I'm back.  It's been a challenging year, but I'm working on looking forward instead of dwelling on the past.

Goals are few and short with the hope that they will be achievable:

  1. Weight 157.5 .... I am using WW+ right now as my tracking app.  The goal is to maintain a positive points balance while also tracking honestly.
  2. Do my first (since 1998) pull-up, following @Steve's pull-up progression plan.
  3. Finish my Run Across America Summer Splash with 150 KM

That's it.  Few bells and whistles.  I'm getting ready to go back to teaching normal, in-person semesters.  I still kinda freak out when an unmasked person gets within 6 feet of me .... so being in-person again this fall might take a little getting used to.

Weight 157.5 lbs

Tracked honestly and have a point buffer building up thanks to POUND class.  It's a lot of fun, rocking out to old tunes and hitting the floor.  Lots of squats and lunges!!  And sweat and laughter.  My hubby joined us tonight and was wiped out!!

Do my first (since 1998) pull-up

Rest day

Finish my Run Across America Summer Splash with 150 KM

I'm at 98 km and change right now.  If I can get out EARLY before the heat sets in, I'll hit my current goal (100 km) tomorrow and reset it to 150 km.  It's a fund raiser.  I had no idea how many kilometers I walk and run each week .... so I set the bar low originally.

I'm not usually one for group classes, but I went to POUND with my sister at her gym, and I LOVED it! Also was completely dead at the end.

POUND class is so fun, but yea ... I'm usually exhausted by the end and pretty stiff the next morning.  Which is when I have my personal training session.  Same trainer does each of those two; so she knows to be a little kinder with me!!!

I did yoga this morning to recover from Monday and Tuesday.  And I was invited to play Pickleball tomorrow night!!!  So, the summer of being brave and trying new things continues!!

More successes!!

Weight: 159.7 ... so I am still up a pound from my before-vacation low.

Pull up:  Resting still.  I made the mistake of telling my personal trainer that I had recommitted to a pull up.  She added some upper body exercises.  She's kind like that.

Today, I've been doing my best to be an adult.  I need to get serious about course prep .... which means that I need to spend less time on summer.  I love that @Steve posted about how to exercise when you don't have time ... because I don't want to make excuses this coming year .... just gains!!!

Weight: 159.6 (small improvement is probably random noise)

Pull-up: tomorrow I will work on this.  I promise!!

Summer Splash distance: walked 2+ miles .... but I will play PICKLEBALL tonight.  (First time .... I expect to be mightily embarrassed.  Worse than when I play golf.)

It is so fun!!!  It's a cross between tennis, and table tennis ... with some of the team-work of racquetball.    I can't wait until Tuesday night.  I HAD been planning to start back up with martial arts, but I've been trying to get  into this pickleball group for two years ... and they meet at the same time as TKD classes.    I'm afraid that fun is going to win out while the weather is good.

Pull-up Progress!!!

Bent-over KB rows: 8 x 20, 8 x 26, 8 x 25

Lat pulldowns:  10 x 50, 10 x 55, 10 x 60

I think it's time to progress to the next level of the progression

I couldn't help laugh on these speculations. Growing up I had a gym teacher who loved this game, I personally hated it. Have an award when I was an athletic kid's forced partner....

Been finding it huge for Community Centers for  Recreation...

Glad you did find a group even though it wasn't exactly what you were looking for. 2 years to wait to have a good time with them sounds well worth the time to enjoy it too!

Have a feeling these type of games people are more excited to be a part of due to the last year!

Yes, indeed.  I've also been wandering further afield on hikes.  Learning how to LIVE in the current circumstances, I guess.

I made my weight goal for July.  Wanted to be at 160, and I was at 159.5!!!   But I am also on the dreaded plateau.

Yesterday was the first day "back to campus" for most people in 18 months.

Some of us worked from our offices once complete lock down was lifted, and some faculty and staff have to be on campus to tend to living things - but they limited their in-person time.  Parents were not allowed to accompany their kids.  No visitors.  We couldn't even do job interviews with a final, campus visit.  Ghost town.

Yesterday ... as student athletes started reporting to campus, it was like a light switch had been thrown.  The prime parking lots were full (I walk from the outer lot ... but mine was 1/3 full).  I had to stop for a moment and process a delightful scene:  a student giving a tour to his parents.  The drinking water was finally turned on (we've had sanitary systems only).  Someone restocked the coffee in the break room (other than me!).

We're not back to normal completely.  Buildings are still accessed by key-cards.  No dining services except for students living on campus.  Some people need to wear masks.  But ... wow.  There is hope for the fall.  (And I got a lot done.)

Weight: Still holding at the 159.5 plateau.

Pull-ups:  Did Pound class

Summer Splash:  Took a rest day because feet were sore.   I'm at 110 km ... so it's not going to be too hard to finish.

Pull-ups:  I did 3 x 8 ring rows, adjusting incline to make them harder.  It gets dicey at a certain angle .... so I started putting at least a pad under my back ... or where the back would be if I slipped.  Talked to my personal trainer, and she showed me how to do band-assisted pull ups!!!  So I did 4 with the stiffest band we offer.  Will start doing those FIRST and then switch to ring rows on Thursday or Friday.

Summer Splash:  114.5 KM

Ok, today we are doing the cha-cha ....

optimist.png

Weight bumped up --- so I'm reminding  myself this is normal.  The trend is still downward over the past year.

I'll do my pull-up workout this morning.

Left knee is bothering me after walking and pickleball this week.  It's usually an indicator that my walking or running shoes are worn out ...... and yes, they definitely are.  Time for some rest and shoe shopping.  No pickleball until it's better.

4698645.jpg

... or Tuesday, whichever comes first.

And .... we are back to requiring masks at work.  Right now ... not so bad, but I'm starting to consider how we are going to conduct face to face classes.  It's already hard to hear me over the computer fans in the lab --- masked is not gonna work.
