Last challenge (which I failed horribly) I did two things which led me to the goals I have for this challenge. I climbed the Zugspitze (see photo above), which is the highest mountain in Germany. And that made me realize just how bad my cardio is, compared to what it has been. So I need to change that!

The other thing I did was strike up a conversation with @Cheetah in the Guildhall about food. And more specifically about eating the same food over and over again. The exact quote is

I would save so so much time if I just had the same thing more often though. You know what, I might make that the theme for my next challenge. It's perfect. Can get the kids involved as well. We all get to choose one dish each and then we rotate just those for a month or something. It would make shopping so much easier too.

So. Two goals.

1. Go running at least twice every week

2. Me and my boys choose one dish each and I cook them all at least four times each. My wife can join too if she wants.

Hopefully goal 2 will free up some time that I can spend on goal 1 instead. But I'm still pretty sure it's mostly going to have to be really early in the morning, or late in the evening. Hence the "in the dark" part of the challenge title.

Side-quests:

A. Cook or bake something with pumpkin (or, more likely, butternut squash)

B. Go swimming outdoors once in October and once in November

And, finally, a song to get pumped for some running!

I've always liked this one for sheer energy buildup. It's all in the bass. :)

I went running 🏃 So one of two completed for the week. The plan is to run again Friday morning.

Sounds like a good plan!

It was a good plan - until we decided we need to leave the house before 9 am to take the kids to an amusement park and spend a night at a hotel after.

So now I need to also help get the kids ready, pack the stuff I need. Get some snacks for the 5 hour drive for the entire family, etc.

New plan is Saturday evening :D

Make a plan ✔️

Stick to the plan ✔️

I was always a scrawny kid, but with decent cardiovascular capacity. So my leg muscles would always give up way before my breath.

I'm still not muscular in any way, but now it's my joints that give up before anything else 👴 My ankles hurt and my knee hurts. So I need to learn to take it even more slow I think. Walk more until my joints are more used to the impacts of running.

Hope the amusement park was fun.  Following!

It was fun, but cold! Should have brought gloves! 🥶

They had great seasonal decorations

In the evening they had actors walking around the park with zombie makeup, scary clown makeup etc. It was great :D

I've talked to the family, and we have a list of meals to put in our dinner rotation

Oldest son: Pasta with tomato sauce. I'll probably add some beans to the sauce for some extra protein, or maybe use chickpea pasta. I'll also add some salad to my plate

Youngest son: Pasta with green pea pesto.

Wife: Lentil soup.

Me: Chili. Specifically this chili https://cookieandkate.com/vegetarian-chili-recipe/

We do a spagbol where we sub out the minced meat for minced chicken. Makes for a pretty good dinner and add's some protein for fewer KCAL. Just a tip!

Edit: might also be ground meat vs ground chicken, not sure about the translation here

... a little odd in the head ...

> Yes, it is the same as minced beef. American versus English english.

No one is sure about the translation 😆

I know what you mean though. We only have the 100% meat kind, and you can't choose how fine/course you want it.

I love the cooking rotation idea. 🙂

Me too! So why can't I get started with it?!

I think dinner tomorrow evening will be the first one from the list. Probably making the chili. The pinto beans are at least soaking overnight right now. Will boil them tomorrow.

Impressive climb! I definitely wouldn’t have been able to climb it with my levels of cardio. 😂

Speaking of cardio... One of my goals was to go out for a run twice a week. And I did great the first week. This week I've been having a cold, and I've been using that as an excuse not to go running. But I did go for a walk yesterday and today. I'm going to say that's good enough.
