I'm still recovering from getting sick last week, and while I feel better each day, I don't have much bandwidth for a fancy challenge post, so here goes:

  • Cook as much as possible
  • Eat as Intuitively as possible
  • Do KB workouts when possible
  • Walk when possible

Howdy.

Today is rough. Church was good, but coming in to work was difficult. I realized I have depression symptoms flaring. Not surprising now that I've recognized they are happening, given I often feel down after sickness. My theory is that it's my body's way of ensuring I don't get to active before I have fully recovered. I did cook today.

I took water, chopped chicken thighs, chicken bouillon cubes, salt, pepper, and broccoli florets and took them to a boil, then reduced heat to medium low to simmer for 45 minutes. Then I melted a stick of butter and mixed it with a cup of flour and set it aside. Then I admitted my stock pot was too small, and took Little Bit to HEB to get an 8 quart stock pot we've been needing for several years, got back home before the 45 minutes was up, and transferred everything to the bigger pot. When the 45 minutes was up I added the flour-butter mixture in slowly and stirred, then added a cup of half-and-half and stirred. I then added 3 cups of shredded cheddar and stirred. It was very good. We had some pumpernickel Rye with it, which was heaven to dip into the soup.

Sounds like your on the right track. Self-awareness is the first step, then healthy coping mechanisms and self-care (like cooking delicious food) is next.

I've never taken this long to bounce back from being sick before, but then again, I'm 40 now so....

I have experienced this as well, and I completely agree. I think the lingering inflammation causes avoidant or sickness behaviour. It's the cytokines, or something else sciencey.

There's a way to game the system. The forums are currently set to display 25 posts per page in a thread. Look at the number of replies and if it's less than 24 (the initial post isn't counted as a reply) you will be on the first page unless someone posts ahead of you.

Today is a good day. I'm still getting better. I did a warmup and some stretches for movement, that seemed possible and it was.

Cooking was possible. I made a beef stew by shaking beef cut up for stew meat in flour, then cooking it in a skillet in some avocado oil to brown. I added that to my new stock pot along with quartered baby gold potatoes, diced celery, chopped carrots, chopped parsley, chopped thyme, minced garlic, dried chives, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar and paprika (not smoked). In the skillet I browned a chopped onion with a little red wine vinegar, then added that to the stock pot. I deglazed the pan with some beef broth, and added that to the pot, with just enough broth to cover everything. I turned the heat on under the pot to maximum, then when everything was boiling I turned the heat to medium, put the lid on, and let it simmer for an hour. It is amazing.
