Go Beyond - Jedi's Pro Hero Challenge

Recommended Posts

Because I can’t keep a theme series going to save my life, I’m jumping back into the My Hero Academia themes.

I am almost done with the anime that’s in existence thus far, and I’m in the process of reading through the manga. It has yet to lose its magic for me, and I think it’ll be a great theme to inspire me as I do a challenge focused on growth and being better.

Going “Plus Ultra” if I may.

Plus Ultra All Might GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

Last challenge I ended up having to adjust the goals really early in because my ankle gave out again. Unfortunately, since I don’t have any health insurance, I can’t go to the doctor and get it professionally evaluated. But thankfully, my cousin is a doctor of physical therapy and she gave me some simple exercises to do with a resistance band that I’ve been doing to re-strengthen my ankle. And it’s absolutely working!

Because of that, I think I’m going to add back in some gentle exercising. Yoga or something.

For the most part, my eating habits haven’t been completely atrocious. They’re not fantastic this particular week, but I’m slowly doing better about things. I’m actually considering doing calorie tracking… but I always end up hungry. I think I’ll just track what I eat a little more closely and log it in here.

I think my challenge this time will focus on the Pro Heroes of MHA. Last time each goal was tied to a UA student (except my bonus one with All Might). This time it will be the pro heroes.

Ankle Exercises

Name: Toshinori Yagi

Hero Name: All Might

Quirk: One for All (former Wielder)

Pin on The anime gifs box ✨

After quite a few injuries, All Might still tries to push beyond his body’s capabilities and ignore the need to rest and recuperate. Eventually, he’s forced to take a step back.

Similarly, I’ve been forced to take a step back from working out thanks to my bad ankle. It’s been struggling, and I keep reinjuring it. Thanks to some PT exercises I was given, I am finally rehabilitating it properly.

My goal will be to do this daily, a range of 5-7 days per week.

Each day I do my ankle exercises will be (1) point!

Pushups/Situps

Name: Shota Aizawa

Hero Name: Eraserhead

Quirk: Power Erasure

Shouta Aizawa - Album on Imgur

Aizawa, the Pro-Hero teacher who is the mood of every millennial who exists, has a super unique power but one that doesn’t particularly help him in combat. He had to work hard to find a way to make up for his quirk not being optimized for combat, ultimately finding himself a force to be reckoned with both inside and outside UA.

Like Aizawa, I’m working with some slight disadvantages. I have serious anxiety issues, and my meds for said issues make me absolutely exhausted. My bad coping mechanisms also play a part here. But I still need to keep working on upper body and core so I can be prepared to climb when my ankle gets better.

My goal will be to do this daily, a range of 5-7 days per week.

Each day this gets done will be (1) point.

Work Out 1x/week

Name: Enji Todoroki

Hero Name: Endeavor

Quirk: Hellflame

Enji Todoroki Endeavor GIF - Enji Todoroki Endeavor My Hero Academia - Discover & Share GIFs

Endeavor is another force to be reckoned with. His drive is the leading cause of his schisms with his family. While there’s wisdom in being reasonable about things, his drive also brought him to becoming one of the best heroes of his time.

I have access to a couple of different options for working out, from free yoga videos to my mom’s exercise video collection that has seated workouts. I’m going to channel my inner Endeavor to keep moving.

My goal will be to do this once a week.

Each exercise will be (1) point.

Food Logging

Name: Taishiro Toyomitsu

Hero Name: Fat Gum

Quirk: Fat Absorption

Top 30 Fat Gum GIFs | Find the best GIF on Gfycat

Fat Gum is a really unique hero whose quirk revolves around fat storage. Not only is he the perfect shield, he can convert all of his body fat into an energy shot. He has to eat a ton to keep up with it.

Honestly, while that quirk would be pretty cool, I am trying to eat better in general. So I’ll be logging food in here. I will keep an up to date log in my phone notes and just copy it over when I post every day. That way I won’t forget anything.

The goal will be to log all food for every day. But also eat healthy. Basically, I’ll get an extra point for a day where I eat fairly well, but lose a point if I binge or go out to eat for no reason (like I’m doing it because I don’t want to cook)

Each day logged is (1) point. Each day with healthy food logged is (1) point. Each time I binge or eat out of the house is (-1) point.

Drinking Water

Name: Kiego Takami

Hero Name: Hawks

Quirk: Fierce Wings

Hawks Keigo Takami GIF - Hawks Keigo Takami My Hero Academia - Discover & Share GIFs

Hawks is a fairly complex character who has a devil may care attitude and a powerful quirk. He also drinks a lot of coffee, which I feel in my soul.

I need to make sure I drink at least 30oz of water each day. My favorite water bottle currently holds about a liter of water, so if I drink that I’ll have enough water.

My goal will be to do this 6-7 days a week.

Each day I drink all my water is (1) point.

And my point goals are below:

Good - 145

Better - 165

Best - 180

Well there we have it - one pro hero themed challenge!

Go beyond, guys! May the Force Be With You!

I realllly need to watch this anime lol.

I do not miss ankle exercises lol but I am very glad I did them. The wobble board really helped too. My sister is someone who constantly sprains her ankle but she doesn't realize she should be doing exercises for it almost every day. I would even call her a chronic ankle sprainer.

Once you turn an ankle once, the tendons are loose and never quite snap back, so you remain prone to it. (Hi, it's me.) I've found that whoever said that the improved proprioception of barefoot shoes helped, was right. My ankles don't turn when I'm actually barefoot or in thin-soled shoes. They turn a lot when I'm in stiff-soled shoes.

I had a long period of inuring/getting better/reinjuring. Finally, I turned to hiking for rehab: weight-bearing, controlled pace, using every angle and stance to get over uneven ground.

I felt like I could run forever, like I could smell the wind and feel the grass under my feet, and just run forever.

She likes to run around my parents backyard and jump over random things and that's generally how she sprains them. I will tell her about the barefoot shoes, they might help her. I know she said she has to use specific shoes for running now. It really sucks because she's only 19.

Oh my word it's SO GOOD ❤️ It has overtaken all of my former favorites (Blue Exorcist, Bleach, Sword Art Online...) as my new favorite. It does make me feel old because the teachers are all like.. the ultimate milennials. Hawks, Eraserhead, and Present Mic are the prime candidates. The kids are all Gen Z-ers and while I vibe with that (I'm a 1995 baby so I'm on the border) the guy who shows up to teach wearing a sleeping bag is honestly the biggest mood.

Yeah I just don't have health insurance so I can't afford all of the doctor's appointments that would get me to PT, nor the actual PT itself. I used to just turn and strain it a lot, but I sprained it really badly in Feburary and it never really healed. So I'm trying to fix it.

Oh yeah. This is my weaker ankle to begin with, and I sprained it in February and it never really healed. I'm combining PT with some yoga and general living of life to see how that helps to start.

I don't know if those kinds of shoes would do me much good, I also overpronate because my arches are super low.

I was the same way. I had to start buying expensive running shoes in college because I'd get twisted ankles and shin splints because ankle + overpronation is not good.

I can't give shoe advice about medical problems. Can you spend part of the day in the house barefoot without problems? That might get some practice reaction to surface conditions in.

But beyond that, yeah, just do what you're doing, and maybe strap on the sneakers of choice and get to hiking on uneven terrain. Gentle pace, just keep that thing reacting to holding your weight steady at all sorts of angles. The problem honestly may not be the ankle injury per se, but all the supporting muscles that didn't have to do their job while you were healing, and weren't ready when something came along.

Probably- my cousin said something similar. I can walk fine normally in my house if I don't overdo it on the muscles. Hopefully we can get the second car running again so I can go hike this fall

Happy first day of the challenge everyone!

I'm less than excited to announce that on challenge day one I am here with... (drumroll please..........)

A COLD.

Bakugo GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

We love to see it 🙄

But I'll just make sure I eat as well as I can and rest plenty.  It's very mild compared to the one I had in July, so it's just annoying. I'll probably be back to normal in the next couple days or so.  Especially if I keep chugging emergen-c.

Today's goals are to meal prep and to fold laundry. That's pretty much it.

I'm feeling... okay? today?

My cold is definitely still in evidence, but like 90% of it is a snuffly nose. I scheduled myself a hair appointment for Saturday because I'm SO TIRED of being grey and it always gives me a confidence boost. Which is actually really good for my eating habits.

I'm getting my basic workout things in, but not like... much. I'm doing a little but not going overboard because honestly that's the best way I can think of to stay sick >_>

Yesterday's Food Log
1 pouch of goldfish crackers

coffee with ~2tbsp of caramel macchiato creamer

a granola bar

2 pcs of leftover Pizza Hut Stuffed Crust Pizza

Broccoli chicken alfredo (description below)

tea with lemon and honey

For dinner last night, I cut some chicken breasts into smaller flat pieces, then salted and peppered them on both sides. I cooked them on the stove in olive oil. While they were cooking, I boiled a pound of bowtie pasta and threw two bags of frozen steamable veggies into the microwave. Once my pasta was done, I made a roux with butter, minced garlic, flour, and heavy cream. Once that thickened, I threw a little bit of salt, pepper, and some milk in. I added parmesan cheese, then threw in the chicken and broccoli (chopped), then the noodles, and finally a bit of mozzarella cheese.

Y'all. I am SO tired of feeling sick. It's just a cold but even though I'm taking decently good care of it (drinking lots of water and resting when I can and sleeping a lot) my body still has to actually fight off whatever the crap this is and it takes  T I M E. And I'm already tired of it.

Today I'm going to go as light as possible on work. Just do bare minimum and be done. I can rest beyond that other than needing to wash my makeup brushes and dust. I don't have to cook dinner since we still have leftovers.

Yesterday's food log was... iffy.

A square of baked oatmeal with apples, walnuts, and rasins

coffee with ~2tbsp of southernn butter pecan creamer

Some gnocchi with tomatoes, italian sausage, white beans, and cheese

leftover bowtie alfredo from yesterday

Like 8 chocolate chip cookies

a packet of goldfish crackers

So I had my first cold since covid started back in August lol. It felt worse than usual because I don't know how to "cold" anymore. Sounds you are doing all the right things ❤️ Fingers crossed it goes away in time for your appointment.

Any thoughts on what colour you are going for your hair?

I always add veggies in pasta - at least in my alfredo ones!

Yeah I had a REALLY ugly one back in July and it was one where my husband had it first and we had him covid tested just in case... it was negative, but it was still a rough one. This is just general cold. Not my favorite, but it seems to be going away.

My stylist sent me these pictures and I'm IN LOVE

That's how I'm trying to think about it :)

So I did my own hair until January of this year. I did a gorgeous bright red that F R I E D my hair because I used a "for dark hair" hair dye and used a 30 developer on it. My cousin cut 4-5 inches of dead ends off in May. I got another couple inches of hair cut off in July. and I'm getting what should be the last of the worst of it cut off this weekend >_>

But i absolutely looooooove that color on you ❤️❤️ I'm so excited to get this hair color because I haven't had my hair professionally colored since my cousin dyed my hair one year I was in high school.

So I did my own hair until January of this year. I did a gorgeous bright red that F R I E D my hair because I used a "for dark hair" hair dye and used a 30 developer on it. My cousin cut 4-5 inches of dead ends off in May. I got another couple inches of hair cut off in July. and I'm getting what should be the last of the worst of it cut off this weekend >_>

dang lol you did a number on your hair. Good riddance to the bad hair 😅

But i absolutely looooooove that color on you ❤️❤️ I'm so excited to get this hair color because I haven't had my hair professionally colored since my cousin dyed my hair one year I was in high school.

Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised.  The last time I’ve had my hair professionally coloured was in grade 8 when I got red highlights. I used to do my own a bunch in highschool using manic panic. You saw the blue I had 1-2 challenges ago right? Ugh so fun lol this red was some L’Oréal one meant for medium brown hair. I can’t wait for it to fade lol I’m hoping it looks like cotton candy lolllll but that probably won’t happen since my blonde wasn’t very light.

Will you share a pic of your hair when it’s done?

oh you reminded me I need to finish tracking my food.

Yeah - and I'd had such healthy hair before that 😅 But I'm working my way back there.

My cousin is a hair stylist so I have that going for me, but she lives like 4-5 hours away from me so I don't see her as often as I'd like (thus, going to a local friend who is also a stylist). I didn't start actually dying my hair until high school, and didn't keep up with it much until I turned 21ish because I started going grey very early >_> Yay genetics.

Oooooh I hope it does too! I love pastels, my hair is just too dark for them without bleach.

I'll happily show pictures of my hair! I'm going to probably take ALL the pictures.

Yay tracking!

cinnamon sugar toast

coffee with 2.5 tbsp of creamer

gnocchi with beans, veggies, and cheese

That is still helpful though! I don't know anyone that does that. I probably should haha The greys will dye well? :P Thats a plus side.

It turned out beautiful!!! Love the matchy matchy make up.

Haha I concur about yesterday’s food but tasty choices none the less

Thanks! It's making me feel makeup inspired and hair inspired both. And just happier in general.

Yeah... it's like that sometimes xD I was PMSing so tbh my eating wasn't as bad as it's been during PMS previously. I'll take small pieces of progress

Tracking

Week 1: 32

Week 2:

Week 3:

Week 4:

Week 5:

Total: 32

Weight

End of Last Challenge: 276.6lbs(9/3/21)

Start:  277.2lbs (9/12/21)

Week 1: 276.6lbs(9/17/21)

Week 2:

Week 3:

Week 4:

Week 5:

End:

Not a bad week, particularly considering PMS and PMS boating! I even got a workout in, which gives me LIFE.

Today I've got some work to do since I'll be out on Friday, plus I have to meal prep, but otherwise I'm going to chill.

Yesterday's Food Log

coffee with ~2.5tbsp of creamer

small island impact smoothie from smoothie king

gnocchi and beans

chuckwagon (ground meat formed into a patty and then breaded and fried...)

mac and cheese

fried apples

2 small rolls

a small serving of tater tots

3 cookies

a glass of milk

A little rougher than I would have wanted but also not the worst. I'm slowly getting my eating under some semblance of control I think.
