I am less tired, so there is that benefit. I had a telehealth appointment with my therapist on Tuesday, and expressed some of my simmering frustration that I have been under what feels like permanent high stress for over a year, with no send in sight, and with all the unpleasant anxiety consequences that leads to. She suggested that I need to keep an open mind to the possibility of physiological factors not necessarily causing the anxiety, but making it worse. Since I was seeing a doctor for my own regular wellness check the same day, I asked about this, and she mentioned that a lot of people with fair skin, who live as far north as we do, use sunscreen a lot, and don't go out for hours every day, often end up with a Vitamin D deficiency. Lack of Vitamin D can, among other things, make anxiety and depression worse, and it also apparently weakens the immune system. In order to get enough Vitamin D from sunlight I'd have to radiate myself with it to the point it becomes a different kind of health risk, so she recommended just a supplement instead. So I picked one up on the way home, and started taking it with my dinner on Tuesday evening. I'm going to take notes and see if this helps. 8 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. What is failure? I have this sinking feeling that brain repair is like weight loss and the saying that you didn't put the weight on overnight, so it'll take as long to lose it. And, like your doc says, it may be an exacerbating factor rather than a cause. 22 hours ago, Scaly Freak said: Lack of Vitamin D can, among other things, make anxiety and depression worse, and it also apparently weakens the immune system. Scaly Freak
Also. I have barbells! 😍 A large part of the credit for this happy reunion goes to @Harriet for inspiring me to brave the unknown and seek out a small non-crowded local gym where mask wearing isn't made into a big deal by the other gym goers. There is a small, not really super-busy, 24-hour access gym a short drive from our house. We went there late in the evening earlier this week and peeked through the windows. From what we can see from the windows, they only have one squat rack, next to one rack for bench press, and one single set of plates between them, but there is also a full cable setup (one of those machines with two cable towers and chin-up bars between the tops of the towers), there are two full racks of real dumbbells, and there's a full set of kettlebells. there is also a deadlift platform in the corner by the squat rack. During our late-evening scouting mission, there were two people in there working out. So yesterday we went in during the day and signed up for the free 7-day trial, and were given our key fob that opens the door at all hours, and last night around 10:30 PM, we went back for a workout. I am very much out of barbell lifting shape, but I managed to get through the first day of the first week of the Greyskull program I've used in the past and really liked, and then I did some accessories, and some cardio on their rowing machine while Husband finished up his workout. Visiting the gym late in the evenings will make sleep a bit challenging, but I will make this work. I will have barbells in my life again! Because I feel great. I have missed the barbells. I very much look forward to the enjoying the anti-anxiety benefits of a properly executed deadlift. 7 4 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. Scaly Freak
It is Sunday, which means it's is time for the latest weekly averages. Despite having the week off from work, there were a couple of days when I had to get up relatively early, first to drop off the Happy Sidekick for her regular wellness check and shots, and once for volunteer training. These early mornings reduced the amount of sleep I had those nights, and as a result my average for the week is 7 hrs and 8 mins of sleep, with a sleep score of 82. 6 Quote The Great Reading Thread of 2023 “I've always believed that failure is non-existent. Still better than it would have been without the sleep efforts, right? I hope there are no early mornings this week.
