Keladris
A five pronged fork is a rare thing. The net of trails branched off before her, each one of them as tempting as the last. In times past, she may have agonised over such a choice, resented it even. But here, in this moment, she was certain that these paths would cross and that whichever direction she chose would take her exactly where she needed to be. And so, with a song in her heart, she stepped forth. ------- So, the last challenge got a bit waylaid because I twisted my neck, and then got sick! But I am now back at it. The break actually did me some good I think. I've just started experimenting with Crossfit (I have taken an initial intro class, which came with a package of 2 other classes). I've also returned to ballet, and I actually think it might be time for me to move up a level! From "beginner basic" to "beginner" (ballet has like 5 levels of beginner haha!). But I'm also finding myself really motivated to create and to learn, including: languages, acting, music, writing, and adding fiction to my day job (I am a radio and podcast documentary producer, but am being drawn to audio drama too!). So, although I'm late to the challenge, here's some goals for the coming weeks. They're not quite as structured as my previous challenges, because I'm exploring new things! 1. Try out ballet beginner classes This one is pretty simple - I'm already booked in for tomorrow! Will report back. 2. Complete Crossfit sessions and decide whether to continue/settle on a schedule I've booked in class number 2 for Friday, and will hopefully do the third one the following Friday. Then it'll be a case of deciding the best program for me. I think weekly to start with works well when combined with all the dancing. 3. Start submitting acting work for feedback I've signed up for 2 acting groups! One accepts monthly submissions, the other is a group class every Saturday. I have a trail month and I would also like to prepare a monologue for that within the next 4 weeks. I also belong a voice over mentoring group and I'm working on putting together some samples for feedback there too. 4. Start and begin each day with a reading session This one supports my acting classes and my language classes. Here's my present reading list: - Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. This is for the acting club submission (I'll be recording a monologue from Elizabeth!) - Audition, Michael Shurtleff. This is required reading for the Saturday classes - L'étranger, Albert Camus. It'd time I started reading some things in French! - Spear of the Emperor, Aaron Demski-Bowden. Aaron is a friend of mine and I started reading his book a while ago but lost my reading habit! Need to pick it up again. 4. Revise Spanish and French vocab I've been taking Spanish and French classes for a while now, and have some long lists of vocab that I've probably forgotten! Time to do some revision. 5. By the end of the month, develop a bass practice habit We bought a gorgeous Squire bass as a Christmas present to ourselves. I started out with great intentions, practicing every day, but didn't sustain it. I'm going to aim for practicing 3 times a week by the end of the month. Earning my bard classification this month! 1 Quote Keladris the Bard Current XP: 132 Current Challenge - Counting Wins --------------------------------------------------------- Previous challenges: Respawn Limbering up Going Forth Lifting the thing Exploring Staying the course Stabilising Preparing Link to comment
Alanna
This sounds like a really exciting challenge - you have a lot of very creativity-themed goals in for fitness, work, and hobbies! Your job sounds cool, too - how did you get into that field if you don't mind my asking? On 7/6/2021 at 2:27 AM, Keladris said: - Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen. Yes! I recorded Elizabeth, and got some really good and helpful feedback - yay! But boy oh boy, filming stuff on camera is a lot more complicated than I thought (I'm learning about lighting!). I think I need to spend some more time in the basic beginner class, but I'm looking forward to trying the next level again in a few months. End of challenge wrap up! I didn't post here much did I? Let's see how I did... 1. Try out ballet beginner classes ✅ This one is pretty simple - I'm already booked in for tomorrow! Will report back. 2. Complete Crossfit sessions and decide whether to continue/settle on a schedule ✅ I've booked in class number 2 for Friday, and will hopefully do the third one the following Friday. Then it'll be a case of deciding the best program for me. I think weekly to start with works well when combined with all the dancing. I completed the intros and signed up for another 10 classes! So far, I am going 1-2 times a week. Struggling to always stick to my schedule but working on making it consistent. 3. Start submitting acting work for feedback ✅ I've signed up for 2 acting groups! One accepts monthly submissions, the other is a group class every Saturday. I have a trail month and I would also like to prepare a monologue for that within the next 4 weeks. I also belong a voice over mentoring group and I'm working on putting together some samples for feedback there too. I submitted for the monthly submission, and I'm going to be doing a monologue from Twelfth Night in the other class this Saturday! Recorded my voice samples today, just need to upload them. 4. Start and begin each day with a reading session ➖ This one supports my acting classes and my language classes. I didn't read twice a day every day, but I did finish Audition, and have made progress on the others. Which is a lot more than I was reading before! 4. Revise Spanish and French vocab ❌ I've been taking Spanish and French classes for a while now, and have some long lists of vocab that I've probably forgotten! Time to do some revision. Still need to do this! I start new French classes next week, so I'll be really immersed in the language. 5. By the end of the month, develop a bass practice habit ❌ We bought a gorgeous Squire bass as a Christmas present to ourselves. I started out with great intentions, practicing every day, but didn't sustain it. I'm going to aim for practicing 3 times a week by the end of the month. This one just keeps eluding me. I will ponder more how I can fit it in.
