Glad to hear things are returning to normal at work. Could you potentially use a microphone and speakers in class, if it's going to be really hard to hear you otherwise?

Possibly.  I have to see what tools we have.  We do have speakers in my teaching labs.

 

Yesterday, I went to the gym and did 2 x 5 assisted pull-ups.  I didn't get as high up as I'd like ... full range will come with practice??

Then, I did lat pull downs 3 x 8 x 65 ... so a little better than the prior workout.

 

Knee is bugging me; so I'm taking it a little easy on the running right now.  

 

Did a lot of gardening and started practicing kata again.  Thank all the powers for the internet because I have to keep looking up details that I've forgotten!!

Woohoo on the pullups. Yes, with practice full range will come.  A couple of things that might help; Do a pull up prep before you start; while holding on the bar, lower your shoulders and pull yourself up just an inch. Also try doing a few 1/4 pull ups. when you are at the top of the bar just lower yourself a little, and then pull yourself up. That will help your body practice that position. One thing (besides strength) that hindered me was that I was shrugging my shoulders. When you do that, once you get to a spot on the bar, your body sort of runs out of room.

Reading through one of my colleagues lessons from last spring, I was very pleasantly surprised.   For an exercise, she included something she appreciated about each of her fellow computer science professors .... and she labeled me "Code Maven" !!!! 

 

Wow.  Just .... wow.  I feel all glowy.

Well, we are all scratching our heads about how to mic up for the coming school year ..... shades of lightbulb jokes here.  

 

Weight: ??

 

Pull-ups:  My trainer had me TRY 3 x 5 assisted with the big blue band.  I got the first one ... and the rest were partials.  But, I'm working on it.

 

Distance: 12x.x km right now.  Heat wave ......  geez ....

Weight: 159 ... minor fluxuations

 

Pull-ups:  YOGA .... NF Water series A.   Arms are sore from yesterday.  Did one of my kata as practice.  Will watch a class at the local TKD studio ... hopefully on August 24th.  We'll see what I think of the school.  

 

Distance: 127.3km ... some walking despite the heat advisory.  Looks like today might be the worst of it for a while.  I gave a tour to a student who is from Mississippi ... he thought it was a lovely day.  🤯

It's been a week of rebellion .... and not the good kind!!  I should take pictures of my sins so I can be absolved and make you all drool at the same time.  

 

I fell into the "I worked out hard enough to earn this ...." mind set.

At Rotary, I ate the dessert.  It was not worth it.

I had ice cream at lunch on Thursday.

Since our favorite wine bar/pizza place was unexpectedly closed on Friday .... we went to Pizza Ranch.  Yes, there was brownie pizza and ice cream after the chef salad.

Saturday, I did better.  Got to the gym and did arms, although I didn't want to go climbing up on the rig in an empty gym ... so I just stuck to free weights and the lat pull-down machine.  

 

Today:  cardio, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats .....

Weight: 158.3 .... so back down to the low point and trying to drive it lower.  

Pull-ups:  we worked back and shoulder muscles with my trainer yesterday.  Then Pickleball last night.  Today .... probably yoga between meetings.  I think I will break out my FitDeck again and bring cards to work.    We're going to be face to face in the classroom at the beginning of term, masked. 

Run Across America:  I'm at 131.x km for cumulative distance and need to devote a few days to measured cardio (vs. just plain fun Pickleball!!)

 

I'm pleased with progress .... just need to keep going.

Weight: 157.8 ... the lowest I have been in 6 years!!!

Pull ups:  Have not done anything since Tuesday's personal training session.  Been gardening and playing Pickleball, however.

Run Across America:  138.4 km.  Should be easy to pull this off by Labor Day.

Final day!!!

 

Weight 157.5 .... pretty much where I wanted to be at the end of August.  

 

Pull ups .... this is a work in progress.  I am increasing the weights on the lat pull down machine.  I was not able to go to the gym for a few days while waiting on a COVID test.  It was negative, but I did get a cold from one or more students.  Little plague-bearers!!!

 

Run Across America.  Finished 150 KM.
