Nymeria dabbles with arts and crafts

Yeah, I'll still be climbing and talking about climbing, but there aren't any climbing goals that I wasn't already going to be doing.  Instead, the focus will be on cool art and crafts projects.

Recently, I bought a 3d resin printer!  It's so incredibly cool!  I'm still a noob, but I'd be totally happy to answer anyone's questions about 3d printing.   So far, I've printed things using other people's 3d files.  Now, I want to learn to create my own 3d models.  I also have to paint all of the family D&D campaign minis.  And I have crochet projects.  And I have a piano to practice and songs to record......

So.....

1. 10 Blender tutorials per week.  It's probably the best free 3d modeling program out there, and I need to learn how to make better use of it.  In the short term, I want to design my own chess set and Catan pieces.  Eventually, I want to be able to use it in conjunction with MakeHuman to create my own character minis.

2. Finish painting the family D&D minis.  We custom printed 4 minis using Heroforge to customize our characters.  I've painted my husband's character, and I posted the pics in my last thread.  Now, I have 3 left.  I will also post pictures of the finished pieces.

3. Do some sort of crochet project.  I haven't yet decided what...  When I figure it out, I'll post pics here.

4.  Record and post a video of Chopin Nocturne #8.  I need the added pressure of a deadline to try to clean up the piece.  Also, I need to stop feeling like nothing is ever good enough to post.

5. (In some ways, this is the most important).  Stop debating and arguing with people on Internet forums.  It's a huge time waster, and it does nothing for my mental health.  I will completely avoid a couple problematic forums, and instead use that time more productively.

For the piano goal, this is the beast I have to slay by the end of the challenge.  Right now, this run is a sloppy mess.  Frequently, I know it's coming, tense up, and play it even worse.   Ugh.

Omg, lol!

This is crazy -heh.

Piano (under bed and has been since the 2013 challenge, woops)

3D printer gifted to me 3 Christmas' ago from my one player, so we could craft D&D stuff - sub-loaned to nephew who is doing all the printing for me because I had no brain to learn new stuff.

Crochet projects - I JUST emailed my sister saying I wanted her to teach me so I could make dragon gloves.

I've always wanted to paint my minis but I don't have the skill, eye, or hand for it lol.

I do have a side creative gig I want to get going, but I am debating on the effort vs interest... but you definitely have me hyped to try!!

Here to watch all the creative artsy goodness.

I can't wait to see what you crochet, you always do such fun things.

I might actually be boring and do a blanket this time. ;)

That's no small beast to slay! I'm sure that with enough practice, you can make it smoother though :).

I hope so.  It's so difficult, and it's way too tempting to just use a ton of pedal and try to slop through it rather than devote tons of time into cleaning it up.

Heh.  I've already done those.  Dragon gloves are awesome!

Today was a decent climbing day!  I got a new 5.9 and a new 5.10 that were set, and I at least got beta on another 5.9 that has been giving me issues.  I can also safely say that my kids, who have been climbing much less often and for much less time than I have, are stronger climbers than I am.  Oh well, teens/tweens should be more athletic than their middle aged moms. ;)     Later, we'll all do some swimming and hot tubbing, since it's still 85 degrees here and not depressingly cold.

I'm making Dwarf in the Flask (from FMA) x-mas ornaments on the 3d printer.  This year, the xmas tree is just going to be a nerd tree.  I'll post pictures at some point after the small paint job I'll need to do on them.

I'm also apparently making two blankets.  My daughter said she didn't need another blanket, then felt how soft the jumbo blanket yarn is, and now wants one too.

Mini painting will most likely wait until tomorrow.  My hands are stiff from climbing, so they're not going to be steady enough for detail work.  Also, I stupidly forgot to practice the piano before climbing, so I'll have to make up for that tomorrow as well.

Those are super cool!  I tried to start a pair a while ago, but lost my pattern somewhere.... Maybe I'll have to pick them up again after I finish my current projects.

Great! I always love it when there's new routes around my grade that I can climb on sight :). And I feel you on the teenagers who can climb so much stronger. I'm not quite your age yet, but I'm not even nearly as strong as any of the teenagers in the climbing gym.

Ooooh can't wait to see those ornaments and the tree!!!

I have weather envy.  Wenvy shall we call it? :)

5" of rain over Sunday/Monday and blustery 42 today.  Gah, those initial season changes are big pills to swallow!  Glad you got premo weather!

Some updates:

Monday - 2 Blender tutorials done!    Piano done!    Blanket #1 about halfway done.    No minis painted, since we did an hour of D&D right after dinner and needed to use the minis.

Today - Climbing done!  Piano done!  I will definitely paint minis later today and do another blender tutorial or two.

Re: the nerd tree:

We actually already modeled and painted a FMA Dwarf in the flask.  It's just rather large (maybe 12" diameter) and casually sitting on the shelf in our sitting room. ;)

I also have Daleks to add to the tree.  I didn't model these, but rather downloaded someone's else's 3d file and  just printed them and cleaned them up.

So, I suck and disappeared.  I've just been in a funk, largely from hormone imbalances.  bleh.

Anyway, life and crafting continue.  Here are the family D&D minis in various states of completion.  I also photographed a quarter next to them, just to show how tiny these things are.

Also, since I know a few of you are into Shadowrun, Heroforge has some good shadowrun type customizable models.  Here are my husband's and my shadowrun characters from an old campaign (I so can't wait to paint these!)
