halfway through.  I enjoyed the walk more than I expected, except the uphill parts.  I did not enjoy those.
