Time for another challenge!

I'm on vacation for week 1 and another vacation in October.  Decided this would be a good challenge to just keep on working on the habits I've acquired.

During vacation:

The only eating skill I will focus on is to eat slowly, and to really enjoy the food and the moment

Mr.Incredible has the week off. Part of the week we are in San Diego, and part we are at home. So , maybe I will get workouts in. Or maybe not. Whichever is fine

The rest of the time

Fitness

Continue with the running app on NF.

Pick a arm workout to do and do it

Food:

Practice the eating skills

Especially focusing on  delaying before unplanning snacks, plating a well balanced meal, and eating slow. It might be nice to track , but I seem to be horrible at that, so we shall see

Life:

Continue making weekly and daily plans.

Continue Bible reading

fall yard work

I'd really like to spend more time doing creative stuff: weaving , scrapbooking. I'm pondering how to actually make this a habit

Edit to add

@Nymeria reminded me that rings were a good arm workout.Which reminded me that I had been working on L-sit, but paused when the pressing got intense.  So, I think I will resume that. And then maybe do handstand work too. Doing skill work sounds like a good break, and something that works well with me being gone part of each month.

What are you planning to do in San Diego?  My family was planning a mid October mini trip there (for some Sea World, stand up paddle boarding, and beach fun), but it's not going to happen this year with Delta + youngest is too young for vaccine.  I want to live vicariously through someone else's adventures there!

Beach and pool fun, Belmont park , Maritime museum, finding dairy free ice cream and hopefully some good food. We stayed there in Februuary of 2019 (just before the pandemic) and visited Sea World. It was really cool.

Saturday run: I felt like it was a big struggle. One of the runs I started walking before my time ran out. Not sure if it was an off day or just that it was the last of the week workouts. It was a big jump for me this week ; 8 rounds of 2 minutes jogging/ 1 minute rest. Next week is vacation, so no running. Then when I come back,I think I will just repeat this week again before moving up. At least the first day. I may also switch to doing running Monday, Wednesday and Friday, to make sure I can get three workouts in. Now that I'm done with the pressing workout, I think I will just do two days of Tuesday and Thursday, optional Saturday. I do like running on Saturdays, but it makes my day kind of rushed, and I don't want to get going early on Saturday.

Pressing workout Friday: I finished  the final workout of 5 rounds of 1-2-3-4-5  pressing ladders of 25 pounds. When I return home, "I will retest my max reps for 30 pounds.  If I can't get 5, I may just work at that until I can (last test was 4)

Experiment: I really want to do more creative stuff like my scrapbooking, or weaving , or lots of stuff. But I really struggle with it. I'm pondering a crazy idea. Having a goal (maybe I'll make a calendar to mark off the days) of seeing how many days in a row I can do two creative projects for 5 minutes each. Having a goal for two things is the crazy part,  but I've done one, and I just lose interest. What if I made myself switch, would that cause me to be more excited to start it the next day?  Seems like fall is a good time to cozy up and do some crafts.

Love the idea, but isn't that challenging with crafts? They often require at least 5min of setup just to get started for a session....

...but I'm adorable! Ask anyone who doesn't know me...

Just the weaving and scrapbooking.Though when I was organzing my craft cupboard, I had supplies for several projects I'd like to do(beading, clay, and a few random things

The weaving project is super easy to get going on. I can just do a few rows. And scrapbooking is online, so I could easily just do a page.  I mean, yes , I have to sit down and forget out where I am so reality is it might be a little longer than 5 minutes. But even if each takes 5 minutes of set up that's only 20 minutes total

Interesting experiment! I've actually been thinking about this lately. I'm working on this course, and by working on I mean I've been stuck on week 3 for 2 months. There's many reasons for it, but I recently realized that one of them is that I don't feel like listening to the teacher's voice! But I keep thinking that I should finish it before moving on, so I got stuck. It's very silly. :)

Home from my vacation. Hubby had today off, so still sorta in vacation mode. Going to eat at Chick-Fil-A tonight and go see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Had lots of good food. Even found a good ice cream store with non dairy ice cream, and  a place that sold sorbet.  Last night on the way home from the airport, ate at Red Robin with Dash. Apparently, RR has a dedicated fryer for non gluten French fries. So, I had those. I don't really eat fries often, because I figured out that  it does lead to more nasal congestion. I don't have a big reaction, but cumulatively(even once a week) it was making my allergies worse. So, I think the wheat in the fryers was bothering me. Good to know I can get RR fries and not worry about it (I love fries!)

I practiced my skill of eating slowly. A couple of times we ate at places that were right on the beach. I ate slowly, enjoying the food and the views.  A couple of times, I didn't finish all my food because I was full. That's a win for me, I usually eat all my restaurant food. I didn't have to use a ton of willpower, I just ate slowly, and was ready to be done before my plate was done. And then had leftovers the next day!

One of the days we went kayaking. I was actually kind of nervous about it. This was  in the ocean bay.which is calm for an ocean, but it has currents and more boats.. I've only kayaked on lakes. , There was a speed limit for the motor boats,, so they were going super slow, but again it was new to me,, and I 'm not very confident  that I can steer well enough to  get out of the way,I talked to husband, and shared my fears, because that helps me process. Reminded him that I wasn't asking for him to solve the problem, or make my fears go  away, I just needed someone to listen. I did ask him to help me think through what would happen if the kayak tipped over. One of the things people always tell you to do when you worry is to think of how you will handle worst case scenarios. This advice backfires for me. I have this great imagination, that gets totally carried away, and I can think of all sorts of ways things can go wrong. Asking my husband  to help me work through it, helps me think it through, but also reins in my overactive imagination to deal with a bit more reality based situations.

We were going to rent two kayaks(which was why I was nervous) But the guy at the rental shack said it was kind of windy, and since we were new to kayaking, he recommended we take the double kayak. Which made me feel better. Still a bit nervous. for reasons I said above. Mostly, I was able to relax and have fun. We saw a sea lion, and hung out and watch him a bit. I also gained more confidence in steering the kayaks. They are really light, and it is fairly easy to get it to turn (unlike canoes) It's one of those things were the more I do it, the more confident I get.

Today:

Wanted to get my run in, as it is supposed to be super rainy tomorrow. It looked like it might rain today, so I wore shorts.  On a runner's forum, they recommended that, as it gives less clothes to get wet and ugh feeling. Also wore my heavier hiking socks, hoping they would keep my feet semi dry.Thankfully, I did not get to test any of it out, as it only sprinkled.I was sort of cold starting out (it was under 60 and yesterday I was in 80 degree weather) but I was fine once I got going. I repeated last week's workout of 8 rounds of 2 minutes run, and 1 minute rest. I was able to complete it. Next week, I think I will level up to week 7 and see how that goes. 2:30 run/1 minutes rest x 8 I think, .

Yeah, me too. What worked better is the advice to trust that I innately have the ability to cope with whatever comes up.

I'm glad it turned out nicely despite the nerves. Sea lion spotting and chill, yay!

This is a perfectly legit and sensible thing to wonder about. It's also a thing people practice, both on land and in pools because it's an important kayaking skill. Might be worth looking into.

Sounds like you had a nice vacation. And yay for sea lions!
