Silmarilliane's Twenty-first Challenge

Oh hai there, how are you? I am very pleased that this got saved as a draft from yesterday!

 

My last challenge was named incorrectly thanks to me not knowing how to find my historical info (oops) so correcting this to 21st. I successfully completed my last challenge with 85% and levelled up, woop!

 

Main goals as ever: reduce body fat % and get stronger (should probably actually check my current bf%). I would also LOVE to be under 12 stone by the end of the challenge, currently 12.5.

 

Existing good habits:

  • Run before work (M-F) up a nearby hill: 0.7m total with ~50ft incline
    • I've been switching to a short walk pre-hill which I'd like to not do
  • Pilates before work (M-F) the Hundred with straight legs ribcage closure every 20 beats
    • I'm happy keeping this as is
  • Weight training, 3x10reps of each unless stated:
    • Monday PUSH: Bench press, Military press, push-ups (elbows in, on knees)
    • Wednesday PULL: Gym ring pull up angled with bent knees, 10x Negative chin-ups, Barbell rows
    • Thursday LEGS: Squat, Lunge, Romanian Deadlift
  • Pilates class most Monday evenings
  • Walking:
    • Office days: to the station and over the river at the other end (~2mile total)
    • WfH days: 2 miles at lunch or after work
    • Sat/Sun: 2 miles min
  • Teethbrushing squat:
    • Basically my evening teethbrushing I do a held squat for 2min

 

I have also just got a bicycle, so would like to incorporate this!

 

THE CHALLENGE

 

Exercise:

  • Pre-work run: move to cutting the 'walk' so my final week of the challenge is all run
  • Pre-work pilates hundred - improve form
  • Weight training - carry on carrying on
  • Pilates class OR 1hr online makeup class during the week
  • Evening squat: move to squatting lower and/or holding for longer
  • Walk to the station and over the river every office working day (2 miles)
  • Walk 2 miles every WfH lunchtime/after work
  • Walk 2 miles every Saturday and Sunday
  • Cycle at least once a week (any distance!)

 

Foods:

Continue on mfp tracking 1600 calories a day. From today up to 28th November I currently have the following things which are likely to scupper/lead to overeating:

  • 24th Oct: Niece's birthday party, usually full of buffet food, cakes and biscuits (this will be tough)
  • 31st Oct: Boardgaming at a friends, which usually involves takeaway - might be doable
  • 6-7th Nov: I might be going away for the weekend, but as yet undecided so we shall see
  • 10th Nov: Theme Park day - I'm hoping I can make a packed lunch and not buy snacks

I think that's it. And I think all of these are pretty much manageable, except this Sunday where all the sugar.

 

POINTS AND SCORING

 

  • Complete all morning and evening workouts in a week (run, hundred, squat) = 100pts
  • Complete all weight sessions and pilates in a week = 100pts
  • Complete 2 miles of walking every day = 100pts for the week
    • Any of the above missed get NIL PWA, but I can make them back for 75pts instead
  • Cycle once a week = 50pts

Max exercise points = 2100pts

 

  • Under calories every day for a week = 100 points

  • Under calories six days out of the week = 75 points

  • Under calories five days out of the week = 50 points

  • Day over 1600 but under 1700 = minus 5 points

  • Day over 1600 but stayed relatively health = minus 10 points

  • Day over 1600 and splurged = minus 25 points
  • Two weeks under cals in a row = 50 bonus pts
  • All six weeks under = 50 extra bonus pts

Max food points = 900pts

 

Total possible points = 3000pts

Thanks - I think (hope) that counting calories on Sunday will mean I don't just sit and eat crisps until the buffet foods come out....

Wow, where did the week go? I've been crazy busy with work but have managed to keep on top of the challenge though it now being drinking season (+ work stress) is potentially going to scupper future weeks.

 

I've still got to ride my bike today and also do two miles of walking, plus it's niece's birthday party day which I'm still hopeful about not overeating.

Oh I still need to catch up on my last weights too bcuz after work plans - need to get better at doing those on the right days.

 

Yesterday I'm not convinced I did two miles of walking but I did a three hour Solo Charleston workshop so I don't think I'll dock myself points for that. I still walked to the station on the way, I just didn't on the way back because it was late and recent UK vibe has me in various states of anxiety about being murdered on the way home, so I got the bus.

 

Will do a full round up tomorrow anyhoo - wish me luck for an arvo of not eating all the halloumi and cake!

Sing sing sing came up on my friends Pandora when I was over for dinner and we spontaneously did the Charleston for MAYBE two minutes and both of us were out of breath and collapsed on the couch.

That sounds amazing and exhausting. I'm sure it's worth 2 miles of walking, iif not more!

Thanks! I actually managed to track, and got some halloumi a piece of birthday cake fitted in! I brought home four small brownie bites to have over the next few days. I think if I brought home half a cake I'd have to portion it up and put it in the freezer...

Wow, so I had all these open yesterday to update and work was... work... and I had a quartet (trio) rehearsal straight after so couldn't catch up. So yeah, the birthday party was successful even though I drank a lot of diet coke and crocheted to stop myself eating all the crisps and beige buffet goodness.

 

So my week 1 (week zero?) roundup, mixing up the emojis bcuz why not:

All morning/evening workouts 🔥 =100pts

Weights and Pilates 🔥 = 100pts

Two miles walking a day 🔥 = 100pts

Cycle 🔥 = 50pts

Under calories every day 🔥 = 100 points

 

Huzzah to me, full marks for the week = 450pts

It's half term so that means no pilates yester (hence the singing rehearsal instead) so I squeezed in a 20min video before work yesterday and am WfH Thursday/Friday so need to remember to do then too.

Right? Crochet is an awesome coping strategy! That reminds me, I used to cross-stitch in the evenings to avoid snacking, I should start that up again...

Ah yeah, it's more because I try to avoid all the chemicals! But definitely better than me eating bowls and bowls of crisps :D

I have got sooo behind on here because work is a bit of a mare right now. ANYHOO

 

I squeezed in 10mins pilates before work yesterday and did half an hour this morning, because darned if I was going to lose points on that! However I only ended up with a 20min break in my day yester so I did a mile instead of two. Hoping to make that back this evening as I managed a 2mile powerwalk today - again, darned if I was going to miss out on exercise because work! I need to do my final set of weights, and my bike ride/walking at the weekend, but don't see that being a problem.

 

Calories have been ok, though my mood just makes me want to eat all the things at the moment. Send help!

Thanks guys :) I think I need to forgive myself and not have these good habits turn into a chore - going for a walk makes me feel better so it shouldn't be something to stress me out!

 

I did the extra walk yesterday and walked up to the shops today after going for a slightly longer cycle this morning - wow my legs aren't used to that movement! I still need to catch up on a few weights, but I'm going to do some now. Also thinking of switching out the pressups for assisted dips on my gym rings - anyone tried this?!

Week two round up - so I missed the RDLs of my leg workout and am planning on making them back today after bench and the like. I'll include these in the points (75 instead of 0 as I know I'll make this back). Obv I missed the full walking on one day and made it back so that's knocked down a bit, and yesterday I accidentally went over calories as someone had a piece of my pizza (took the cals off) and I had a piece of avocado sushi (forgot to add until after I'd eaten all the rest of my cals!)

Ah well, it didn't go awfully, but still made me aware of how difficult it is to keep up with all this when plans happen.

 

Point scoring:

All morning/evening workouts 🔥 = 100pts

Weights and Pilates 🙊 = 75pts

Two miles walking a day 🙈 = 75pts

Cycle 🔥 = 50pts

Under calories every day 🙉 = 75pts

 

A decent effort for the week = 375pts

 

Total points so far = 825pts

Honestly, it looks like a pretty good week from where I'm standing! All your morning and evening workouts, plus cycling! That's fantastic! It's worth a pat on the back that you didn't let yourself get totally derailed when plans changed. It may not have been a perfect week, but you reflected on the things you missed and are more prepared for them next time.
